Munich Way of St. James, stage 12 Marktoberdorf - Kempten

On Sunday, October 22nd, 2023, I do something I've never done before on the Way of St. James: I cheat! Since the stage to Kempten today alone would be 32.5 km long and I have to catch the train home again in the evening, I let a dear relative drive me 9 km further to Unterthingau by car. Because of my sin, I promptly end up in hell (actually! :-) )!
I can't take the longer route via Görisried because I can't get away from there by train.
So at least I walk along field paths past happy cows in bright sunshine before I get to the Kempter Forest.
Here I find a small hut that was donated by the Bauer family especially for hikers and have my first snack of the day. Thank you so much - family Bauer!
Further along the way I use my titanium shovel for the first time...
Since the gravel paths are dry, I walk very quickly through the forest using my hiking poles.
According to the Komoot app, the speed is sometimes 7.9 km/h (5 mph)!
I prefer not to stop at the restauration ""Waldgasthaus Tobias"" so as not to arrive in Kempten too late.
This means that by 2 p.m. I am only 6 km away from Kempten.
After the town of ""Motzen"" I start to complain because shortly before Kempten the Way of St. James is on the side of the highway, just on the green belt. Not very pilgrim friendly!
Thank God the last stretch through Kempten is easy to walk again and I get to the main train station safely.
I use the DB Navigator app to book my train ticket back home. In total I went 25.6 km today.
Next year I only have 93.7 km left to Lake Constance in Lindau!
