    This si the same interview when Letterman , discussing the fact that he had NO women writers on his show, defends that by saying something like,'I thought, "why would women want to write for my little late night show?."' And Tina Fey just says, "Yeah. But we do." Boom. Perfect

      Sreekar Nimbalkar Letterman is the host. The show exists because of him. The guests talk because of him.

    • @Stephensofceea
      @Stephensofceea 5 років тому +4

      Tina Fey, Ellen DeGeneres, Kanye West and Tiffany Hadish come on the show and tell their most intimate stories because and only because it's hosted by Letterman. They won't come and share these stories to a random guy from the street.

    • @williamhealy1154
      @williamhealy1154 4 роки тому +2

      @@Stephensofceea Exactly!! And it's not just because he's famous. It's because he's whip smart. These people know that their conversation with Dave will be fun, funny, interesting, weird, etc. Letterman was never really a "stand up" comic even though he did that in his early days. He's really a "broadcaster" in the truest sense of the word. I remember Julia Roberts teasing Dave on her last appearance about how "mean" he could be to some guests. Dave accepted the criticism and asked her why she thought he did that. Her answer was priceless: "I think stupid people annoy you!" A dumb actor or actress who appeared on his show to promote a movie but made no effort to actually "entertain" on his show was toast. Tom Hanks once said that he "prepared" for an appearance on Letterman for weeks. He knew the show was an entertainment show and his job was to be entertaining. Apparently no one worked harder preparing for an appearance was Steve Martin. Hanks and Martin were so famous that they could have gotten away with "coasting." But they NEVER EVER did on Letterman. Because they knew with Letterman there was a real chance to create something special. If you watch Carson and Letterman, the best guests did ALL the talking. Watch Gary Shandling on Carson. As soon as he sat down on the couch, he launched into material. Watch Joan Rivers on Letterman. As soon as she sat down, she launched into material. She came to play so to speak. She was close to 80 on one of her last appearances and you could tell she wasn't winging it. All of these guests knew Letterman came to play as well and they would be even better with him nudging them along.

    I don't understand this one. Can somebody explain?

    • @greg_216
      @greg_216 3 роки тому +5

      "I'm not as dumb as I look" is a common expression for when someone is underestimating your knowledge or intelligence. It's both self-deprecating (joking that you look stupid) and self-affirming (saying you know you're not actually stupid), so it works as its own little joke. It's a more friendly, likable response than just saying, "I know that. I'm not stupid."
      Tina added on to the usual expression with, "How could you be?", implying that Dave could not possibly look any dumber. It's funny because of her excellent timing and the playful, childish nature of the insult. The fact that it took Dave a second to get the joke and that he found it funny made it even better.

      He cheated on his wife with female employees. Consensual adult extramarital affairs. Should he have been fired ? It depends, probably . Was he accused of sexual misconduct or worse ? Never. Has he been the classic case of a man in a position of enormous power who benfited from it in a sloppy yet legal way ? Very much so, i think. Not anibody can be as pure and innocent as lil' Donny T.
