@@cool-j7148 No comparison. Both completely different products. One is Passive and other is Active. Anyhow LS60 is better. But if you are looking for Passive alternate I say look at their new R Meta Lineup.
You guys are “for the people,” while most other reviewers on the internet are in the business of promoting boutique brands. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your integrity.
Robinson, you made me do it. Pulled the trigger. F100s +C100 +MP10s. My front speakers have been all Martin logan'd now. If my wife leaves me, I will blame you. :)
I need help! I just auditioned the xt F100's and Polk r700's. After your review, and a few others, I was convinced the f100's were going to be my next speakers. Since they aren't cheap, I wanted to hear them first, before I pulled the trigger. I asked to audition the r700's, as well, so I had something to compare them to. I drove 3 hours to hear these F100's. They set up the Polks first and I listened for almost an hour straight. They sound amazing! They set them up on the Denon x4800h, since that's the receiver I currently have and put it on pure direct mode, no amp. I loved what I was hearing. There was a body and texture that I was missing with my current Klipsch. The bass was impressive. I never felt like a sub was needed. Everything I listened to, in tidal, sounded great. After almost an hour I had them switch to the F100's. I was expecting to be blown away especially with how impressive the r700's sounded. I listened to the exact same tracks in the same order. Immediately I was disappointed. The richness, especially in the vocals, seemed to disappear. I no longer felt the bass. It felt like so much of what I loved about the Polks was missing. It felt like the f100's were further away and if I turned them up they sounded harsh to my ears. I could tell they had a wider and deeper sound stage. I could tell the highs were more detailed. While the Polks were good, the ML's separate the sounds better, almost like every sound was coming from different speakers. They just seemed sterile and almost surgical, with no body. They actually felt brighter than my 15 year old Klipsch Icon WF35's. In fact, they had a very similar sound to my WF35's. Granted, I have never run them without a sub, but I enjoy my WF35's with a sub more than I did the F100's without a sub. What's going on here? Why did it immediately sound like they took the wind out of the sails when they switched to the f100's? Why was I blown away by the R700's and disappointed with the F100's? Am I missing something? I was all set to buy the F100's along with the center and rears, but after listening to them I was disappointed. I listened to them for about an hour and toward the end I forgot what the Polks sounded like and started to feel like maybe they sounded better than I thought. They still felt like I was being shouted at from far away, but I was enjoying them toward the end of my session. I asked to switch back to the Polks and wow... Everything came alive again. This really was a night and day difference. Not subtle in the least. I have never listened to other speakers besides my own. I have no frame of reference for what "high end" is supposed to sound like. This was my first experience ever doing an A/B comparison. While I have a x4800H, I also have an Emotiva XPA5 gen3 amp for my bed layer and a Marantz MM7055 for my ceiling speakers. I wonder if my amp would make the ML's sound better and that's what was missing. Also I thought the Polks looked nicer. The finish of the ML's looked plastic and the front baffle didn't fit properly. It didn't sit flush with the cabinet. I could easily push it flush with my fingers, one corner at a time, but it immediately bounced back. Could it be that these were floor models that got beat up? They did specifically say they took the r700's out of the box, just for my audition because they didn't have any on display. I wonder if something was off and I didn't hear them like they should sound. The highs, clarity and sound stage were impressive, but Bright, and bass and texture were missing. Was I listening to a defective, or underpowered speaker? did I listen to the wrong songs? Maybe the addition of the subs and/amp would help? Or maybe I enjoy a less refined sound more? Lol
There’s lots of personal preference in audio. Many times I’ve gone to audition speakers I wanted based on reviews and have left with something I never even intended to look at. It could be setup too but surely the staff in the audio store would know what they’re doing or would have said if they recommended a more powerful amp or something. It’s often in their interest to sell the more expensive speakers after all.
Listened klipsch rp 8000f ii,KEF Q950, Polk r700. Polk was first choice, second Q950 they are brighter compared to polk and rp-8000f ii was super bright.
Your experience of the F100s is very similar to what I have read in several very positive reviews of them describing the sound before the speakers were broken in. Here is one quote: "They were very harsh in the highs and almost non existent bass out of the box." If they pulled the Polks straight out of the box, I think it's possible that the MLs were also too new for a proper test.
Nice to see Martin Logan delivered ( in more than one way ). When your company is known for electrostatic speakers producing something smaller, more affordable and easier to drive is a challenge. Thanks for reviewing them guys !
Martin Logan should make Mini ESL electrostatic bookshelf speakers each with a 6.5-inch woofer and a 2-foot-tall electrostatic panel. It will basically be the cheapest US-made loudspeaker that Martin Logan will offer.
My first set of speakers, after graduating college were actually a purchase I made for my dad. At the time I purchased him a set of Martin Logan…still have them. So great to see the company make such a great improvement, looking forward to listen to these at my local Best Buy dealer.
I went and demoed these at a Magnolia store at Best Buy. They did not seem much to know how to demo them. They were positioned way too far apart for the distance, and the only amps they had to drive them with were not two channel. My observations in this context is that the imaging was really really good, as was the mid range. I was not, however, as blown away by the base as I expected. I have no idea if that is due to them using subpar amplification, or something about the set up. Mentally, I was comparing them to PSB t2 speakers I have at home, supplemented with a SB3000 pro subwoofer. This is the challenge with trying out new speakers these days. The only real way to do it is order from someone with a decent trial period, but then one has to deal with prospect of shipping really heavy speakers back if they don’t work out. I miss the days of lots of good audio shops to go try speakers out! There is a similar problem with Polk. There is nowhere to hear them in the Greater Boston area.
This was a really great review and caught me off guard! You two are amazing and I'm really looking forward to 2023 reviews :) I hope this means we have some paradigms coming up as well.
@@andrewrobinsonreviews No one in the world 🌎 watches your video like me waiting to see JBL HDI tower speakers comper to this ☝️ Thax am Torry from Uganda East Africa
Awesome review! Seriously looking at the model just above these, the XF 200 as my next speaker. Was originally considering the Wharfdale Elysian 4s but they were just out of reach cost wise. Nice to see are able to compete at a substantially lower price.
I am so happy that Martin Logan upped their game. This speaker looks and sounds like it performs well above their previous Motion line, 60XTi and 40i, which by the way to me sounded beautiful. I am glad I opted not to get the 60XTi, these new speakers are now on my short list without question. For now I am going to enjoy what I have, but now I have The speaker I want to shoot for. Oh and by the way, I love the simple "M" logo on the speaker, it is so much more classy than their "Martin Logan" written logo. These speakers look so beautiful in the black/walnut finish. Thanks for the review.
Pretty excited you both are excited about these speakers. After watching the video, my dream speaker on a budget is still the Polk R700. My dream speaker on a "Bryan Gone Wild" budget is now the Motion XT F100.
While I don’t know this product I did buy ML Motion 60XT speakers at full retail when they first came out. I then immediately bought the matching 60XT center speaker and two JBL floor standing speakers for the rear surround sound. It was a big investment but I ne er for one moment regretted it. Over the years I get more and more enjoyment and entertainment. I have watched thousands of movies and millions of hours of music. The music gets better! As ignorant as I was about hi fi I went with the most money I could afford in the space I had. They are the heaviest speakers you will ever own mine are 65 pounds of dead weight. So heavy. The mellow sweet sound is a result of the very strong cabinet that keeps the air moving in the speaker and not waisting energy pumping up the cabinets. Very powerful units. Two bass speakers one mid range and a folded tweeter. I only had one shot and I was very satisfied very satisfied indeed. Very strong units.
Fantastic review! Never loved the older Motion series. Looks like these are a Home Run for Martin Logan. Also just want to add how much the reviews are just technically head & shoulders above everyone else. Camera angles/ different views, Editing just 1st rate production. The way you guys do this makes one want to hear what you say next. Well done Andrew & Kristi! 😎
The previous Motions were fantastic, also. Agreed with the production value on these videos, vastly superior to just about every other talking head style audio review channels out there
Congrats to you two for getting the scoop reviewing the new Motion line. I think you earned it and it appears as if the folks at Martin Logan are confident of their product and your reviewing abilities. What next, Paradigm/Anthem? I too would like a review of the bookshelf.
Merci Andrew and Kristi ! Fantastic review of these magnificient speakers. I was just looking at the beauty and the quality construction of thses speakers and was telling myself : Geez these should sound awesome ! And I listened to your review and was absolutely sold !! Andrew I just can't keep myself to watch your videos review because you put so much enjoyment and passion. In the same time you can put great technical specs with ease without losing us. And the chitchat with Kristi is just the icing of the cake. You cannot do a better review of these speakers that I will put #1 on my list. Thanks you so much for a great great review !!! Xavier
I've listened about a dozen of your reviews (of which are very thorough and educational) and this one has me adding the Martin Logan XT line to my short list of speakers to try (for I'm still searching for that sound that creates audio nirvana for me). Thank you for yet another excellent review!
You can buy my 60 XTs if I get F100s. These are bold. These are brash. The sound stage, is deeper, than it is wide. Resolution, is nothing short of exceptional, for the price.
I have been enjoying Martin Logan's for about five years. I had a pair of Motion 4's tacked on, as my Surrounds, anchored to a Motion 8 center. Coupled to a pair of ADS L-810's . Call them vintage , but for about 900 a pair, THEY beat the snot of any modern speaker. (Some of the new speakers, costing 2-3 ) grand. Several months ago, I made the mistake of selling the ADS speakers, and pulled the Trigger on a new pair of Martin Logans ; F''1's. (This is where I didn't understand what ML was thinking.) There were four iterations of basically the same speaker), All sharing the same case. F1's F100's and an XT slapped on to it. Then , with a slight MOD, THE F2 system was born. F200 , F200 XT. (which in my opinion, made no sense. ) THE Woofers went from 5.5 " to 6.5". And, by that point; It was getting too expensive. THE speakers were returned. Three years ago; I upgraded the Center to a Motion 30, and my surrounds got bumped to Motion 15's. Everything thing changed. I had sold a pair, of B%W's 685 , and had transplanted my Motion 15's as my main speakers. Off the charts, amazing sound, was an understatement. More over- The little speakers put out sound, I could hardly believe. I am now running four of them , matched with M.L 400 Sub. In this configuration, they are something incredible. And, still blow me away. My recommendation, Don't spend 18-2500' dollars on the Towers. Do, instead , run the Quad 15's, and a Sub setup. You won't be disappointed. -Mark-
Really intrigued by this new Motion XT line. Considering upgrading my Polk LSiM front stage (703 bookshelf pair and 704c center), and given I have Rel T5x subs for each, the B100 bookshelfs + C100 center seem like fantastic options for getting transparency and detail in the highs + mids at a reasonable price. Hearing these being talked about in the same breath as the B&W 805 D4s regarding treble says a lot about their capacity!
Great review! Martin Logan has been one of those brands for years bringing products to the market with high end sound at mid level pricing, utilizing non inflated margins. So glad you got your hands on a pair of the towers!
Two weeks ago I bought the F100's to compare them to my ML 60XTI which are the previous version of these speakers. I spent around 50-60 hours testing them and eventually returned them as my 15 day return policy ended. Maybe it's my ears, room, or other equipment, but I didn't find the sound to be that much different from the 60Xti as they are both incredible speakers. In testing I had the subs off and no eq, so it was just the speaker and my room. I don't know how many times I listened to the same songs trying to hear the differences. If I did hear differences they were subtle and at this price I expected to easily hear the differences. I was 12 hours off the suggested break-in time so maybe that would have made a difference? I tried movies as well, the John Wick nightclub scene. Once again no sub or eq and both speakers were amazing. I think it was the first time I've watched that scene with my subs off and I was impressed by how well each speaker handled the scene. The bass was excellent and the gunshots were piercing. The only difference I did hear, and it was very obvious, was near the end of the scene with the first gunshot that hit John Wick in the bullet proof vest. For some reason that one gunshot, each of the four times I watched it, had some extra sound effect playing with it or something on the F100's where it was just a normal gunshot on the 60Xti's. I do like the looks of the F100's over the 60Xti's and going in I was excited to hear these new awesome speakers, but for me there just wasn't enough improvement for me to keep them.
I agree with you, i m owner of the 60xti, i listened the F200 and was not very impressed. Bass is going deeper for sure, but i use 2 sb3000 anyway so it is not critical. I prefer the classy look of old 60xt(i), but it is a matter of taste. Conclusion: 60xti are a big bargain imho
@@yenbbc8840 If you are in the States then I would demo the F200's from Crutchfield and see if you like them since they have a great return policy. That's what I did and ultimately didn't think the F100's were worth the price over the 60Xti. I did demo the B100's first so I had both of them and was able to return both the F100 and the B100 with no issue.
Very nice looking speaker to match the sound! I love hearing reviews like this that show that the 'sound to price' ratio is flattening a little bit and that you can get GREAT sound without having to spend tens of thousands of dollars on speakers and equipment to get great sound. Thank you for all the work you both do on all of these. I LOVE having all of the links in the descriptions! I can't imagine that is easy to do each time, but THANK YOU for the extra effort and information! I always use the links when making a purchase! ;-) I know there are a few upcoming reviews that I'm already excited about.... Keep up the amazing work!
Your delivery of information and and the sheer objectivity of it, without making your viewers feel like they have to run out and buy these, is commendable. I feel that as a consumer I am armed with a wealth of information to make an informed decision completely on my own. We’ll done 🙏🏼
Finally got ‘em (walnut) with C100. These absolutely image as well as anything I’ve ever heard. After Dirac they even got better. Biggest surprise was their home theater performance. Center soundstage is tight but wrap well to the side and rear. Amazing all around speaker. Music & movies. These speakers kill! Thanks A & K!
Another killer review! Knowing that you and Kristi have heard so many different speakers makes it all the more more incredible to hear her say these are some of the best speakers she has ever heard. I'd be real curious to hear the stand mount versions of these. Also, I'm super hopeful - and excited - for the future review of the RN-2000A and the MRX-740! Keep up the great work!!
Usually I would definitely go for the white finish because there different. However this would be the one of those times where I love the Wood finish a touch more! What else that I love is these towers demand your full attention 😆. Oh also I agree with Kristi the logo is just enough and not in your face! have a good rest of your weekend guys!
Thanks to this review, I was motivated to retire my vintage Celestion 700 bookshelves (supported by a ML sub) to bring a couple of these F100 beauties into my life. I had been leaning toward some B&W's but am so glad I changed direction. I've only had them for a few days so far, but they do sound amazing driven by my Bryston 4B-ST. Thanks so much for your review, Andrew and Kristi!
So glad to see a nice 'nod of approval' toward ML ! I am in the electrostatic camp with the Classic 9's from the Masterpiece series and a Dynamo 1600x subwoofer. It is good to see the spotlight on this company once again! Thanks so much, always look forward to your casual and friendly style 🙂
I've just heard these at the Bristol HiFi show here in the UK and I now understand your enthusiasm for these. Wow, simply phenomenal. I've been looking for new speakers for a few years and I think I've just found the one.
@@andrefortune8278 They were actually very impressive too, I did like PMCs but there was something about the Martin Logan's clarity and tonality I really liked. Might have to give the PMC another listen though. What was better about the PMC for you?
@@BJyelhsA well depends at what point you caught the demonstration but they swapped between the bigger models 24i and 26i... i like the punchy bass from the transmission line and the delicate highs which were very articulate stunning midrange just perfect tonal balance overall 🤩 music flowed much more easier with the extra driver from the 26i but me personally more superior overall performance may have been electronics and pairing but to each is own... the proac k10 were simply effortless and stunning that caught my ears 😂😂
@@andrefortune8278 great summary Andre. I can't remember which I heard, I think they had just swapped to the 26i. My dealer has both on demo so I'm definitely going to have another demo with some familiar tracks but a lot is personal taste perhaps too. Good luck with your audiophile journey and thanks for sharing your thoughts on these and the PMCs 🧡👍
When you guys reviewed the Lumina 2 you were very excited about them, but this appears to be your favorite by far. I absolutely can’t wait to hear these because I know they must be fantastic. Something else I figured out is that several times you compared the R700’s in the review so they must be a very good speaker as well, not as pretty to look at but still very good sound especially for the money.
For music and home theatre where all speakers and subs will be pushed against the front wall: 1. For F100s, would adding a small sub (limited space) like the SVS Micro 3000 be beneficial? If so, would you recommend 1 or 2, and what crossover ? 2. For B100s, would the SVS Micro 3000 be a good pairing? Would you recommend 1 or 2, and what crossover? Thanks!
If you know that you need to place your speakers close or flat up against your front wall and you are NOT going to try and address any potential room issues that may arise as a result, I'm not confident that either ML speaker would be ideal for that type of set up regardless of the subwoofer. You may actually be better off shopping for a speaker like the Arendal bookshelf (bit.ly/3A3VGqH) or their towers (bit.ly/3Ds3yFr) and a sub or two. As for the crossover, this will vary depending on the speaker and your room. If you get a receiver, for example the RZ50 and run DIRAC, it will set all of that for you and highly recommend you go that route given what you are telling me. As for the SVS micro, it pairs well with everything. We just have chosen to no longer recommend them or review them after their most recent behavior. If you end up going with Arendal, they do have subwoofers (bit.ly/3Qybucc) that will work just as well. Thank you so much for the support!
@@andrewrobinsonreviews How do I know (1) if I have room issues, and (2) if I've fixed them? E.g. can I detect issues by running 20-20k sweeps, and fix them with auto-room correction? It seems Anthem ARC can do this, can Sony AZ7000ES? For the 20-20k sweeps on R700s, I'm getting a flat response (+-3 db) except for a +8 bump at 50hz and +4 bump 90hz. I have the MRX 740 8k and Sony AZ7000ES to play with. Thanks for all that you do!
I'm totally new to everything HiFi and learning. I had looked at the SVS speakers and was curious what the "recent activity" was that Andrew is refering to. I will Always support Andrew and Kristi's choices. Someone enlighten me as I was considering the Ultra system.
Yup... MLogi makes fantastic speakers. Crazy how their motion series has NOT gotten more attention. Has and loved motion 35xti... for about 1K a pair. Proud of you... this is the 2nd ribbon-ish speaker you have liked.
Holy crap, the Yahama streaming integrated amp! I didn't expect you guys to review these new Martin Logans any time soon. I was hoping that you'd really like the bookshelves since the XT towers are a bit out of range for me. I don't have any experience with Martin Logan in any way, but they captured my interest with these new speakers.
Shill!!!!!! So jealous! Martin Logan are end game and I still play back in my head the first time I heard their electrostatic speakers and the image they created in the void space between them. That white with FMT waveguide is gorgeous
I bought the discontinuing ML XT60’s three years ago as my late-in-life entry into higher end audio. Since then, I have heard others be unimpressed by them, noting allegedly poor internal bracing and resonances not afflicting other comparable brands. It seemed that the XT60i’s (never heard them) offered incremental improvement, including better bracing. Still, I have rarely seen or read anyone really impressed by ML loudspeakers. I like “mellow” music more than acid rock or hip-hop, and my ML’s provide all I need. I appreciate your review of the XT F100’s and hope to hear them one day, but I doubt I will be buying them anytime soon. I doubt I’d get much for my XT60’s and I don’t have the room or budget to splurge $5,000 on an additional set of tower speakers.
Great review. I still struggle to understand the space comments / constraints around a tower vs bookshelf. Especially with these new speaker stands that are splayed out in nature vs a straight up tower. Towers take up no more space generally than most bookshelves on stands.
Because of your video I drove 100 miles away and demoed the f200s .....back and fourth with Cambridge edge separates and the bowers 702s3 ....and they are everything you said and more ...the imaging soundstage width depth and height was amazing....the only thing I felt the bowers did better was a slight advantage in the midrange and dynamics ....these are a hit and can't wait for my pair to show up
Also wanted to add, I've never heard ML tower speakers but I have heard their electrostatic speakers. They were the cleanest, clearest, most antiseptic speakers I have ever heard. Definitely NOT to my liking but I could see where they would be a sound that some people would be chasing after.
@@amb86 it’s not a matter of taste, it is a matter of cost and function. Some high-end speakers are made from aluminum or carbon fiber and not wood. Also I usually listen to music in the evening in a darkened room. Lastly, since a lot of sf speakers are sold in the USA I am not sure what you mean by “American taste”.
Can you bring this speaker into more of your comparisons in future videos? I love this review. Fascinating that Kristi compares them to La Scalas. I’ll always remember your guys’ La Scala review. Really been wanting the electro static speakers for a while now. Wish I knew your opinion on these vs their ESLX speakers.
It’s nice to be able to hear direct comparisons to the Polk R700s I’ve had for a while. I had cut my wish list of home theater speaker upgrades down to Arendal 1723 and high-end Wharfdale. But after this video I have to add Martin Logan to that list and I’m not sad about it. Their old motion series were my original dream speakers. A lot of that came down to reputation and looks. But they didn’t review well enough to stay on my list. The new line looks as good or better than the old one (I’m a sucker for satin white) and now has one of the best reviews I’ve ever heard from my most trusted source.
I have my original ADS L710s in my little 12x12 office and that’s all I will ever need. But I enjoy checking out the latest gear. The best compliment I can pay you is that when other reviewers introduce a product I just assume they are part of the marketing hype machine. When you recommend a product I believe it.
The way you described these speakers they sound comparable to older polk lsim series in particular the polk lsim707. What an excellent speaker. It by itself had a tremendous amount of detailed quick deep bass, and an awesome treble and midrange. It bests all of the bookshelf/sub pairings I've tried. Good job martin logan.
…dude, I replaced my LSiM 705 with the (now) old Motion 40i… very happy I did so… might be smaller, but much better… Your not gonna lose upgrading from those LSiM 707’s…
I work at Starpower Home theater in Dallas Texas, and absolutely cannot wait for us to get these on display, Andrew if you're ever in town please stop by!
Really, really, really want a review of the bookshelf. Also would be VERY interested in your take on comparing the center channel to a single bookshelf since they can be purchased individually. I already own subs and prefer my center and l/r speakers to be identical. Thanks.
Wow thanks for another great review! I listen to you a couple of years ago and pulled the trigger on the Klipsch Heresy IV’s. After break in and pairing with REL Tzero subs I thought I had my forever speakers. I had a 1980 vintage La Scala in the garage I bought for $500 dollars years ago, thinking I would set up a mono system. Turned out I am not into mono. After your review of the La Scala’s I found a matching single La Scala. I slapped in some new crossovers and hauled them into my listening room and man did I fall in love with the sound. So much so I moved the Heresy’s upstairs to our living room for movie duty. The one thing I don’t love is the ginormous size. These Martin Logan’s sound too good to be true! Once again your review has me thinking! And as a result of your Lumina ii review I am trading a pair of Magnepan LRS and a NHT Ten sub + some cash for a pair of Lumina iii. After living with La Scala’s the LRS just doesn’t cut it for me any longer. Thanks for the review!
As always, terrific review Andrew and Kristi! While you mentioned that you probably won't be reviewing the B100 bookshelf speakers, I would love to hear your thoughts on those. While I have a smaller room than yours, It's really the price difference that is critical for me. It looks like you could buy a pair, including a decent subwoofer for half the cost of the towers, and I already own a nice REL subwoofer. If the sound of the bookshelves with a sub (more for music than home theater) competes favorably with the towers, it would represent a far more economical option.
I'm in your same boat. The B100 bookshelf speaker has all of the new features of the XT line we are after. 1) the new 2nd Gen AMT tweeter 2) the new waveguide design for better tweeter dispersion 3) the new "Nomex Reinforced Kevlar cone" for the 6.5 inch midrange woofer 4) the new design esthetic The 3 bass woofers below on the F100 are NOT the new kevlar cones. If you already own sub(s) then you can save $3,000 while still being able to experience the "new" of Martin Logan's new tech
Question about pairings. Using either a Uniti Atom or Marantz Model 40N, and listening to 90s/00s rock (think Black Crowes/Tom Petty's Wildflowers to Radiohead's more electronic stuff) and action movies, help me decide between the Concept 50 + subwoofer vs these vs Kef LS60. I don't yet know much about ohm ratings, and I don't know if the Atom/Model 40N could get the magic out of these. Don't worry about sound quality/characteristics, plenty in your vids on that. Just wondering about driving these. Thanks! Love your content.
I personally would not use the Atom on the MartinLogan XT F100s. Will the Atom get sound to come out of the speakers? Yes, without a doubt, but if you were to turn things up or want to experience more driving, forceful, and tight bass the Atom will likely fall a little flat and become a bit mushy with THESE speakers. The 40N will fare better and I would choose it over the Atom but neither is ideal (in my opinion). The 40N is great with the Concept 50s (with a sub), but if you want to take ALL the guesswork out of hifi (and 2.1 channel home theater) the LS60 is hard to beat and in my opinion, is likely going to be your best. Hope this helps!
I'm glad to see the Martin Logans getting the praise they deserve! The previous motion series was also really good, well, at least the model I own. I am not sure what previous model you were not pleased with.
Interesting. I pulled up your graphics for the Meta r11s and compared. The F100's technically scored better all round. Yes, they fell short in the bass areas. I wonder how the F200's would have scored? According to Martin Logan, it's not just about more base. There is more resonance in the F200s. I am torn. My only reference is listening to Crutchfield's Compare and Listen. Martin sounds better there, but so does the Lumina 5's. It would be cool if you could summarize ALL of your floor standing speakers in a Rtings format. A sort of one stop shop to see their scores. Any thoughts?
I love the enthusiasm! I could tell you two really liked these. 🤣 The speakers are beautiful, almost majestic! I missed their sensitivity rating but I'll look it up. Thanks for a great review!
I hope you might review some Arendal 1723 towers and compare them to these new Martin Logan towers. The prices are more similar than your other comparisons. And I think the performance may be as well.
I think I started watching this channel since you made a video on the Electromotion ESL. Grew up in a house where my dad owned the Aerius i's, remember being as tall as a fire extinguisher and marveling at the speakers towering over me and being see-through. I ended up buying the ESL's on your recommendation, and haven't had an ounce of buyer's regret since. Absolutely infatuated with them. Glad to see ML is continuing their astonishing work in normal cabinet speakers as well! Now I'm faced with the difficult choise in ceiling speakers; Klipsch or ML...
First things first, thanks a ton for the wonderful reviews, your reviews feel much more grounded and heartfelt to me while being knowledgeable yet unfussy. I’m feel I am much versed and in the know before a month when I stated playing with the idea of putting together my own setup. Q - XT F100s or Forte IVs ? I know it’s subjective but what would you guys pick ?
I was this close to buying the Wharfdale Elysian 4s and matching center, but if this is equal or better at a third less the cost (I’m considering the XT f200s), then I’m shocked 😮 and super happy than ML delivered.
Turns out I have a local Martin Logan dealer. Demo'd the B100 bookshelves and ordered them (and the C100 centre) on the spot. To my ears, Andrew and Kristi's review is spot on, and I can't wait for them to arrive. Found black to be the best of the colourways for me. Pictures do not do the gloss black of the cabinet justice.
Holy crap! I was never a fan of the look of their older motion speakers but adore the way these look. I do like their subs though. To think the performance of these also exceeds their appearance? I have a pair of Polk Reserve R500s and am tempted to upgrade!
M-L subs are great! I have a pair of Dynamo 800X paired with my Bowers and Wilkins 805 D3 stand mounts. Perfect blend. I also have a 1999 pair of M-L Aerius stats in my den. They give those 805’s a run for their money.
Great review. I was planning to get some R700’s but I may have to dig a little deeper into my pocket. I love the look of the charcoal front on the wood grain and the beauty rings that show with the screens on. It would be interesting to see what that front would look like on the white cabinet.
I wish you guys had been able to review the 1723s from Arendalsound. They are 85lbs each and are built like tanks. I would love to hear a comparison between the MarginLogan and the 1723s
I was already to pull the trigger on 1723’s before seeing this video. I ordered the F100’s. It was more money but everyone’s enthusiasm for these ML speakers and their sound sealed the deal.
@@jmichaej4853 I am sure you are going to be very happy. The 1723s are really big with a really big sound. I imagine the MLs have a more forward sound with those tweeters. I want to hear them at best buy
I am quite pleased with this recommendation . I want to use M L 15s in certain areas but the Motion group in others. Hearing your wife 's point of view actually helped me. Thank you both for your candor and comparison. 👍
Great review! Sucks being an Audiophile these days lol. With new products like the ML's fuels the upgradeitis that some of us have. I have Sonus Faber Sonetto VIII's, great speakers, but I had Legacy Classic HD, EMT tweeter which I really liked, but was too (razor accurate) sharp for me. The ML might be worth checking out! your opinion? there is a dealer near me, gotta check em out!
Just saw this review and it may be timely. I bought the Concept 50's a couple of weeks ago from a dealer out in CO that allows returns for up to 60 days. I also picked up a used Luxman D-03X from them too. Power is from Rotel 1592 Mk2 Coming from Focal and B&W, it took a dew days to get into the neutral sound, but I LOVE what I am hearing. My tiny issue is I wish they had a bit more detail in the upper midrange and tweeter. Dp you think these ML towers are the better fit?
Thank you for your support! If you're chasing a little more top end detail from about 1kHz on up, yes, the Logans WILL have more of that compared to the Concept 50s that roll off by about 3dB whereas the Logans remain relatively linear to 10-15kHz. They don't "boost" the way Focal or B&W do though.
One thing I never can quite wrap my head around is what is required to drive a speaker like this. My current older AVR is a Pioneer SC-1522-K unit. It claims: Class D3 Amplification › Channels: 9.2 › 720 W Multi ch Simultaneous Drive (1 kHz, THD 1 % @ 8 ohms) › 210 W/ch (1 kHz, THD 1 % @ 4 ohms) › 170 W/ch (1 kHz, THD 1 % @ 6 ohms) › 130 W/ch (1 kHz, THD 0.08 % @ 8 ohms) Is this sufficient to drive the Motion XT F100 and Center channel? Thanks for the great Review. These are on my absolute shortlist.
I was going to ask you guys if you could review these speakers 😁. It was Awesome when I checked this morning’s video and saw it 😮. I wanted to get the Polk R700 but they always seem out of stock 😢. But I also wanted a slightly better finish. You guys really Hit it out of the Park with this review!!! You guys are my Favorite UA-cam AV reviewers 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
While I am supremely happy with the loudspeaker choice I made (these are ones that cannot be found hardly even on the used market but they are fantastic), I am SO STOKED that the little high-end audio store in my tiny town is a Martin Logan dealer which means I might (FOR ONCE) actually get to hear these in person. Considering the depth and breadth of your reviews and knowing that these might be the new high water mark, that will tell me everything I need to know about where the bar is (and how my speakers are from it). Cheers!
Listen, this review has me floored! I'm a Martin Logan fanboy and this surprise of a review has me ready to upgrade NOW!!! I currently have the motion 20's, 30 center, 15's for surround and 4i's for Atmos. Sounds like the new f100's are leagues above my set. I would love a comparo between the f100's and the paradigm founder 100f's. Who at paradigm do i need to launch my letter/email writing campaign to get you and Kristi a pair to review? I so need it. Thanks for the content and keep 'em coming!
Very intrigued by your enthusiasm for these speakers. Might get these for my office. My wife might freak if I bought yet another speaker for our home. haha
These might be overkill for an office space (depending on the room size of course). The bookshelf bit.ly/3DZRs6f would be a nice option for an office IMO.
Sorry late to the game, learning more about home theater set up. I currently have rp 8000f, really interested in ML-200s. I have an open concept living/kitchen with cathedral ceilings. So was hoping to get more out of the 200s vs 100s. Would add bookshelf’s for 5.1..eventually try height speakers for 5.1.4, possibly 2 subs. My question, I have a onkyo rz50, just purchased emotiva xpa-3 for LCR. Would this be enough to get full appreciation of the 200s? Also, my understanding can still run 2 subs on the rz50, would be best to minidsp correct at that point. Really enjoy your channel, have be watching your old stuff.
Yes, your Onkyo with the Emotiva will drive the Logans brilliantly. You can run two subs on the RZ50 but know that they are not independent signals. Thank you so much for watching and supporting the channel!
Thanks so much! I'm still worried about rz50 and non-independent signals, it's still in return window, but upgrade to rz70 will limit other purchases, will do more thinking. I've read you can still get good 2 sub sound from non-independent signals, will have to see. @@andrewrobinsonreviews
Please don’t write off reviewing the bookshelf version - it comes in around $800 and in home theater application it may be a superior buy with some subs - for two channel these towers sound like they fit the bill but as an upgrade path for many who already have subs on hand or in a home theater the bookshelves could be a more cost effective path to awesome! 🙏
I love Martin Logan speakers! I have had their electrostats since 1998. I used to run a full 7.1 ML electrostat set up! Prodigy, Theater, Ascent and Scripts and a Descent of course. I’ll have to look in to these because I can’t run my surround stats in my current set up and need something else…this could be the answer! Thanks Andrew for the great review!
Sounds like they knocked it out of the park. I would keep those as long as they will let you!!!! Absolutely gorgeous, and they look soooooo good in your space. Thanks for another great Sunday morning, and have a great week.
Great review. Personally I would probably go up the line and get the ESL 9 since the sound of a panel (electrostatic or planar) really is something else.
What an awesome review Andrew and Kristi. I concur with others here that I really look forward to hearing both of you opinions as you describe the details so so well , bloody fantastic! Let's hope all the manufacturers who have ignored you guys wake up to themselves and make their gear available for your review. Looking forward to what comes next..
I'd like to see these compared to the Arendal 1723 THX. Those have received rave reviews too and they're ~$1200 cheaper. Build quality on both looks pretty solid, but the Arendal comes in around 110lbs per speaker compared to the 76lb M&L's.
I'd love to see the comparison as well. They are $800 less though. But based on size the Arendal 1723 competes with the Martin Logan XT200's at $5,500, so $1,800 cheaper!
@@bearclaw5115 Arendal's pricing is with tax and shipping included, so after tax it is closer to $1200. You're right though that the next tier up might be the better comparison!
Very nice and in-depth video!! I was literally actively searching for Martin Logan products and then you conveniently post this video!! You stated that the bookshelves are also very good? I am currently looking at a pair!
I own a pair of Theos and had a small issues with the panel after 1 week. I call ML and they send me a replacement ASAP. I have to say ML have the best CS period.

This or the Kef’s LS60 wireless which would you say sounds better ??

Lol
I think you showed they need more power.
I was also undecided between these two but I always focused on polk, now listening to your words I'm really going for polk. Thanks
6:00 This is the perfect IYKYK. The electrostatics are just *chefs kiss*
Thanks! No Paradigm right now, but things can change.
Paradigm +1

That's how I would rank 'em. Appreciate you tuning in Bryan!
Love it. You guys are awesome. So refreshing
Thanks so much! They were fun to review.
Which previous Motion model were not pleased with?
Ditto ~
The previous Motions were fantastic, also. Agreed with the production value on these videos, vastly superior to just about every other talking head style audio review channels out there
Yeah, my first gen M40s are awesome
@Joel Dazey The ML Motion i series speakers have plenty of high praise reviews, but they go underappreciated by those that haven't heard them.
I just heard them yesterday and love them exactly what I want in a speaker. I wonder how they compare to the motion 60
Congrats to you two for getting the scoop reviewing the new Motion line. I think you earned it and it appears as if the folks at Martin Logan are confident of their product and your reviewing abilities. What next, Paradigm/Anthem? I too would like a review of the bookshelf.

Conclusion: 60xti are a big bargain imho
at this moment the 60 XTI's are now $2000 a pair in white or cherry. the new XTF200's are $5500. i wonder if its worth the difference.

For music and home theatre where all speakers and subs will be pushed against the front wall:
Awesome review! Cancelled my current speaker order then ordered F200s, WOW!
Danke!
Thank you so much!
Shill!!!!!!
While I agree with you, the towers look much more massive in a room than a bookshelf on a stand
Because of your video I drove 100 miles away and demoed the f200s .....back and fourth with Cambridge edge separates and the bowers 702s3 ....and they are everything you said and more ...the imaging soundstage width depth and height was amazing....the only thing I felt the bowers did better was a slight advantage in the midrange and dynamics ....these are a hit and can't wait for my pair to show up
Enjoy!
702 s3 is a good speaker but sound wise is a bit behind the “high end” Andrew says they compete with…..
Lol! When I saw these handsome speakers, the first thing I thought was, "Now here's a speaker that I'll wager Kristi and I will agree upon!"
Given the Kristi had ZERO prior experience with the Motion line, I wasn't sure if this was going to be a speaker she liked or not.
Also wanted to add, I've never heard ML tower speakers but I have heard their electrostatic speakers. They were the cleanest, clearest, most antiseptic speakers I have ever heard. Definitely NOT to my liking but I could see where they would be a sound that some people would be chasing after.
@@andrewrobinsonreviews I think he was referring to the satin white finish.
In terms of looks, sonus faber is still the best with that sexy italian design and finish. Sorry but American taste just can't compare
Would you please share the review of the previous Motion speakers you are referring to. Thanks
You and I have similar tastes friend!
High end wharfedales as in the evo or Elysians?

Thanks for the invite! Can't wait for you to hear them too!
Really, really, really want a review of the bookshelf. Also would be VERY interested in your take on comparing the center channel to a single bookshelf since they can be purchased individually. I already own subs and prefer my center and l/r speakers to be identical. Thanks.
Noted!
1) the new 2nd Gen AMT tweeter
2) the new waveguide design for better tweeter dispersion
3) the new "Nomex Reinforced Kevlar cone" for the 6.5 inch midrange woofer
4) the new design esthetic
The 3 bass woofers below on the F100 are NOT the new kevlar cones.
@@KristiWright Thanks so much Kristi!
Working my way through all your old reviews; enjoying every one of them.
I still think that the Wharfdale Elysian 4's cabinet is is built better. This is a speaker fight I'd like to hear in person to know for sure!

Comparison with Arendal 1723 TOWER THX would be incredible!!
Your reviews are so damn good I feel like I now need to get these speakers!
Once again both of you made my day! Un grand merci à vous. (French fan from West Indies).

Power is from Rotel 1592 Mk2
Coming from Focal and B&W, it took a dew days to get into the neutral sound, but I LOVE what I am hearing.
They look like pieces of art and I love that they sound as good as they look!
They're soooo good. You'll have to hear 'em playing Overwatch 2 INSANE!
@@andrewrobinsonreviews I just bought them in white !
@@andrewrobinsonreviews I can only imagine and look forward to it! Do you think they’ll become your “permanent” choice when not reviewing?
One thing I never can quite wrap my head around is what is required to drive a speaker like this. My current older AVR is a Pioneer SC-1522-K unit. It claims: Class D3 Amplification
› Channels: 9.2
› 720 W Multi ch Simultaneous Drive (1 kHz, THD 1 % @ 8 ohms)
› 210 W/ch (1 kHz, THD 1 % @ 4 ohms)
› 170 W/ch (1 kHz, THD 1 % @ 6 ohms)
› 130 W/ch (1 kHz, THD 0.08 % @ 8 ohms)
Is this sufficient to drive the Motion XT F100 and Center channel? Thanks for the great Review. These are on my absolute shortlist.
I was going to ask you guys if you could review these speakers 😁. It was Awesome when I checked this morning’s video and saw it 😮.

Cheers!
God the wood veneer option looks gorgeous!!!
It's a real wood veneer and looks even better in person.
@1:00 the waveguide will not improve dispersion as much as it will control it and reduce near wall reflections.
