The meaning for the word Renegade literally supports your theory that they are bandits who left the Bandit faction or maybe multiple factions. I assume it's like Loners but they do the big bad Renegade - having deserted a faith, cause, or religion for a hostile one
In the fan books there was a Cursed or Damned named group which contained renegades from other factions. I think they are supposted to be this renegades too. But of course the main purpose for them in Clear Sky was gameplay ease only.

@@anomalousdugout9557 I know this is a very old comment on a very old video, and you likely won't see this reply, but GSC Game World did have a website where you could buy the games plus merch stuff, including patches for the in-game factions. Each patch came with a short kinda of in-universe description, and the description for the renegade patch highly implied the faction primarily recruited from those who either were kicked out of other factions or greatly disliked the other factions. Plus, the definition of a renegade is a person who deserts and betrays an organization, country, or set of principles. "Are you disgusted by the foppish rituals of the Zone groups? You were once one of them, but were cast out? Well, welcome, bro! Now they will have to answer for their mistakes, since we are a group of a new order! And we have nothing to lose!" - Renegade patch description from the official stalker store. Anyways very good video.
@@irishpotatoes1659 I know about this description however I do not believe it should be taken into consideration because it was not made for the game but for the store.
I always thought they where a loner bandit faction with the early ones being a mix of the nearby factions and the later ones being mercs, freedom, and duty just a bunch a traitors banding together
Judging by the name I've always wondered if they're former military personnel. Essentially the bandit equivalent of military stalkers, i.e. soldiers who abandoned the military to become a bandit like faction. The early game renegades could be new recruits, stalkers specifically, sent into the swamps for the sake of gaining a foothold in exchange for money and gear. "Listen up you lowlifes! You want to make some good money? You want better gear? Then clear out those Clear Sky fuckers from the swamp!" The late game renegades could be the initial rouge solders. The faction's disappearance from clear sky onwards could be explained by the majority of them being killed and military ensuring no more soldiers become renegades. Leading to what's left of the faction assimilating into the other factions.
The true lore goes like that: After events of SoC the bandits split in 3 branches: the sin, the bandits and the renegades, in lost builds the Swamps were full of bandits, now there are renegades, compared to bandits they are poorly equipped and don't have a central HQ like bandits and sin, in warfare mode Anomaly, if you destroy the faction, the remaining renegades will become bandits as affilation, I searched on wiki and Discord.(edit: They are not in CoP so they maybe got destroyed or become bandits, in Anomaly they are seen in great swamps and sometimes but very rare you can find them near Red Forest or Garbage.
I'm 4:25 into the video when writing this; Wasn't it mentioned somewhere that the Renegade faction is a collection of people so awful that they got kicked out of their original factions and no other faction wanted them? Edit: Alright, so that's not canon, but an assumption made by people, good to know! P.S. Really agree with the hypothesis that they're a bandit off-shoot!
Have you been able to find any new info on the Renegades? I have a friend from Ukraine who claims the Russian/Ukrainian Wiki have additional info but I can't confirm
I always considered the renegades to be those who were court martialed by duty or the military, or kicked out of freedom. Along those things, literally renegades who don’t want to be beholden to rules
@@anomalousdugout9557 dont kill any bandits when they Want money give them and do job for bandits. Trader is in. Mine there is a sitting man near compass he is the trader
Well. Truth be told... They are just part of Bandits faction that for the purpose of the Faction war got separate (since player can join bandits later, and fighting with them here would destroy all of player reputation with them and so on, the same goes for bandits in Limansk and other places). That's why all other factions refer to them as just bandits. Option to support the Renegades and re-take the swamp is kind of an exploit since you should have wiped them out.
its also a remnant of earlier draft where GSC wanted different Bandit Faction a lot of idea that was scrapped in SoC survived in Clear Sky since at some point both game where developed at the same time
Well, I'm not sure. The compass was found inside a space anomaly, which was most likely created during the great emission. This means that Forester found the compass after the great emission, and then it was stolen by the Renegades.
I always considered Renegades to be an obstruction in the Great Swamp. I didn't even notice that later game enemies were of the same faction. Personally I would have been comfortable with them being Bandits.
No, there is not. Women are not present physically and they are almost never mentionned, so it is hard to say if there is actually not a single woman in the Zone or if there are but we just don't see any in game. I don't want to enter into too much details about this topic because there is a lot to say and it's quite controversial, but the reasons for the lack of feminine characters are not known, so we can only speculate.
enegades actually an tratior group because when yogawhen was be an leader some one dont like her later bandits are leave him and make an faction olso an a fact renegades have not only bandit tratiour olso they have some tartiours from other factions
a little fun fact about a little mistake you made, you Can actually have them non-hostile if you don't kill many of them at the start of the game, and then join freedom and bandits later, they will become neutral to you, tho, not like there's much point to that, I couldn't take any missions for them, nor find any useful characters
Using a sophisticated trainer or delving into the files cam show the relations. Actor_freedom (or was it named actor_svoboda) is completely neutral to renegades by default, actor_bandit seems to be friendly to renegades by default
If the novels are cannon then it’s possible that after the events of cs they lived on and eventually strider joined them because strider appears in the book under the name renegade of course it’s possible he like however created the renegades just thought it sounded really cool
I don't know man, i think you nailed it here 2:57 and here 4:02. Stalker games never had a good plot(for exemple reason why helicopters crash in CoP is just... stupid). Renegades indeed look like just generic enemies.
Well yeah but as I said, it's up to us to imagine what the reasons behind such things are. To use your example, the crash of the choppers actually makes sense, and here's why. During the time period around the plot of Shadow of Chernobyl, emissions were very rare, so rare in fact that the only one that occurs in the game (which translates to a period of 2 to 3 months) happens at the end. Because of this, the military has been able to establish maps of aerial anomalies that actually allow their choppers to fly relatively safely in the Zone, as demonstrated by all the helis reaching the CNPP at the end. This method of flying was proven to work for them so they did not question it before using it again in their new operation, and the lack of frequent emissions did not allow the right people to learn about the fact that anomalies change during them. As why emissions were not happening, that is most likely the work of the C-Consciousness trying to contain the Zone, and their disapearrance at the end of Shadow of Chernobyl meant much more frequent emissions in Call of Pripyat.
@@anomalousdugout9557 But zone existed for 6 year, it's enough time to notice that anomalies move after emissions. Assault on ChNPP was a few day after emission(that marked and kruglov survive in shadow of chernobyl) and helicopters was able to reach the power plant... Speculate is fun, just some times there isn't much... I don't know, evidence\material\meat on the bones\substance to some questions

@@VaNDaIUKR The Zone existed for 6 years, but the stalker phenomenon only exploded in 2011. Also the emission that happens in Yantar is actually not a true emission, since both Marked One and Kruglov survived and nothing changed in the Zone after that. The single blowout I was refering to is the one that happens at the end during the raid on the CNPP itself. Anyway, I agree that sometimes there is not much information to speculate on, but I think we should take it as an opportunity to imagine ourselves the answers to our questions.
@@anomalousdugout9557 If they were criminals.... then they should pose some more serious threat, not just be a comic relief. Know this tale? "Monolithians caught a bandit. Half way in red forest they shot him. Why? He was making so much noise even such saints would lose their patience."
(GSC) ok so we make it so u can join the bandit but that does not make them the main enemy what sould we do (Random employee) just copy and paste the bandits and give it a different name (GSC) yes
Faction system in clear sky was so bad there was no point to join a faction because if you join a faction you make game for yourself harder because the faction you join is at war with other faction and they will attack you no matter what. if you are duty then freedom attacks you if you a freedom then duty attacks you and same with stalkers and bandits and if you join you can buy some unique gear from their traders but its really not worth it atleast faction system was a little better in call of pripyat but thanks for interesting video.
I think it's true that not joining any faction makes the game way easier, but after completing the game a few times, it makes it different and more interesting to try to join different factions. It gives a new experience and increases replayability, and it also adds a good dose of extra challenge that some players actually like. For example, it is a real achievement to complete the game as a bandit with everyone being hostile to you. So I would say that it really depends on personnal preferences.

In Anomaly, all factions have a "reason" for being, even SIN has a different objective and feel than Monolith. The renegades in Limansk are also a separate faction imho, even in anomaly. If you are a renegade the limansk detachment still will be hostile.
I swear, clear sky is like "S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Wars" or something cause the amount of fighting, killing, warfare, and less scary tone in favor of huge firefights. @@dovahkiin5773 Yes, such a video is planned, but for various reasons it won't come out soon. Maybe I can help find a mod that you would like in the meantime, so what kind of mod would you prefer ? Do you want a mod that only improves the original game, or a mod with a completely new storyline ? Then there are freeplay mods that allow you to create your character in any faction you want. The possibilities are very large, so it's hard to recommend a mod without knowing what kind of experience you are looking for.

@@dovahkiin5773For a complete revamp of the story of Shadow of Chernobyl, I suggest OGSE which adds a ton of stuff like items, maps, quests, everything. If you would like to bring back a lot of cut content, Lost Alpha and OLR are also very good. If you are looking for a sandbox freeplay experience, you should start with Call of Chernobyl, which combines all the maps from the 3 games and lets you choose your faction. I think those are a good starting point, but there are so many more, so it's up to you to decide.

The meaning for the word Renegade literally supports your theory that they are bandits who left the Bandit faction or maybe multiple factions. I assume it's like Loners but they do the big bad
Renegade - having deserted a faith, cause, or religion for a hostile one
In Russian it’s a synonym for criminal, vagabond etc
In the fan books there was a Cursed or Damned named group which contained renegades from other factions. I think they are supposted to be this renegades too. But of course the main purpose for them in Clear Sky was gameplay ease only.
Yes, I guess that's the case.
I didn’t even think much of the renegades before this video. Awesome vid.
Thanks, I tried to make something interesting out of this largely overlooked faction.

In Anomaly Renegades are back, they appear in small numbers around the Great Swamp area
I always thought they are either Clear Sky or Military deserters who didn't join Bandits or Loners
i like the suggestion that some have made that these are basically the rejects of other factions but are too violent or have too much of a bad reputation to be a loner but too proud to be bandits or dislike the leadership of the bandits
Its canon not a sugestion

In CS i could never destroy them, its a bug where they respawn back at the most northern outpost and the north east village
I don't think it's a bug, I think it's intended. All the factions in the game eventually respawn when their base is destroyed, so why not the renegades ?
@@anomalousdugout9557 wait what? its intended? i thought you were supposed to destroy the renegades as a tutorial for the faction war system.
@@perfectlynormalhuman5473 You are supposed to retake control of the swamps, but that does not mean to annihilate them completely. Once you capture enough camps, the machine yard and the southern exit to Cordon, the war is over even if some renegade squads remain.

Thats a pretty good possibility as well.
Renegades and Sins are the actual evil of the Zone. Bandit and Monolith would dream to be like these lads
Very well structured video, as always
Are you conducting your own research when you put a video together or are you also using the game's wiki page?
It seems that you have lots of info that I can't really seem to find anywhere.
Thanks ! I do conduct research and use the wiki as well, mostly to make sure I did not forget anything. All of my info basically comes from the games themselves, unless the video involves a topic which is discusses in other sources such as design documents. So what I usually do is use my general knowledge of the stalker universe to craft the basic ideas, and then I sharpen them by replaying all the sequences that are important to the subject of the video.
For some reason I really like the Renegades. My first STALKER game is Clear Sky and man, was I disappointed that I can't join them. Then I started to play CoC, and kept asking around for adding Renegades as new faction. Good times.

Actually, Renegades supposed to be Stalkers that was kicked out from other factions.
Where is that stated?

Probably, but it is never said or written anywhere in the game.

But hang on a minute. The renegades were around before the great emission otherwise how else would have gotten the compass?
Well, I'm not sure. The compass was found inside a space anomaly, which was most likely created during the great emission. This means that Forester found the compass after the great emission, and then it was stolen by the Renegades.

I have a question, is there a woman in the s.t.a.l.k.e.r. trilogy? Because I've never seen one and I play every game 2-3 times
I've read that there should be women in the trilogy but was cut due to having time constraint

a little fun fact about a little mistake you made, you Can actually have them non-hostile if you don't kill many of them at the start of the game, and then join freedom and bandits later, they will become neutral to you, tho, not like there's much point to that, I couldn't take any missions for them, nor find any useful characters
I had heard it was possible to make them neutral but I was not able to do it while researching this video. Thanks for confirming that it is possible.
You get shot by them in red forest because you had less than 0 filled up relation bars, if you have more than 0 its a walk in the park
As why emissions were not happening, that is most likely the work of the C-Consciousness trying to contain the Zone, and their disapearrance at the end of Shadow of Chernobyl meant much more frequent emissions in Call of Pripyat.
someone here didn't watch the video about why did artifacts change between games

Who would ever stoop so low to join bandits? Even joining monolith (if was possible) would be better.
I think many bandits were already criminals outside of the Zone, so the choice was a no-brainer for them.
@@anomalousdugout9557 If they were criminals.... then they should pose some more serious threat, not just be a comic relief. Know this tale? "Monolithians caught a bandit. Half way in red forest they shot him. Why? He was making so much noise even such saints would lose their patience."

More like the Counter Strike Terrorists!!!!

But Renegades are just crappier bandits; they don't have a base, they don't have a leader, they are very few and they have crappy equipment (Unisg is mostly the same but they have top tier equipment). They are also the only 'bonus' faction that doesn't have a questline centered around them because of how unimportant they are. Even their description is lame.
