I have the PB 1150 pro PS2, it’s odd at lower temps , I get hardly any smoke but I see you had a ton at the higher temp. The PID on the 1600 is the same as the 1150. What gives ?
@@reddog907 give lumberjack or bear mountain pellets my man. It makes a very large difference. Even B&B, if you'd like, I have pellet reviews in here. I used to use Traeger and Pit Boss pellets but it really lacked alot of flavor and smoke.
Just discovered your issue with the 1150 and was hoping to find a follow up video on the situation. Now I see you got the 1600. What made you stick with the brand? Do you still trust them?
They sent me the 1600 as a replacement for the 1150. I haven't had an issue with the 1600 currently. I think what ended up happening was the 1150 was rolled out too quick without much testing in the real world. They created a firmware update with the factory internals because the wiring from the original 1150 controller vs the updated controller for the 1600 (same deal as updated 1150) are different. I think pit boss caught onto that and addressed it. I have no issues with it, it does what I need it to do and has been trouble free so far. I did have to remove the heat deflector on the 1600 to get more stable temps but thats about it.
Great looking ribeyes man!! I haven't used the griddle on my 1600 yet as I still occasionally have a battle getting mine back to temp when I open the lid. There is such a lag in my controller it struggles to recover the temp, even after a replacement controller, 2 grill temp probes, and a combustion fan. I've learned to cope with it just without the extra benefit of the griddle unfortunately. Maybe my griddle will fit my 1100 Pro. 🤔 😂 Nice informative video as always brother!!
It'll fit the 1100 no problem. What pellets are you using? I battled with all those temp drops and swings and you name it with the 1600. I removed the heat shield, the big one that covers the bottom of the barrel. After doing that, my temps have been fantastic! Another thing to do too is before I start it up, I dump out all the ash and put a handful of pellets inside the pot before putting it back in. Gets the smoker up to temp in about 8 minutes or so.
@@ElSenorBbq Ya, I think we talked about it previously. I've used Pit Boss, Bear Mountain, and recently tried Lumberjack. I haven't tried taking that cover out tho, that might be something to try. My biggest problem is after it's gotten to temp and I open it to maybe move things for even cooking, the controller temp sometimes won't drop at all or it lags a really long time before it starts to drop. By this time my inkbird is showing its already starting to come back up. But then the controller temp will not recover back to the set temp and I have to keep priming it to get it back to temp which takes a long time. Pit Boss sent me another 1600 and it was worse than the one I had as I noticed it had an earlier build date than my first one. I'm really starting to lean towards a Lone Star but I haven't been able to talk myself into the shipping cost. Lol
@@markowen7129 LSG is great but incredibly expensive. My issue with the 1600 was when I would lift up the lid, the temps would climb higher and if I closed it, the temps would have a hard time keeping up. So that is when I figured that maybe some of the air coming from the fan is leaking through the auger box so I took off that cover and it's been great since. If you decide to go a different route, look into the recteq 1250. I have it and its INCREDIBLY reliable 100%
I have an 1150 and its on the third, yes third controller and temps seem to work ok. I also toss a welding blanket over the top when temps get cooler and it works like a charm.
@@ElSenorBbq Sorry, didn't see ya wrote back. Lol. Sounds like you had about the same troubles as me with the 1600. I'm gonna try taking that plate out on the next cook and see what happens. And I agree, that Recteq is bad ass too and still possibly considering that as an alternative. I've seen you do cooks on it and it seem to do a very nice job.
I have their offset stick burner and it comes with a griddle already. I don't think I'd add another pellet smoker tbh. The recteq and the 1600 do just fine, I may get rid of one of them though but can't decide which one just yet.
I got all kinds my man. Pellet grills have their space, sure they have less flavor but I think if someone is a newbie, it makes them concentrate more on the meat and trimming. The other thing too is that when I first started with off set smokers, I started with a cheap home depot one and it drove me insane with temp swings that I can understand people not wanting to cater to it all day. I love my offset stick burner through and through and making a new video this week I hope but sometimes it sucks tending to it. My kamado joe is outstanding. Love it 100%. Especially now with the fireboard 2 drive. It just doesn't have the real estate that my other smokers have. So each has their own spot, hell, most competitions are being won with them now. Me personally, I love a strong richness of smoke but my wife doesn't like it as smokey. To each their own, if you are outside bbqing you are a friend of mine! Cheers!

Thanks my man! Hope you have a great day!
