Little known fact: Orton was originally not meant to win the title for a while yet. The plans were changed when Benoit (cue shitty jokes about Crispen wah or some other dumb ass comment) demanded to lose the title because he hated being the champ. The pressure of ratings and PPV buys was way too intense for him as well as the sudden burst in his fame. Same thing happened with Eddie Guerrero.
Going completely off topic here for a moment. I'm not sure if WhatCulture Wrestling takes requests for these Top 10 lists, but if they do, I wanted to suggest a 10 Most Versatile Finishing Moves Ever. This list would highlight the 10 greatest finishing moves that can virtually be done to anyone, anywhere, at anytime and don't require a set finish to end a match.
MrJLov13 The ten examples that come to mind for me: 1. RKO 2. Diamond Cutter 3. Sweet Chin Music 4. Crippler Crossface 5. Ankle Lock 6. Spear 7. Knockout Punch 8. Stunner 9. Any kind of running knee strike 10. DDT
Say what you want about Benoit but his "Be a man." moment with Orton post match was one of the best things you can see in terms of putting someone over.
Lone Wolf it's like how wwe will mention that only two people have won the royal rumble from the number one spot, and then they won't mention Benoit, so what's the point of bringing it up?
Quinton Jackson Will you be fighting again in Bellator? If so, after that contract is complete, would you follow through with your desire to fight again in Japan? Likely for Rizin or even OneFC... I hope so, as I'd like to see Rampage again.
I was at the Raw the next night, and it was a great show. I still have gold confetti tucked into a PS2 WWE game case that was autographed by Randy Orton, Matt Hardy, and Val Venis.
Interesting about Undertaker wanting to lose clean to JBL. To refresh everyone's memory, the subsequent Thursday Night Smackdown after SummerSlam 2004, Undertaker got a rematch for the title, with Orlando Jordan defending the belt instead of JBL. JBL pulled the ref out of the ring, and the ref declared Undertaker the winner by DQ. But that match has always intrigued me, because I've lately been imagining how that match could have altered the future of WWE, as well as Undertaker's career. Simply put, what I've been imagining regarding that match is this: What if, instead of disqualifying JBL and Orlando Jordan, the ref chose to restart the match, and Taker ended up winning his 5th WWE Title as a result?
I now have new respect for JBL for him refusing to let Taker lose cleanly. Him being so devoted to selling himself as a chicken shit coward absolutely was the right call.
Orton vs Benoit is still easily in my top 5 matches of all time. I still watch it every once in awhile despite knowing what a monster Benoit really was. It's funny at the end when he's yelling for Orton to "be a man" and yet he ends up being the furthest thing from. Smh
The WCW and WWE Big Golds were not virtually the same belt. The WCW BG was handmade and dual plated (nickel and gold) by a company called Crumrine. WWE's version was modeled after the all gold cast copy of the original that was brought into the WWF during the Invasion. It features 3d artwork and was made by J-Mar (Joe Marshall).
It's a shame how people will not talk about the Main Event of SummerSlam 04 because of Benoit. he was such a good wrestler and all people will remembered him for of what happen ten years ago
I don't know why I kept watching Orton vs. Benoit for the World Heavyweight Title in SummerSlam as a Kid. FUN FACT: Orton vs. Benoit at SummerSlam 2004 was one of the First Main Event Match I have ever watched.
This was the first non pg wwe show I ever saw when I got the DVD of it as a kid for Christmas, boy was it shocking to see triple h go from 2009 DX to fighting Eugene
SummerSlam 2004 was the night that Randy Orton found the World Heavyweight Championship after it's been missing since WrestleMania XX. To this day, no one still don't know where the title have been. Brock Lesnar is STILL the youngest reigning *WWE CHAMPION,* Randy Orton became the youngest reigning *WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION.* Two different titles, two different title linage.
6:28 WhatCulture Wrestling said Randy Orton pinned Chris Benoit to win the World Heavyweight Championship, and there’s footage, so can you explain that?
Wait. I'm confused. How did the World title not hold the same lineage? How is it not the same belt? They bought WCW. They own the belt. They changed the name, sure, but it's the same belt, no?
I remember seeing this in theatres and it cut during the Undertaker vs JBL match and cut back with JBL in the limo. I remember everyone just started throwing all there food and drink at the screen. It was both hilarious and annoying.
Fun fact about a fun fact: Jerry Lawler used the term "Bizarro Land" specifically in reference to the Bizarro World of Superman comics, because he is a comic book fan.
This was my first live event, and that will always have me overlook any flaw cause it was just a spectacle seeing everything live But brilliant video nonetheless
So when Orton flopped they said "Hmmm, let's rethink this". When Roman flopped they said"Lets keep going for 2 years, oh shit it has gone really far, fuck, fuck, there's a fire now, crap, we are losing so much money, look at that, we're fucked, OK lets make him say some heely things then."
So you're saying That when Randy jumped out of a cake to attack Evolution it was predictable? His face turn didn't flop, they booked him HORRIBLY. Every time his music hit, the crowd popped.
I remember being mad that all the Heels won on this show. First PPV i ever watched live and all the good guys lost! Shame! XD The Toronto crowd pissed me off too.
Probably Vince's subtle revenge for the incessant "You screwed Bret" chants he was still getting and for TO making the Rock do a heel turn but kudo's to Dwayne Johnson's acting chops he made it work and had comedic spots with it like feuding with Hurricane.
wait, the world heavyweight championship doesn't share lineage with the wcw title? it's almost literally the same belt. plus as far as i remember the wcw title was called the world heavyweight title. wwf had the wwf title and wcw had the world heavyweight title. wrestling's weird...
I liked Orton winning his first world championship at 24. I was in his corner for that match because I liked the idea of WWE putting the title on someone certifiably on the rise (Benoit winning the title at Mania was a good way of establishing the changing wind in the company and Orton then taking the title at SummerSlam off Benoit would have been the next step) and I thought it was sad it was just killed a month later. He had someone to feud with in Triple H and at least letting him keep the title through one major defense would have been more worthwhile than just throwing him to the wolves without even getting a chance to establish himself as a credible champion.
This SummerSlam will go down in history as the night when Randy Orton found the missing World Heavyweight Title
Shotz and the royal rumble when big show elimated himself & hhh tap out to nothing!
Shotz you need help your still saying the oldest joke you need fucking help
XxXEliteShenronXxX 16 bruh stop reading the comments if you're going to keep getting upset with them
No wonder Triple H was so upset when Orton wouldn't give it back. He misplaced it at Wrestlemania earlier that year and just wanted it back.
Sevyn Leombruno i dont fucking care its a 10 year old joke and its stupid lets see how it feels for them to be chris benoit
Little known fact: Orton was originally not meant to win the title for a while yet. that would be actually amazing, book it what culture
MrJLov13 The ten examples that come to mind for me:
1. RKO
2. Diamond Cutter
3. Sweet Chin Music
4. Crippler Crossface
5. Ankle Lock
6. Spear
7. Knockout Punch
8. Stunner
9. Any kind of running knee strike
10. DDT
MrJLov13 Yeah there are a lot moves they could put there
codebreaker
MrJLov13 book it plumpy!
Say what you want about Benoit but his "Be a man." moment with Orton post match was one of the best things you can see in terms of putting someone over.
I wonder what WWE would rather everyone forget about, Benoit vs Orton or Triple H vs Eugene
Benoit of course
Grandmaster Cheeseburger They want to mention Orton winning the world title. They just don't want to mention Benoit.
Oh they'll mention Orton becoming the youngest World Champion in history but you'll never see the pinfall that made it so
Lone Wolf it's like how wwe will mention that only two people have won the royal rumble from the number one spot, and then they won't mention Benoit, so what's the point of bringing it up?
Error. This Summer Slam couldn't be found in our database.
Quinton Jackson LOL
Quinton Jackson
Fuck off
Quinton Jackson Will you be fighting again in Bellator? If so, after that contract is complete, would you follow through with your desire to fight again in Japan? Likely for Rizin or even OneFC... I hope so, as I'd like to see Rampage again.
LMAAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
XxXEliteShenronXxX 16 offended are you
97% of the comments; lame attempt at a Chris Benoit joke.
3% of the comments; people shouting the word "first" as if it meant something.
1% of the comments are percentages
.001% of the comments mock percentages
according to LuckyDT and ThePorkFate we're at 101,001%. holy hot damn.
LuckyDT First
LuckyDT I think you mean, 'type'.
Whereas only 8 1/3% of the comments have a chance of winning at Sacrifice!
I was at the Raw the next night, and it was a great show. I still have gold confetti tucked into a PS2 WWE game case that was autographed by Randy Orton, Matt Hardy, and Val Venis.
Was this the one that was in albany ny?
WWE has a way of showing their subtle insults to those wrestlers who left the company after being pushed for so long.
Interesting about Undertaker wanting to lose clean to JBL. Funny how WWE always talks about "Orton becoming the youngest World Champion in history!!". But fails to mention who he won it against.
Adam, how about a "How WWE Should Have Booked Randy Orton's First Title Reign" video?
That's.... a really good idea
Who's Adam?
PLZ Whatculture!!!!!! lets start a Go Fund Me !!!!!!
Orton vs Benoit is still easily in my top 5 matches of all time. I still watch it every once in awhile despite knowing what a monster Benoit really was. It's funny at the end when he's yelling for Orton to "be a man" and yet he ends up being the furthest thing from. Smh
That WHC match was amazing. Plus,by not acknowledging benoit, they're shitting on Orton's legacy also.
Randy Orton found the belt under the ring and a envious Triple H took out his frustrations on Orton thus being kicked out of Evolution
3:23 Someone in the crowd flipping off Edge
It's a shame how people will not talk about the Main Event of SummerSlam 04 because of Benoit. he was such a good wrestler and all people will remembered him for of what happen ten years ago
I was there. We changed "We want Christian!" and both Benoit and Orton were cheered. But Orton got a huge pop for the win.
love these 10 fascinating facts!
1:42. So...Broken Matt Hardy!
The overall show had some very good matches
Anyone else notice how Bayley is basically the modern day female version of Eugene?
Minus the retardation.
Hunter Zolomon or that anime protagonist who won't kill anybody: Gon from HxH or Ash Ketchum.
Maurice Bear Ash Ketchum killing people good god that sounds amazing..
Maurice Bear Or... Kenshin Himura as likely the most famous reference.
Hunter Zolomon doesn't like using weapons big difference lol
I don't know why I kept watching Orton vs. Benoit for the World Heavyweight Title in SummerSlam as a Kid.
FUN FACT: Orton vs. Benoit at SummerSlam 2004 was one of the First Main Event Match I have ever watched.
Chris Benoit should be able to be talked about and seen still today in Wrestling
This was the first non pg wwe show I ever saw when I got the DVD of it as a kid for Christmas, boy was it shocking to see triple h go from 2009 DX to fighting Eugene
Are you guys gonna do every year of every ppv in this style of video? That would be sick, and this dirty mark would love it!
SummerSlam 2004 was the night that Randy Orton found the World Heavyweight Championship after it's been missing since WrestleMania XX. To this day, no one still don't know where the title have been.

I was there, in the crowd. In fact it was my section that started the wave during the Undertaker / JBL fight.
Nice vid Adam
BEST. THUMBNAIL. EVER.

Actually, it was In Your House: Breakdown where Lawler first referred to Canada as Bizarro Land. That event was in Hamilton in Sept.98
Fun Fact: Only one Babyface was cheered on that night. And he wasn't Canadian.
Fun fact about a fun fact: Jerry Lawler used the term "Bizarro Land" specifically in reference to the Bizarro World of Superman comics, because he is a comic book fan.
This was my first live event, and that will always have me overlook any flaw cause it was just a spectacle seeing everything live
But brilliant video nonetheless
Fascinating facts about summerslam is better than 10 fascinating facts about wrestlemania

Benoit is one of the greatest ever he shouldn't be removed from wwe records
I can imagine jBL apologizing to Eddie after winning.
So you're saying That when Randy jumped out of a cake to attack Evolution it was predictable? His face turn didn't flop, they booked him HORRIBLY. Every time his music hit, the crowd popped.

Dirty Turtle o sorry man ha ha ha
Everybody is talking about Benoit and I'm here like, did anybody else see Undertaker slip on the limo at the end of his match?
Fact Number 11. The greatest rock band of all time (Rush) did the theme for SummerSlam 2004
Why'd they boo Edge? I always wondered that lol
SpaceGhost P Because that's what supposed to do to heels
DaPrixelKingJeff DaPrixelKingJeff he wasn't a heel yet at this time tho.

Lol that thumbnail 😂
The World Heavyweight Title win that WWE will never mention again...
marcus813 also the one at WM XX by Chris Benoit
It's weird that 2004 seems like so long ago
I liked Orton winning his first world championship at 24. I was in his corner for that match because I liked the idea of WWE putting the title on someone certifiably on the rise (Benoit winning the title at Mania was a good way of establishing the changing wind in the company and Orton then taking the title at SummerSlam off Benoit would have been the next step) and I thought it was sad it was just killed a month later. That picture of Taker at JBL's wedding is kinda cute, weirdly.
i thought Bizarro World was Montreal??? That dodgeball segment is what the Diva wrestlers went to wrestler's court for.
That thumbnail tho.
If you didn't know #3 you've only been watching wrestling for about a year
