Beautiful build there! I LOVE my G8. Pontiac was GM's Dodge, and went away too soon. Fun fact: The window switches (and things like the radio/AC switches being on the wrong side) are fun reminders of the RHD version. Bonus Fun Fact: Because the Holden Commodore was used as a police vehicle in AUS, there's a blackout mode where you can kill every light on the dash and radio except for the speedometer for nighttime patrolling
Mine too, although mines the base model omega, lovely ex cop car, but yeah not the best parental decision considering how ive already done some questionable driving
I love my G8 GT, it’s a beautiful car, the fun part of owning one is that not many people know them, I went to a car show recently, I was the only G8 there.
I bought my Pontiac G8 GT new in 2009. After turning 75,000 miles in 2019 I had the L76 V8 and suspension totally rebuilt. I removed the DOD fuel management system and added a high duration cam and a 2.3 liter Magnuson Supercharger, long tube headers with three inch dual exhaust. It has a double fuel pump and Injector Dynamics 1050 fuel injectors. It has a Mighty Mouse oil catch can to keep any PCV oil from clogging the cooling brick in the supercharger. It puts down 585 horsepower with 93 Octane and 6 pounds of boost and 670 horsepower running E85 with 2% methanol and 12 pounds of boost. Torque is 550 and 620 ft. lbs. respectively. The Pedders suspension make over helps keep it on the road. The Pontiac G8 and Chevy SS were the last American sports sedans for under $50K. This car will hang with just about anything if you are willing to do your part. Don't you just love the smell of ethanol!😁💥💨🚔 Thanks for that great G8 video! I'm glad to hear your friend is in better health and building engines!
Heck yes! I love mine as well and comments on the daily “What is that?” Just a grocery getter, thanks for revisiting this car loved the first video as well. This gives me ambition to keep modifying mine as well. Thank you!

Ive got the GXP and i just rolled over on 12k miles!!! Nothing fancy on it. Intake, headers, exhaust, tune. Thats it. Loved these cars from the moment I watched my first V8 Supercar Race!!!
As my dad had the 2009 g8 gxp in black with chrome rims and a six speed I know just how amazing these cars are. The difference between the gt and the gxp is the engine. The gt had the 6.0 and the gxp had the 6.2. It was an absolute blast
Bought my G8 GT brand new in 2008 with four miles on the ODO and still use it as a daily driver. It still had plastic on it and the fuses weren't even installed when I looked at it. It literally had just rolled off the truck when I bought it. I like the fact that it's rare car and there aren't many of them on the street. Even at almost 12 years old I still get compliments on it regularly. I have two complaints. The paint is cheap and thin and chips easily. The other is the design for the control arms in the front is terrible as I've had to replace them a couple times. Other than that, it's a fun car to drive and I love it. I'm glad I chose it over the other options I was considering at the time.
The G8s were built in Australia in the Holden Factory, they just put Pontiac Badges on instead of Holden, the controls in the middle were for ease of production, so you didn’t have to move driver controls from one side or the other. There’s a great video on the production of the VE Commodore made by Holden, it explains all that, you even see a few G8s on the production line. That said, I love my G8 GT, I bought it back in February, just before COVID locked everything down, she just has a CAI and Cat backs for now, more mods will come next year, it’s a fun car, and like Farris Beuler said “If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up”.

Love my 2009 G8 GT! Had it since new, and has been stock ever since. But I’ve got long tube headers and an intake ready to go on possibly this weekend. These are great cars. The GTs are 361hp and could be had for under $30,000. The V8 wasn’t much more money than the V6 base model. The GXP was 415hp with an optional six speed manual. With the extra cost of the GXP version and gas guzzler tax they came in around $40,000. Only 1,829 GXPs were built.

I'm a proud owner of a 2009 GXP stock. Rarely do I drive the car, yet when I do it is an enjoyable ride. I can only imagine for now how the ride must feel with double the power.

I just bought a g8 gt as a present for myself after my g6 gt went its separate way. I look forward to driving everytime I hop in. I had wanted one for so long It's nice to own one. Finally.
I've had my base model for just over a year and I still love the car to this day. It's been through the ringer before me so there are things that needed fixing and a dealership destroyed my engine. But after a hard battle they replaced the motor and gave it a warranty sitting at 180k on the odo. Sadly my electrical side is starting to have issues because of said dealer but I will hold onto my G8 as long as it lives and breaths oil. I agree that if the G8 wasn't short lived through Pontiac that it very well could have been one of the best cars through the 2010s. The Chevy SS in 2014 was in GM's eyes, a call back to the G8 but I believe that the stylistic design difference between the SS and G8 is what makes the car. Yes you can throw any engine in a car and drive it down the road but when you find that one car that you truly enjoy seeing and driving. There is no more comparison. Even years from now when my G8 is no longer with me I will be searching for another. My only hope is that she never truly goes extinct.
@@Sharpshooterr27 the Ve Commodore(G8) and Vf Commodore(ss) are almost identical, in fact i believe that most parts are interchangeable. personally i love the Ve because us Aussies designed it completely(and also because I own one) but the ss isnt a call back its simply the next generation like how the mustangs have different generations. The true commodore king tho is the HSV Gtsr W1. The most powerful australian production car, looks beautiful and has one hell of a pricetag. In my opinion the commodore will never die, theres just to many out there.
Just picked up an 09 GT with 88k mi, FBO and Tune, making solid numbers. I love it, and the SpongeBob toe life is real, a properly tuned 6l80e loves to jump and get going lol
I commented on your SHO video as the inspiration for getting my SHO earlier this year. I constantly look for cars that are unconventional with high horse power. The G8 any SRT 8`s are great sleepers. I'm currently look for a Lincoln MKS 3.0L twin turbo. Nobody knows about how cool these cars are or that they exist.
I'm a big Ford guy first, but those G8s I've always had a affection for. Wish they'd build a Buick version in 2020 and call it a Skylark GSX as a 50th anniversary tribute to the 1970. It would have to be painted yellow with a black hood too!
Sport mode is great, drops down to 2nd in a split second and hauls ass! I own the Holden SSV version. Although typically Holden's dont have the G8 front end, 1500 of them were sold as "Holden SS special edition" which do have the G8 front end and therefore look like the G8 which is awesome because the front grills look way better than just a standard Holden bonnet and bumper.
I have a Pontiac g6 and man what a realizable car. The problem with the g6 are with the wheel bearings and one of the front headlight wires and the power steering motor. It’s like once you have these prepared and fixed then you can use the car. Is it possible to turbo a Pontiac Grand Prix, grand am, or bonneville?
The window controls were in the middle of 3rd generation F-Bodies. This Holden, and any other car from anywhere for that matter should feel blessed to rock a Pontiac Badge!
I love it when someone deserving get what they're after... look at what he survived. he doesn't deserve to be happy? I say he does! ❤️ Go Chris! here's to you! 🎉
Loved this review David!! What I found special about the G8’s is the window switches you were talking about are like the ones in my Pontiac Fiero they are mounted in the center console just behind the shifter in my car. This thing sounds down right nasty!!
I miss Pontiac. DeLorean gave us the GTO and the muscle car wars were in FULL effect after that. This was definitely one of the last hurrahs and you can't help but smile at that.
Being a Australian I own a ve commodore and personally there was so much potential for the g8 and the Chevy ss in terms of the models (omega/evoke, calais/Calais v, hsv versions etc) and body styles not sold in America it really is a case of what could’ve been
Nicholas Rodrigues the cts cost how much more than the g8/ss when new though? The reason I said what I said in my first comment was because there was so much potential for gm to build a complete range of cars (read the standard sedan, a more practical wagon and a sporty coupe utility vehicle that is as fast as the camaro but it can carry tools around, surf boards too the beach or take the dirt bike out too the track) at a price that is more affordable than the cts and around the cost of the camaro. Also The g8/ss platform is the zeta platform which the camaro is based off (much of the camaro’s design was actually done in Australia) while the cts is based of the sigma which doesn’t share any similarities with the zeta so in truth the zeta platform hasn’t been properly utilised in America. Plus then there is the magnitude of high performance versions of the g8/ss body styles available. The vf commodore/gen f hsv (Chevy ss) was available with up to 750hp from the dealership thanks too walkinshaw performance (the company who run hsv) and there is also the w427 (g8) which was the first of the zeta platform cars too be fitted with the ls7 in 2008 or its successor the gtsr w1. Powered but the ls9 it is the ultimate performance variant of the zeta platform with a price tag too match
I owned a 2009 G8 GT i bought with 96k miles. By the end of summer it had 116k miles and i had to sell it unfortunately. I live in Michigan and someone flew from Las Vegas, to Michigan to buy the car and drove it back. And it was a mostly stock G8. I miss it!
I have a g8 that I'm building up as well I want to install a cpr6 manifold from Australia and a K&N air intake but I do want to invest in a turbo charger for it .. I need recommendations on what kind of turbo to get for it , maybe a Lb7 turbo ? Or what is the one in this video ?
Congrats on a million my man? Huge props too you David, I personally drive a g6 with a super charger and it’s at 300 whp, if you want to drive it I’m on the border if penn state, just message me
It was taken away from us because it wasnt a pontiac. It was a holden sedan from australia. It was discontinued there so we could no longer import it. Same as the chevy ss.
They need to bring back Pontiac- not as a trim package for a Chevy but as a brand. Even if they only made cars and no vans/ suvs I think they could make fun economy cars
Been thinking of getting a v6 Pontiac g8 for a daily driver. But I live in Chicago and don't think itll handle well in the snow. Anyone got opinions or know how good/bad it handles. Its rwd so I assume its roughly the same in the snow as any other rwd
I have a Pontiac g8 and it’s great that you made this video. It seems nobody really cares about the g8 anymore. Also specs? I wanna try something like this
Great video but the G8 isn't or wasn't the most forgotten, see u are forgetting the legend, the 04,05,06 Pontiac GTOs! The same Australian auto maker Holden,I believe they make the Chevy SS too! Only major differences are that the G8s came with the awesome LS3!
I own a GTO/Monaro and have driven a few G8/VE Commodores and they are both great cars. It sucks that Holden went the way they did and phased out their RWD platforms. My GTO will probably be the last GM I'll buy as there really isn't anything right now that strikes me like the VX/VZ Monaro and VE/VF Commodore. I WILL say the automatic trans in the G8/Commie took some getting used to as the shifts are REAL quick imo.
I had a g8 and I loved it but at the time premium fuel was over 4 bucks a gallon. The car didn't seem happy unless you were in the pedal. My wife drove the car daily she was crushed when I sold it. She tells me to this day her dream car is another G8 GT
Mr Demuro reviewed a Impala SS (same bodystyle) and that had a 6spd and a LS. I remember him saying it was basicly like a newer style E39 M5. I guess they are somewhat of a sleeper and will be rare and appreciated one day for what they are =)
Here in brazil we had the omega (which is the same car, rebranded), with only an alloytec v6 (260 to 290hp).... Its interior is really well made (compared to any chevrolet of the same era)... We dream of having the g8

Im glad Chris has been feeling better! also glad he took out the Nitrous system and went for all time power!
I'm a big Ford guy first, but those G8s I've always had a affection for. Wish they'd build a Buick version in 2020 and call it a Skylark GSX as a 50th anniversary tribute to the 1970. It would have to be painted yellow with a black hood too!
Hey David, my wife got one of these last October and loves it, hope all is well in Georgia.
I think g8 is one of my favorite cars yet had 3 of them 😂
Thos Pontiac G8/ Chevrolet SS Lumina / HOLDEN COMMODORES just love boost
I didn't even know Chevy made an SS Lumina. Imma have to look that up.
@@Raynedog00 The G8 / VE Commodore was called Lumina SS in the Middle East.
And in South Africa was also called SS Lumina@Raynedog00
My Friend Has A G8, Pretty Loud And Fast, No Turbos Or Supercharger, All Naturally Aspirated
So cool to see you hit 1 million subs David! been around since you were at about 200k subs :)
That G8 is done right. All of it.
I'll always have a special place in my heart for my G8.
The window controls were in the middle of 3rd generation F-Bodies. This Holden, and any other car from anywhere for that matter should feel blessed to rock a Pontiac Badge!
Love the G8, know a lady an hour away from me who's G8 produces about 860hp!
I LOVE YOU CHRIS!!! ❤️❤️❤️
🥰😘
I love it when someone deserving get what they're after... look at what he survived. he doesn't deserve to be happy? I say he does! ❤️ Go Chris! here's to you! 🎉
Loved this review David!! What I found special about the G8’s is the window switches you were talking about are like the ones in my Pontiac Fiero they are mounted in the center console just behind the shifter in my car. This thing sounds down right nasty!!
Damn I knew I should of waited until today to order !
Ordered yesterday, at least I got the first time customer 15%. Excited to try the product out !
I miss Pontiac. DeLorean gave us the GTO and the muscle car wars were in FULL effect after that. This was definitely one of the last hurrahs and you can't help but smile at that.
I have one and wanted to know where he got the trans built. Same place that did the engine or?
I love mine. Mine is fully built with cams heads, Pistons, everything.
Camaro had window controls in the center console if im not mistaken fiero had center controls too
Being a Australian I own a ve commodore and personally there was so much potential for the g8 and the Chevy ss in terms of the models (omega/evoke, calais/Calais v, hsv versions etc) and body styles not sold in America it really is a case of what could’ve been
It's the same chassis they used for the Cadillac CTS and 5th gen Camaro. Its potential has been well explored here.
I miss it!
If you smell ‘cams’ in an LS, you might have a problem that might not be car related.
Explain since I'm a simple man
Paul, there aren’t ‘cams’ in that car. It is a single cam.
@@TheACanning thanks. My knowledge of Chevrolet/GM isn't up to par
I have a g8 that I'm building up as well I want to install a cpr6 manifold from Australia and a K&N air intake but I do want to invest in a turbo charger for it .. I need recommendations on what kind of turbo to get for it , maybe a Lb7 turbo ? Or what is the one in this video ?
actually super pumped to see a great video of one... i miss the hell out of mine and cant wait to be home to drive it again!
Pontiac was taken away to soon but I think its really cool that they are rare and it's so fun and cool to see one in the wild
Great Car! Could you tell us who built the turbo kit? Been looking for one but cannot understand how to run the DP past the steering shaft
Would this be a good first project for a beginner?? If not what car is good for a beginner??
Congrats on a million my man? Huge props too you David, I personally drive a g6 with a super charger and it’s at 300 whp, if you want to drive it I’m on the border if penn state, just message me
I just want to know, where can I get the turbo kit and who can install it as clean as this..
That G8 loves to whistle 👍👍
I love them...i tried to get you to come to Birmingham to review my brother's fully built ls3 6 speed swapped G8 with no luck...but cool car
I’d like to see that! Did he borrow some GXP stuff to get everything to work?
If i remember correctly he had to have G8 GXP cluster and ECU and its a Camaro SS transmission and rear diff i believe.
How about the ls7 swapped g8
ls3 and 6 speed are in the vf commodores/ chev ss over there
I have a Pontiac g8 and it’s great that you made this video. It seems nobody really cares about the g8 anymore. Also specs? I wanna try something like this
One of the few Pontiacs I would consider owning.
What about that foam sprayer that you use? Is that on Patterson car care? Do your soaps use palm oil?
Still trying to get a VE/VF here before they appreciate now that holdens really gone for good.
I love the SIKKY tshirt. I have one of their LS swap kits and it is insanely good quality.
Got any build videos on this? I want to build mine just like it.
I guess they are somewhat of a sleeper and will be rare and appreciated one day for what they are =)
The LS powered Impala SS was auto and FWD
Imo the Pontiac g8 is the dark horse in the car community
Muscle sedan community the charger the ss and the g8
what turbo are you using or recommend using ? and i love that the g8 is rare it will make it worth so much more in future
I still love my 2009 Pontiac g8gt. They should have kept making them
Here in brazil we had the omega (which is the same car, rebranded), with only an alloytec v6 (260 to 290hp).... Its interior is really well made (compared to any chevrolet of the same era)... We dream of having the g8
