This cover is actually what made me take a look at Opeth around 5 years ago. 5 years later, and I own all 13 of their albums. Back to rainbow, this is probably one of my favorite song of theirs, seriously under appreciated.
Hearing from mike that he can't sing is just absurd for me, he's got one of the most beautiful voices in the history of music and he sung an amazing cover of an awesome song even if you can definitely tell that he's feeling sad the whole time he performed, and I'm so sad for him as well. I guess that he's just not very asure with himself, and that's a very common behaviour among artists who put all of their passion and love for their works, that is a sign that shows actually how honest he is and the fact that he can alaways improve with the personal growth of his music.
1) You've gotta have the balls to cover THIS song by Rainbow live. 2) You've gotta have the balls to cover THIS song with Dio on vocals live. Could as well have attempted to do Heaven and hell or some like that. 3) You've got to be Opeth to pull it off. Fucking amazing. These 10 minutes of talk and song show that Dio meant more to Mike/Opeth than he probably ever meant to many of his bandmates. Anthrax did a great thing with In the end as well.
I wish if Mikael was gonna write songs influenced by 60s and 70s rock, he would write something more like this. Damn, this song was great. So powerful and heavy and sad, which I feel lacks from Opeth’s music after Watershed.
@@f4lc0n15 Yeah, I just wanted to throw it in anyway (Burden deserves to be mentioned as much as possible). That said, throw All Things Will Pass on there too...

"I can't actually sing", proceeds to sing one of the most beautiful covers of this song.
Akesson is so underrated, he's phenomenal here
@@akerfeldt4068 His last solo is soul-wrenching.
It’s actually the first time I see Mikael performing without a guitar. A beautiful song, honestly makes me cry

Backing vocals from Per are incredible
What's more, I believe this was Per's last or second to last show with Opeth.
Dio must be proud of you,Mikael!

I’m not crying, YOU’RE crying 😭
Mikael Akerfeldt is amazing, and this heartfelt tribute to Dio is absolutely incredible. So nice to hear his kind words about the legend.
I am yet to know such a beautiful voice as Mikael's!
This is going on repeat
This is one of my greatest memories
beautiful solo! Great magic cover!
Thanks for this gem.
Thank you so much for this, I am a huge Dio fan and Opeth fan, I couldn't find this anywhere, thanks for uploading.
Pure MAGIC!
Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
weird the rain droplets outside of my house stopped
Majestic!!!!
I love Mikael 🥺
We love badminton here 🥺
I'd be the first one in line to buy it if they would only do a proper studio cover of it.
Mikael has no idea what to do with his hands tho!! Lol
You should see footage from his time in Bloodbath lol, it's hilarious
Yeah he’s usually playing guitar while singing lol

Lovelorn Crime, Burden, Faith In Others? I actually think hes doing a pretty good job with the epic, melancholic, prog rock.
@@M4EOzzy Burden is from Watershed

You can say whatever you want about Pale Communion or Sorceress, Heritage and In Cauda Venenum are masterpieces
@@dysthymiabearer I actually think Pale Communion is excellent. Sorceress just doesn't sit with me though
what kind of guitar tuning is that UPGRADED
Asmongold can fucking sing
