  • We're finally back!!! The temperature has finally come back into the positive 20s, even peaking into the 30s on some days! So we finally are making the snow machine trip back to the homestead and are commencing some wintertime work.
Although it is nice out, there is still 2-3 feet of snow on the ground and we will most likely get a lot more snow before the season is over. But it doesn't hurt to get this snow moved around better and make some space for the melt to speed up as the weather warms up.
Today, we take you along as we get ready to head to the property, hop on the snowmachine, and get some work done! We are still living at Levi’s parents' guest cabin until we can get the camper to our property. They are past winter road maintenance so we have to snow machine to our property when we want to work on it or get in the truck to go to town.
Once the snow melts, we will be able to move our camper to the property and start working on the cabin! The garden is also a high priority this spring and the outhouse we may be able to complete this winter.
There is a lot of work to be done once the snow melts but it felt great to do what we could even in the snow.
Next time we will start burning again to get the big slash pile out of the way and get a few more trees knocked out of the view of the pond.
As Henry grows, I can get more and more done. Especially when it is actually warm enough for us to spend some time outside! Of course, the trucks provide a decent shelter for warming up and diaper changes. Someday I will be able to run into our very own cabin for such things!
Thank you as always for staying tuned! Spring is around the corner and so is our cabin build!

Henry is truly a beautiful baby. Now, I’m a grandma and old enough to admit that while all babies are precious and wonderful, not all are beautiful especially when this young. One of my boys was a little premature. lol, he looked like a shriveled up alien. He’s now your age and quite handsome, but we laugh at those pictures. He had a rough start. Enjoy that healthy, beautiful child.

Henry is getting so big. I was wondering if your in-laws lived in the other cabin full time. I'm sure grandma would love to watch Henry on heavy work days. Sounds like you are excited to start building. We got snow today but it will be gone by tomorrow. Have a good week.

Funny. Before you mentioned Levi's mom I was thinking that the grandparents probably loved having a freshly minted grand baby so close by. A suggestion for when you build your moose fence is to get a solar powered fencer and run electric fence around the garden. 20-25 years ago when my family still raised horses we used them all the time. Horses never got out and deer never got in. Im not 100% sure with moose as I don't live in moose country but it seems like it would work well. Then again moose are very big and have a very big attitude too, so...
Good to see you guys out enjoying some nice winter weather. Hope everything is good. Take care!

Pushing back snow helps with melting, water drainage, etc during breakup. Good job.

Look into a rock bucket for that tractor. Youll use it more then anything for clearning land trees ect. Just a hit dont try to turn in 4wheel drive with loader down front wheels off ground youll bust it up its a tractor not a bull dozer . dont take much to srip them gears in front axle

Yall had me at percolated coffee!
I really like how yall have mounted the tools on the box on the back of the snow machine! Looks like a good route to the property!
By ground not frozen, do you mean no permafrost?
I didnt realize yall did a cabin kit, where did you order from? We looked at Spenards in Wasilla and they have some good options.

We use the same coffee maker but never tried using a filter does that actually cut down a lot of the grounds being in the cup after I splash some cold water???
