I don't know why but many foreign traveller choose to go to Central or East Java through Senen train Station, I always find that the trains that go through Gambir station to be in better conditions instead.
Taking a train in Indonesia is more exciting through the Bandung station line, because along the way we are presented with a very beautiful view and the train line is on the top of the mountain
@@yourmatematt Yes, jakarta bandung or jakarta tasikmalaya, because at the cikampek station the railway line is divided into two, right towards Bandung and left towards Cirebon, if the right line later the railway line will be on top of the mountain which shows the beautiful scenery from the top of the mountain, while the left line later the railway line will only be on the mainland and the scenery is less memorable. 😄
Great video! There are some more infos about the train services here in Indonesia that might be beneficial for you guys PT Kereta Api Indonesia (abbreviated to KAI, I believe you saw the logos on the train) or Indonesian Railways Company (IRC) is the intercity train operator here. I will call them IRC for the rest of my "essay" here It's important to note that Java is the only island in Indonesia that has an extensive train network. Other island like Sumatera also has train network but not as extensive. 0:30 Large cities in Java usually have 2 big stations that serves intercity trains. In case of Jakarta, it's Gambir and Pasar Senen station. Gambir is located right in the heart of Jakarta right beside the Monas, while Pasar Senen located on the east part of the city. Pasar Senen actually serves economy, premium, business, executive, and even the "super executive" class trains. Gambir also serves those classes except economy, and it only serves the "elite" trains. Trains that departs from Gambir are usually faster but pricier in the price tag. Well, I guess that's justified with the convenience of departing from the city centre. 1:09 The coach that you got is actually quite old, but the company refurbished it and put those new seats. The amenities are the same across all of executive class coaches, but there are still few coaches that has no tables or footrests. The coach you got has no reading light on the baggage rack above you. You lose the table, reclining seat, and the foot rest in the economy class. 2:38 You can book the ticket in advance up to 30 days in some websites like Traveloka or Tiket.com (not sponsored). They accept international credit cards unlike IRC's official website or apps named "KAI Access". After you finish the payment you'll get email that has the booking code. Use that code to print your ticket from the boarding pass machine in the station. Spare some time for the ticket printing as the line for the machine can be quite long. 3:34 That footrest's height can be adjusted with that small lever on the left. However, yes it can't be folded to free the foot room. 4:12 Ookay here we go. Like some people have addressed in the comments, the toilets on Indonesian trains used to be horrible. No water, no sanitation system, the drainage system was simply throwing the waste onto the rail track. However, now most coaches has a proper sanitation system with septic tank under the floor just like the one in the video, but the floor drains are still a direct disposal like what you recorded up close there 5:19 All steward & stewardess on the train are capable of understanding simple English phrases even though they're required to be fluent in English, so yeah be patient, don't rush them :) 7:04 What's he doing up there? He is filling the water for the toilet ;) 7:28 To put it simply, there are 3 main train classes here: economy, business, and executive. There's "premium" which is an economy class with better seats, and the "super executive" one, there are few of them: Luxury Gen 1, Luxury Gen 2, Priority, & Imperial. You can search what's the interior like because each one is different from the other. On the these "super executive" class you get more amenities like one free meal, free flow of snacks and drinks, exclusive stewards/stewardess only for your car, entertainment screen (Luxury & Priority only), and lie flat seats (Luxury only). Is it worth it to take the super executive classes? Well IMHO, no. The main reason is the entertainment system which is basically useless. You can find review videos about it if you wanna check. 7:33 There are more trains actually. The other trains departs from Gambir station. 8:39 Yeah trains here usually don't have an enclosed gangway connector, so stepping from one car to the other can be quite scary. But recently IRC put those enclosed gangway connectors onto several "elite" trains 9:28 You can contact the conductor by the number if you need some assistance 9:59 Yes, that is the dining car. Every intercity trains here has that car. Usually they're located in the middle of the train 10:36 Yeaayy finally you meet the conductor on board! :D Oh yeah, one more thing. All trains in Indonesia have a name, so make sure you board the right train Hope you enjoyed the trip! There are other mode of transportation across Java like flying or intercity bus, but for foreign travelers like you guys the train is more convenient, reliable, and affordable in my opinion, so if you're planning to take another train journey here, go ahead! Thank you for reading my essay :D

For >4 hrs trip, better not rely on train food. Sometimes after 4 hrs there's not much food left . If it less than 4 hrs, I usually just buy in the train.
Better buy some super large burger king, or carls, or KFC bucket. And JCO Donuts with their coffee, and two Litre of Aqua. Or just couple of Nasi Uduk, Nasi Padang (saying to the seller you need it "Lauk terpisah semua dari nasi")and 4 bottle of Sprite Lemonade and two Litre of Aqua.
If you are in big city like jakarta surabaya or bali... Better to take airplane. Cheaper and faster than train. The fare of Indonesian train... Well.. Nothing to say...
