Finally, a BattleTech Loremaster that focuses on what's really important, taking firm grasp of key features of the setting and not letting go until, something something butt pun.
I'm glad we could all remain mature and not slip into something sordid.
@@MechanicalFrog can we get a planet profile on Uranus next?
Careful, you can get into a lot of trouble for that sort of thing!
Whoever named this planet is either a madman or a genius
Por que no los dos?
It definitely is... memorable.
It's a butt joke, isn't it?
Or a mad genius!
"Or?"
Hold on to your Buttes, it’s another lore video!
All heck breaking loose.
"Everybody hold onto your buttes!" -Rhonda Snord, probably
Probably one of the most spoken sentences on the planet.
Wait wait wait. The Archon and the Coordinator got in an actual fist fight??? Like knuckles and elbows hitting the other leader of a great house??? That is outstanding! I love it!
All while Marik laughed his drunk butt off.
"Coordinate this, you pompous prick!" 👊
@@MechanicalFrog Ewan Marik has to be one of the greatest Marik's in history. I dare you to find a better quote in the setting.
I RECOGNIZED THE BUTTE HOLD. MY WORK IS DONE.
Yeah but now what do you do with the rest of your week?
A pirate oasis planet made of desert and salty seas filled with shrimp, with buried treasure and ancient magic ruins? Very cool.
What's not to like?
I only learned of Butte Hold a day ago from a friend playing MW5 Mercs.
"Its a 4chan Battletech meme" he said...
And now you know...
Do do do do….
We’re going on an adventure!
Pack your bags, we're going to the Butte Hold!
@@MechanicalFrog can I bring my mechs? 😂
@@MechanicalFrogand we have the best tour guide there is!
100% want to see more of this sort of things. I know so little about the planets and worlds of Battletech, that primers like this are greatly appreciated. Awesome work.
Thanks a lot for giving them a go. I hope the experiment works out.
So hyped for planet primers! Feels like a super overlooked aspect of the setting, and the writers really went wild with some of them. I'd love to see Thraxa come up as another Periphery subject. 1000iq pirate traps and sea serpents eating Taurian royalty, what's not to love?
Yeah I'd really like to do more.
Barbados!!
"How did you get in our car?" LOL
:)
I like hearing about the weird planets in bt. It's too easy to just think everything is earth normal, but then you read a story where they have "eyestorms" and your mind skips a track
I really like planets that are marginally habitable or have some quirky bit to them.
I liked the planet lore. Anytime we get Periphery lore is a good time!
Glad you enjoyed it.
This is an underrated Battletech channel.
Thank you.
Please, Please, PLEASE do more of this!!!
I'd like to. It was quite fun.
Ah, the finest source of Technical readouts in known space.
All the news that is fit to yelp into a mic.
In my days, we called that maneuver a goosin'
I saw this video too early in the morning without my glasses and thought "that butte hold mech looks like a wasp"
That would have been something. :D
wow, frog, i wasn't expecting you to show Butte Hold 😳
The things we do for attention...
Finally a source for information on the planets since you know those help make the storytellers job a little easier. Knowing a little about the planets we can visit is refreshing and I think often ignored by content creators. So thank you for taking the time to work on where the players visit so our tabletop experiences can be that much better.
Thanks for giving it a shot. There are lots of silly stories to tell.
Love it! More of these, pleae and thank you!
Never knew that BUTTE HOLD of all places had so much lore to it. Never seen it mentioned except as "that place crazy old Redjack Ryan pitches his tent".
Lots of silly stories out there.
@@MechanicalFrog I think the area I'm most intrigued by is the 'Outworld wastes.' There's a LOT of formerly settled worlds that have just dropped off the map out past the Raven Alliance. Makes you wonder if they'll start reaching out/ reestablishing colonies
I'm happily along for the ride for any planet lore videos!
Noted. I hope the video does well enough that I can keep going.
I would've loved to see the look on Redjack's face the moment our favorite SLDF-offshoots came a-knockin' on his front door. More of these, good sir! More lore! Pleeaaaaase.
It was a fun script to write. I hope the video does well so I can hop to another planet.
This is gonna sound weird but... Butte Hold makes me think of the Borderlands universe, and Pandora (from that universe) specifically. Everything from a hidden vault, barely habitable system that nobody really seems to want (or they do want it only to get it and realize no they actually don't) and residents who are independent heavily armed, and a little... odd... by regular standards.
They even have had various waves of Bandits to deal with.
As a citizen of the Periphery, we have long acknowledged the need for trade among those "left behind" by the Inner Sphere.
We send these good people as much TP for the Butte Hold as they may require. 😂😂😂
"Please stop using our paper currency as toilet paper..."
The Great Cornholio would approve. No man should be without TP!
Now that's a butte!!
The kind to hold 😏
Who doesn't like a nicely formed butte?
Thanks for the video, MechFrog! I'd appreciate others like it
Glad you enjoyed it! Hopefully it does well enough to justify more.
Maybe I just had a bad week but I actually honestly fell on the floor laughing at "HOW DID YOU GET IN OUR CAR!?"
:)
When the CLANS showing up and taking over your world is an actual IMPROVEMENT to your general populace's lives, that says a lot about the previous "rulers"
Truth.
"By gawd, that's Butte Hold's music and that means business is about to pick up!"
All the micro-krill blocks you can stomach. 5 for the cost of 6. Get them while they're room temperature.
"Things are a little tight this month, Susie, so we're going to to have to get the Mesa Grab Krill Barrels this time."
…. “How did you get into our car? I love it.
MiniMechFrog loved that part.

As a long time fan of battle tech who's red a good chunk of the books.... its rare I see a battletech video that is about something I know little to nothing about.... this is 1 of those rare times where this was all new lore to me! Great video as always frog
Thanks a lot. I'm glad I could provide something new for ya.
@@MechanicalFrog hope to see more like this! Love your more obscure topic videos
I really enjoyed this look into a planet i might never have known about otherwise. I look forward to seeing more planet primers.
I think we'll have to visit another planet soon.
The periphery is my favorite part of the setting. Rough, scrappy, and there is always room for things to happen there.
Loved that new intro music, has some real gravitas.
I found some good music to license so I'm going to use the heck out of it.
I really hope you continue this series! Lots of fun planets with awesome history behind them, and even some planets that few would like to know more of. Like Irece!
I think we're going to have to visit another planet soon.
I really like this video. It's definitely got a lot more meat in it in terms of information on the universe, and following a planet's arc from colonization to the modern day was, honestly, more interesting than following the story of a mech's development. I hope you are blessed with big numbers, Frog, because I'd love to see more of these!
At this point it's not breaking any records but it has proven to be viable content. We will have to visit another planet soon. Thanks for your support.
Very cool and worthy thanks pls more
Different but I liked it. I think its a slice of Battletech lore that does not get address very often and yet it's these little snippets that helps to add depth to the setting. -thanks again.
Exactly. Thank you for giving it a go.
"Those mercenaries were coming out of Butte Hold" lmao
Oh... the little things in life that bring us joy.
Dune 2 breaking records for weekend sales!! Perhaps one day these historic archives might be used to create Mech Movies. Thanks Brother, great as always.
- Godspeed
Thanks for giving it a go.
Awesome!
Wish Discovery and History channel remembered they use to make similar length shows of this quality 35 years ago.
There is only Ancient Aliens now... I don't know what they show.
I just kept thinking of the isle of bute just off the mainland in Scotland when listening haha
kindered spirits, perhaps.
Don't we all love Butte?
You can have so much lore in battletech from people, mechs, planets, and factions any video on the any subject is going have something for someone to like.
True that.
I liked it. Videos that center on the planets covered by the "Touring the Stars" mini-source books seems like a good idea to me.
Lots of fun stories to tell.
you know, you bounce around these maps in the hairbrained schemes Battletech and Mechwarrior 5 mercenaries, and you cant help but wonder "does this burning shit hole actually have a story behind it beyond the paragraph i got in orbit?"
part of the charm of the universe compared to 40k, with its millions of untold anonymous warzones that dont matter unless someone got bored and wrote a backstory or pulled a planet name from one of the books or games.
Yeah some have more backstory than others, but most have at least something interesting about them.
I love this kinda stuff!!! Keep it up Mechfrog! Have some happy brain chemicals and I will do my best to make the world a slightly better place, today, tomorrow and forever forward!
Ah yes... precious dopamine...
Great video! More planetary exploration please!
Thank you, much!
Nice Bit of History for a small Backwater planet, I can only imagine the Scenarios that can be setup for TableTop Battles
Lots of fun for TTRPG or even trad tabletop scenarios. There are a couple of scenarios in the Touring the Stars book.
As a 34th century SnakeShip Salesman, I'm just here for the commercials...
...13/10 , was not disappointed.
Bonus KeelPoints for mentioning DOME, as they are the reason the Periphery had so many independent Regiments in the Periphery. The last great Terran Megacorp, capable of dictating SLDF deployment for personal motives , and of course the original "Sugar Daddy" of the unofficial RCT Division that now operates as the ASP.
I'd say do a bit on False Dawn but we had that planet removed from the charts shortly after the Exodus while we were still on good terms with our fellow DOMEies who stayed behind. (Yup a large amount of famous Names actually served in independent Regiments guarding DOME worlds in the Periphery).
Have Fun&Post Dangerous
-Lakon Marketing Division, Keelback Office -'Only ship in the Galaxy to come equipped with a soul 😇'
DoME is a pretty fun story in and of itself.
Hi frog, I enjoyed this lore video about something other than war and death in Battletech. Please continue to bring us videos like this.
Will do. Thanks for giving it a go.
I like planet primers, give us the lowdown on some of the wildest places.
Many wacky places and stories to tell.
Adored this video. There's not enough focus given to the places in Battletech, and especially in the Periphery. Good on you, I'd love to see more planetary primers in the future.
Glad you enjoyed it!
on behalf of myself and the dogs, who happened to be in the room, we thoroughly enjoyed this narrative and wish to see more like it.
I'm glad that I have some canine fans out there too.
This is glorious
I love, especially, that advertisement at the beginning
"I don't think you'll find any evidence they aren't"
😂
I'd realized I'd heard the Council of Water before when I read Tamar Rising - and of course it clicked even further once Snord's Irregulars started brawling with the ponyboys. There the Council briefly mentioned as a group of monks, but now I get to know how they actually formed. And even though Butte Hold was clearly mentioned, I didn't make the connection back to the Redjack Ryan days that were more famously known. I was trying to glean more about the Republic of the Barrens.
I think this sort of series is going to be really rewarding for people who at best might know about a planet during a particular era of its history. Or enjoy the political and social shifts that underpin the big mech battles the setting is built around. "Not everything in the Battletech universe has to be about war and destruction." Maybe someday the Chaos March?
I appreciate that so many appreciate the value in this. It has proved itself viable and we will visit more locations in the future.
Love the experiment. Please add these to your regular line up!
Cultural and planetary lore is something I could really stand to learn more of
It's doing well enough to justify more.
I love clicking around on Sarna but @mechanicalfrog has a commentary that I enjoy. My favorite example is the required urbanmech vid. 😔
Just finding that quote and referencing it is why I watch. An interesting planet is great for 20-30 mins.
Periphery lore is the most interesting, but not featured often. Love this!
Glad to hear it.
A lore series about famous mercenary units would be fun. Accidentally terraforming is the tip of the iceberg for the whacky hijinks they pull. And units like the Northwind Highlanders, Eradani Light Horse, Grey Death Legion, Kell Hounds, etc. are pretty interesting
Also, it took me entirely too long to figure out that your variant designation 'MF' stood for 'Mecganical Frog.'
I was over here thinking 'This guy's custom work is spicy'
Hah... I'm an angel. Can't you see the wings and halo in the avatar?
Learning about cool and interesting planets like this would be great. Glad you are trying something new and am here to hear more of it.
More to come! Thanks for giving it a go.
Absolutely Great Cannon Video! I always enjoyed reading the obscure histories of the Planets, especially those of the Periphery & very Deep Deep Periphery. . . Thank you, and look forward to more.
Yes I like the this direction of content because Big stompy Mechs are what brings people in, but to continue that I like the planet facts, civilian vehicles and animals of the sphere that are popping up on lore channels.
It's just nice to take a break from the mechs from time to time and do something else fun.
LOVE the narration and humor on this clip, reminding me of Dave Barry's writing 😊
Thank you. My dry humor has been described as an acquired taste...
It is really interesting lore wise to see the BT universe history from a single planet perspective. Please continue !
We visit a very popular planet on Thursday morning. :D
That's a butte of a hold ya got there!
Geologists appreciate a good butte.
Definitely would love more videos covering topics like this
Glad you enjoyed. I hope it has some legs to it.
I didn't know any of this. I love the funny stories at the edge of the Battletech universe.
Plenty of silly stories to tell. Thanks for giving this one a go. Have a great week!
I like the idea of this series, I hope the algorithm teats it well.
There are some crazy stories and planets out there.
It has done alright. Enough to justify another location soon.
Hold my Butte😂
Anyways great video Mechfrog. I really appreciate you diving into the planets. Please keep it going. Maybe throw in a Merc outfit from time to time.
I think it's just about at the spot where I'd be happy doing another.
I liked this deep dive into a world of Battletech.
It is deep dives like this that make the game more than just setting up random maps to blow up big stompy robot s on.
Backstory does matter.
Thank you for covering niche topics. Your battle armor videos helped me find "elementals" to field for the IS.
Thank you for the support. The nonsense will continue.
Long story ahead. Apologies.
So, think way back when BT was played with cardboard standies held up by too-small plastic clip stands. My first faction, chosen by punching out tiny cardboard logos, was the black shuriken/red R of Redjack Ryan.
Yup, I chose to be a Periphery Rat right off the bat.
Others talked at length about Great Houses, but I remained in the Periphery.
Butte Hold came up and it was kind of a running joke.
Decades later, of all factions, I end up proudly Hell's Horses.
And what world comes up again? This.
Absolutely continue this series. I love the depth. I hope to grab Destiny in the near future, so all these gold nuggets of lore are very VERY helpful.
I'm glad I could dredge up good memories. Butte Hold would make a wonderful setting for the TTRPG.
More of this please! It’s so rare to hear about planets and every day lives in the Battletech universe.
Our next planet primer video posts in 1 hour.
More, please!
Will do.
Hee hee. Butte.
Hitting the lore of the places is a great idea!
I for one like this video, I hope you do more of these videos from time to time.
I think we're at a spot with this one that another is warranted.
Yes yes please make more vids with Periphery planets
I'd like to. There are some cool stories to tell.
OK. Opens with a quote from DeTouqueville. Whatever comes after, bravo! 🙂 In all seriousness, when I was first getting into Battletech I wrote up a quick background for a pilot and I decided he was from Muskegon. I did it because I grew up in Muskegon, Michigan. A real place. I had no idea at the time that there was a BATTLETECH PLANET named Muskegon! Years later I discovered Muskegon, in the Federated Suns not to far from Goshen. Which is also a real town, not more than 30 miles from where my wife grew up and I was married. Goshen, IN. LOL So location lore has become something of a fascination for me. I would love it if you dug into Muskegon a little. Its actually quite ancient, goes back to the Hegemony, and has a long and storied (if minor) history. 🙂
I'll have to look into Muskegon... thanks for the support and giving the vid a go.
I really enjoy these kinds of videos. I feel like videos like this are great jumping off points for campaigns.
They could be. I hope I can do more.
The Kinkaid system looks like it's ripe for periphery ghost stories. Right on the very mobile border of kurita and davion, was one of the systems promised to davion in the reunification war and was later completely abandoned before falling back into the outworlds alliance. But I haven't seen any stories actually set on it
More videos like this would be great. There's not a lot of content like these in the Battletech UA-cam space.
Yeah it would be nice. We'll see how this goes.
I like it. I hope you do more planet videos.
Thank you. I hope I can do more in the future.
Nice, I'm liking the focus on planets and locations. Mechs are cool obviously, but the universe is much deeper than just mechs.
Totally agree.
Good stuff. Its synthesis on the sources makes it useful.
Glad you enjoyed it.
I loved exploring Butte Hold with you. I hope you do more of these and enjoy the happy chemicals.
Remember, if you do it, the proper name of the planet should be Buenos No Aires instead of Buenos Aires. Every time a campaign of mine touches that planet something goes wrong and I am to the point where I think they shouldn't have oxygen privileges on that planet any longer.
I'll keep that in mind.
Cool vid, like seeing things others dont cover that add flavor
Glad you liked it!
Office Space reference in Battletech! Great video! I would love to see a series on interesting planets. There are so many.
OfficeSpace is one of those movies I've seen a thousand times and still laugh at every line. Thanks for giving the video a go. More planets await.
I would like to see more of this kind of video.
Me too. Hopefully, it'll do well enough to justify it.
That was a great video it's nice to see new content in the Battletech universe. Because after all, running round in big stumpy mech is fun, but it's also nice to know what planet you're stomping around in. So I'm eager to see more.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Yeah, this is good stuff. More please.
I'd like to make this a series. We'll see.
I now imagine MechFrog rehearsing this script a dozen times until he nails the pronounciation of the planet's name without slipping in a butt here or there.
Remarkable self control on my part.
This was fun, entertaining and informative!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Loved this video and will watch any future video that digs in to other non combat lore aspects!
I hope it does well enough to keep the planet series going.
Good one, its nice having some focus on the planets themselves now and then. Usually its all about the nations themselves or planets like Solaris or Outreach.
Thank you. Plenty of wacky stories to share out there.
I have to say, I love the planet focused vids. You vids are good regardless, but these are truly unique, and I appreciate that. Good on you.
Thanks a lot. It did well enough that we're going to visit another planet soon.
It touched the Butte!
You'd think some entrepreneurial local would make a killing making t-shirts and hats... but alas, no one wants to visit for the holiday.
I enjoy your videos brother. Keep'em coming 🌌🌠🌌
Thank you so much. Have a great week!
Loved the planet history.❤
Glad you did. I hope to make this a continuing series.
We're looking at planets now? Awesome! I need to know where I can refuel my Savanah Master when we inva- um, I mean go on vacation!
It would be a good planet for a hovercraft...
