For me this is the best version of Leon. The voice, the looks, those fantastic facial expressions...they have outdone themselves here. He is also more human than a cartoon character. You can tell that he's been through hell but that didn't broke him yet.
I absolutely love how well this game uses body language and facial expressions to convey emotion. It's especially apparent with Leon. During scenes such as after he kills Krauser or when he finds Ashley and sits next to the bed while he waits for her to wake up, you can really tell how much the weight of everything is starting to get to him. The scene where Ashley is almost forced to shoot Leon is another excellent example of how impressive the motion capture is. You can see how terrified Ashley is, and how they're both desperately trying to fight off Saddler's control. These scenes are so well done. It gives you such a clear idea as to what the characters are thinking and what they're going through without them needing to say a word. Games like this are a perfect example of why I prefer third person over first person, especially for story games. Third person captures emotions that first person simply can't. It makes the scenes far more impactful.
yeah that scene where she had to shoot him was fantastic! for the most part it was pretty good, i just hated how the dialogue would play during sequences. i HATE that. their mouths arent even moving! how are you gonna get a shotgun to the face in the middle of a story.. and continue talking? re4R is still one hell of an accomplishment, though. im just nitpicking because the original is my favorite game ever
One addition to this is a small detail I love: Leon’s reaction to the environment Rotting corpse? He recoils and wretches at the stench But my favorite is when he goes out into the rain he’ll stick out his hand, look up and groan. It’s little details like that I enjoy
With Doom being the exception. You don't even need to see his face for him to display the rage that's boiling up inside him. The beginning of Doom 2016 is an example. The tremble in his hands when he cracks his knuckles and then destroys the console
@@eigelgregossweisse9563 Not really tbh. The cheese is still there, it's just now mixed with more serious stuff and it's more horror focused compared to the OG. Like, for example: Leon feels like someone who's on a mission and not Dante from DMC but without all the demon powers.
I love the way Ada affirms Leon is still Leon. I also love how she genuinely looks disheartened when Leon says "I think we both know this is where we go our separate ways." Their interaction depth is 10/10
Finally people are starting to notice that in the remake Ada actively wants Leon to come to her but he chooses not to. In the remake version Leon can very well move on from Ada. So considering the fact that capcom said we should treat remakes as different from original games like Alternate universe versions. I think for remake universe I want someone better for Leon. I don’t think Ada can ever give him a happy ending that he deserves. As she is even more manipulative in the remakes.
@@LegendaryTalesandTrails she's manipulative with good intentions though, just like in the original series. While the dynamic is different it still has the heart of the original concept of the dynamic between the two. Please look again at how Ada upon hearing what Wesker is going to do with the sample is the literal antithesis of what Leon wants to happen again ("hundreds will die so that ten may live"), she holds the gun to the driver and changes the course. It is shown throughout RE4R she *_actively_* wants to respect his wishes but keep herself somewhat at a distance as she wants to keep Leon safe and still have that somewhat-trust they share, while still completing her mission. If anything, I think this is a fantastic modern interpretation of the classic's relationship. It shows how experienced Ada is at her job while still showing that she does indeed care for Leon. And Leon, while suspicious of her, places his trust in her skills ("she's not the type to go down easy"), knowledge ("Ada the walking Encyclopedia"), and hopes for her to come around (speedboat scene). And the best part is? In the speedboat scene when she avoids answering his question two (maybe three?) different things are happening: One, obviously dodging the question to keep Leon's trust. Two, implying to the viewer (y'know, people who've played RE2R) that she's cared about him back then as she does now (and we *_have_* seen that in RE2R). Three, intentionally or not she basically implies that she will have her change of heart (the one in favor of Leon) at the end of RE4R. If you dislike her modern version, I can respect that. But I think the relationship is going to be more or less the same. It's just both Leon and Ada are going to act like the professionals they are while holding the same hopes for eachother.
i appreciate the efforts they made, but i guess it is all about taste,... By taste i mean, their taste in designing the flows of the gameplay is lacking details that usually makes things more lively.... Yes, The movements more fluids, higher fps motions, smoother texture, etc. But leon doesnt feel like the leon everyone knows. They did a good job, but this is just how their taste feels like in presenting a story... Nothing at fault, nothing is wrong, just not right in the feels of some people...

Exactly. I think the motion capture, cinematography, and attention to detail is the best I've seen in a Resident Evil game so far. How anyone can deny the effort that went into this game is beyond me.
Only the hardcore nostalgists call it soulless because Leon isn't a cheesy 90s action hero anymore. This game is great in its own way and people's short attention spans nowadays have no appreciation for detail.
It's funny because the original re4 is pretty soulless, they made leon into a generic shell of a 80s action hero who spits quirky 1 liners and shows no emotions. Now they actually gave the characters personalities and a heart

"Where's everyone going? Bingo?" Glad they kept Leon's snark in there even with this scarier atmosphere. And it's pretty exciting how they still showed the title card after Leon said that, but now with a more epic angle than the awkward overhead zoom out.
I'm very glad they specifically left that one in. Kennedy's an Irish-American name, most likely from a Catholic family, and he'd have grown up in the 80's and 90's. Based on my own childhood in the same era, the older ladies he knew would have three things in common: dyed-red hair, impeccable aim with a shoe, and an all-consuming addiction to bingo.
They did a great job with this remake. Honestly the best improvement imo is Ashley. She’s no longer annoying and dumber than a door nail. Also the fact she sounds like someone in their twenties now too. I actually like her character a lot now! They did a great job of making her more of a person than cargo like the original.
@@mioruki She is 20 confirmed, according to current canon. However I remember reading somewhere she was meant to be 17 originally. That's why OG Ashley sort of looks, acts and feels like a teenager; she was meant to be one. IIRC at some point during development the devs realized that the romantic subtext that short of follows her and Leon around (who is 27 in re4) would not sit well with western audiences and they added a couple of throwaways lines that confirmed she was quote-unquote wink wink 20. The remake however does try to make her twenty in both looks and acts, which meh. You could argue that she is properly 20 years old now. Depends if you consider the OG or the remake cannon. Take your pick.
its interesting how the aspect of change seems to be a recurring theme in this game, Ada and Krauser say how Leon didn't change despite him thinking he did, Leon coments on how the world changed and wonders if Ada changed too, and Luis wanting so desperately to change to redeem himself of what he has done, with even his finals words being him asking Leon if he thinks people can change
Capcom REALLY knocked it out of the park with these cutscenes, and I'd bet they brought in actual movie industry people to direct the cutscenes. For example, just look at how much expressiveness is in Ashley's face. The way she silently looks at Leon at 42:19 with subtle amazement after he catches her jumping from the third-floor church window; you don't need any dialogue to know she's thinking: " _Who DOES this? Is this guy a superhero?_ " Now that's what I call S-Rank quality filmmaking. Hollywood could learn a thing or two from this.
There are so many moments like that in this game, and I love it. I love how this game uses body language and facial expressions to convey emotion. It's especially apparent with Leon. It gives you such a clear idea as to what Leon is thinking and what he's going through without him needing to say a word. I also love the scene where Ashley is almost forced to shoot Leon. The motion capture is so impressive. The way you can clearly see the terror in Ashley's eyes, the way the muscles in Leon's face and neck tense as he tries to fight off Saddler's control. Games like this are a perfect example of why I prefer third person over first person, especially for story games. Third person captures emotions that first person simply can't. It makes the scenes far more impactful.
The general plot is the same but there are slight differences here and there to keep players on their toes, be they new or veteran. Overall, it's meant to be more "believable" by today's standards such as Saddler remaining in the background until the final scenes, Krauser having more reasons to go renegade, Luis Sera being a little more untrustworthy and Ashley displaying deeper character when fighting her fears and mind control. Makes a more engaging story than the more action-oriented original game.
I'm glad you specified 'by todays standards' because most people fail to realize that the campiness of 2005 was because it was the trend of that era, and just diss on the original
@@billybro1403 RE4 was the game that brought the RE franchise out of the 1990s and introduced a new action system that was used for about a decade. There are video game franchises that now have histories spanning a generation or two! The producers have to tailor their video games according to the times.
I don't think Adas new voice is great but I also don't think it's anywhere close to as bad as some people have said. I think it's because the va in re2r did such a good job.
49:00 see that? Of course ganados will never give up, they definitely can beat luis and leon for real and finally they admit that they are loosing so they neee to run away. One of The thing of why this changes makes the remake version is best remake game. I love it
When leon in the castle section Ashley says that leon could use the knights armor as a bulletproof vest this is a reference to the original resident evil 4 where Ashley gets a Knight's suit as a outfit that actually blocks bullets
Actually, you can get Ashley's armor in the remake, too. The way to get it is a little hard, since you have to complete the game in a harder difficulty under a certain time frame (so wasting time in a pause screen while making lunch is a no-no). I feel like, by then, you're good enough at the game to not need it, but still. For the lulz, right?
The dialogue between Leon and Luis at the mine cart section (1:47:19) is quite the nice homage to the speedrunner community as in the original game, it was possible to completely skip that part with the use of a glitch. Very nice.
@@blueflare3848 It’s at 1:47:19 Leon: “You’re not suggesting we ride this thing.” Luis: “Do you see any other way?” It’s subtle but does reference the fact you could skip the mine cart completely in RE4O but here, there’s no way to skip it at all.
@@slimballs9650 That would be hilarious but sadly, patches now exist. They’ve already resolved some speedrunner finds such as clipping through certain doors. If someone found a minecart skip, that would get fixed in a matter of weeks.
Leon: Sees giant mutant alligator casually swallowing entire boat with people on it. Also Leon: Proceeds to jump on to rusty boat with little to no fuel left, to get feeling of that breeze in his hair.

@@lperseusl the old one is good but can you explain the hate behind her new va. I get that she doesn’t sound like old flirty ada but that doesn’t make her bad
Yeah, the developers thought that would turn off new players given how she was in the original RE4 (sometimes being emotional can be good and bad). Games from the 80s to the early 2000s were better with heart-to-heart conversations. Now it's all about the visuals versus much deeper interpersonal connections just to increase the hype of the action, etc.
@@SolidAvenger1290 I think The Last of us part 2 and Red Dead Redemption 2 would be good examples to bring up from the modern era. Although sometimes too much walking

The only thing we need is more Regenerators and whatever those things are with the Wolverine claws. Those dudes were pure nightmare fuel. Otherwise, the spinning roundhouse kick never gave me so much joy until now.
Thank you so much for this cutscene movie. I really enjoyed watching it through and it's getting me excited for resident evil 5 If they remake, I'd love to see Chris and Sheva again and hopefully they remake 6 as well.
i would like to think part 5 would be code veronica mixed with a little bit of umbrella chronicles, just to show what wesker has been up to ever since the gamecube remake and also explain how he bumped into ada in the first place. then when it switches over to the code veronica portion. you see chris eventually reunited with claire and then have sheva involved with the story. either meeting up chris for the first time or on a mission to find/rescue him too. letting us players know that he and sheva already have history before the game begins. just like leon and major krauser's histories. both in the original and this current remake the players are shown and are mentioned to that both have history before starting gameplay.
Dude, he seriously need a raise. For all he being through to save Ashley, that above even the most expert spec-ops out there. Maybe consider a career change would be good too
Dude you have the absolute best cutscenes on youtube, been following your channel for awhile, it’s literally like I’m watching a movie, never stop making these!
I love how this experience makes Ashley want to be better, become an agent, instead of a spoiled damsel in distress. She comes a long way, most hard men would break down and cry. And they say video games are hard on the wamen. I'd say she's a badass.
"Guess your tapdancing days are over", man you gotta love Leon, in the middle of the boss fights and all the other ones for that matter, he still manages to crack jokes, and did I just also see Ada doing the batman's hoodiny trick? 😂
It was very vaguely alluded to in the first release. It seems like a major objective of the remake was to make a lot of relationships and plot connections explicit.
I didn’t want to pay for the game because all I want is some Leon cutscenes. I also didn’t want to watch 12 hours of "boring" gameplay with no commentary. Commentary would ruin the atmosphere though. Then I thought maybe just the cutscenes will do, and found this absolute masterpiece. Thank you so much! ❤

There are actually animated movies so I’m not surprised tbh
There are so many moments like that in this game, and I love it. I love how this game uses body language and facial expressions to convey emotion. It's especially apparent with Leon. During scenes such as after he kills Krauser or when he finds Ashley and sits next to the bed while he waits for her to wake up, you can really tell how much the weight of everything is starting to get to him.
I liked how he repeated his line “This time, it has to be different” at 2:34:58
That post Ada did on the helicopter at the end... Whoever animated that scene knew exactly WTF they are doing and what the audience wanted to see.
It's resident evil, baby.
So sexy. Ada made sure Leon saw it but I’m glad we all did too lol
I completely agree with you.
I don't think Adas new voice is great but I also don't think it's anywhere close to as bad as some people have said. I think it's because the va in re2r did such a good job.

Very nice.
Which dialogue?
@@blueflare3848 It’s at 1:47:19
Leon: “You’re not suggesting we ride this thing.”
Luis: “Do you see any other way?”
It’s subtle but does reference the fact you could skip the mine cart completely in RE4O but here, there’s no way to skip it at all.
@@SquareXero
Imagine some speedrunner finds a way to skip it anyway. Oh the irony.
@@slimballs9650 That would be hilarious but sadly, patches now exist. They’ve already resolved some speedrunner finds such as clipping through certain doors. If someone found a minecart skip, that would get fixed in a matter of weeks.

I really liked Ashley in the remake, I wish Leon and her had more of those heart to heart conversations thoug

7 as well?
then 8 as well ? lol
Waiting for Code Veronica
i would like to think part 5 would be code veronica mixed with a little bit of umbrella chronicles, just to show what wesker has been up to ever since the gamecube remake and also explain how he bumped into ada in the first place. then when it switches over to the code veronica portion. you see chris eventually reunited with claire and then have sheva involved with the story. either meeting up chris for the first time or on a mission to find/rescue him too. letting us players know that he and sheva already have history before the game begins. just like leon and major krauser's histories. both in the original and this current remake the players are shown and are mentioned to that both have history before starting gameplay.
They should remake RE Village

At first I was worried Leon wasn’t going to have his signature fighting knife, but they made a whole subplot about it! I should’ve had faith.
It was very vaguely alluded to in the first release. It seems like a major objective of the remake was to make a lot of relationships and plot connections explicit.

Holy Cow. I can't believe this just got released. The Resident Evil games had a profound effect on me growing up. First one I ever saw was a demo of Resident Evil 2 being played right when it was first released , at FuncoLand (back when those were around). I remember asking the guy playing if the first Resident Evil game was any good. He immediately put it in and started showing me, and I was hooked. The remakes have really been great and I am so glad the developers have kept the integrity of the originals without alot of "modernization"

I will only talk about the cinematics of this game in my opinion this is so far one of the best Resident Evil, the original game had such a deep and captivating scenario, with amazing lines for characters, I have a preference for original voices but I like the new ones, the village and Castle + Krauser's story would be crazy in cinema adaptation
