I got to see him play this in Huntsville AL on Friday! He had the entire thing memorized!!!! Got to meet him afterward and he was gracious enough to sign my program. His performance was one of the most stunning things I have ever witnessed.
it's absolutely amazing ! the Chaconne is my favourite piece, so if I'm frowning while listening to it, that means you've got me !!! congratulations !!
I am absolutely just "blasted back" every time I hear Bouriakov play. His genius is the most extraordinary phenomenon. Awchen Horoshaw, Bouriakov. Bolshoi spaceebaw! (no Cyrillic alphabet on my tablet keyboard)
Truly wonderful and thrilling - I too often go to your site to listen, and still remember the disbelief with which we heard it at the BFS in 2006. A hall can never have been so still, so completely transported. Douglas Brooks-Davies
Anyone else care to take a crack at conveying the counterpuntal line while playing the melodic line on a Boehm flute? Bouriakov isn't only a flutist--he hears the music as nobody else can! I feel 'touched by an angel.'
BRILLIANT!!! Not terribly difficult technically, but to bring out the musicality and make the piece flow and make musical sense is a different story. I LOVE this man. Absolutely INCREDIBLE!!
Dear Denis plays really in an extraordinary way, much poetry, sound, intensity, technique...top level "one of number one", the arrangement is done very well but the Chaconne for violin is another song.
Hey Denis, It’s very interesting and impressive. I usually hear this partita with Itzhak Perlman and I love this Bach’s composition. At this part which starts at 5.55 is great. It is almost “polyphonic technique” just like at violins. Congrats!
@sormu16 most people hear that the lowest C on flute is the same lowest C on the G string of a violin. For my ears, that lowest C of the flute is the same low C string of a viola... maybe im crazy
are chords shown as solid chords on your music? or grace notes? cuz i saw the transcription and I would imagine its very difficult to read on flute O_O AWESOME JOB
Presuming Denis did not get back to you...your teacher is more important than your instrument...and do work at practice...play your scales and chords beautifully! best of luck.
Yes Denis you are right! In g minor is much sweeter, soft...the music can be more meditative! And in D minor it´s to high...it´s very difucult to keep a good embochure in the transcription in d minor and the intervals sounds not very natural as in your transcription. So, than I will send you my recording of this piece (in d minor), than you tell me what do you think. Thank you by your reply. You do a great job! Best regards. Pedro.
Gee, raanan17, you don't have to get upset... I wasn't making any anti-Semitic statement. Au contraire, I think jewish musicians have proven to be the best players and teachers in the world. So I wish you well in your 20 lives.
@bouriakov you actually bring it down a fifth, not up a fourth! flute has the same range as a viola.. it should be written in C clef, not in G. or a G clef an octave below. Scores, as they are written, are for the picollo range, sounding an octave below.. and most flutists have never realized that! anyway, you could buy a flute tuned in G and play that in D minor too :D do you play picollo too? and about your videos.. i LOVE them, ive been hearing you play this piece for the past 3 days
@ericoschmitt > you actually bring it down a fifth, not up a fourth! This flute version is up a forth compared to the violin version, which is the original instrumentation. Score sheets are written so they help the player to the easiest read. Their existence should hardly be used in claims that higher frequencies "are down"? In your (interesting, BTW) considerations of how the _flute_ frequency relates to scores, you simply forgot to also consider how the _violin_ frequency relates.
The flute is Strong with this one.
Amazing interpretation.
Imagine Bach had a player of this quality around him on a modern flute to compose for!!Bravo.
And here I thought I was original playing this piece on the flute at home! He blows me out of the water!
I wish there was a way to "like" this 10 times. Well done! Breathtakingly beautiful. JSB would've smile!
I couldn't find any word to say...
He is a real genius
Denis is legendary!! He is pushing the limits of the flute. Reminds me of Paganini!
I got to see him play this in Huntsville AL on Friday! He had the entire thing memorized!!!! Got to meet him afterward and he was gracious enough to sign my program. His performance was one of the most stunning things I have ever witnessed.
My favourite piece ever, by my favourite flutist ever. Perfection.
Magnifique sonorité, et quelle superbe interprétation !

Really beautiful playing. This is by far Denis' best performance. Bravo!
Truly wonderful and thrilling - I too often go to your site to listen, and still remember the disbelief with which we heard it at the BFS in 2006. A hall can never have been so still, so completely transported. Douglas Brooks-Davies
wonderful.
@navarroflute Thank you! But unfortunately it doesn't work on the flute in D minor, it sounds too high. Prefer to bring it up a fourth, not an octave.
I think G minor is much better for flute :)
Anyone else care to take a crack at conveying the counterpuntal line while playing the melodic line on a Boehm flute? Bouriakov isn't only a flutist--he hears the music as nobody else can! I feel 'touched by an angel.'
Style and stamina. Superb combination!
The best!

Not terribly difficult? Are you kidding?
Denis, In this, you really outperform anyone.
I love your Chaconne (and I often went to your site to listen it!!!)
i think the only possibility left is to play chaconne with drums, congratulations for this magnifique yet incredible performance, and for the idea ...
"shibui" , tasty sound, wonderful !
Beautiful performance Denis!
many thanks,
John
Ridiculously Amazing!!!
Magnífico. Maravilloso. Perfecto. Sublime.
Превосходно!!!
Dear Denis plays really in an extraordinary way, much poetry, sound, intensity, technique...top level "one of number one", the arrangement is done very well but the Chaconne for violin is another song.
Absolutely stunning!
incredible !!!! wow are you kidding me? a flute can do that? what an amazing player.
Bravo!!! Good sound. It's perfect for Bach.
Maravilloso. Intenso. Bello. Expresivo. Sutil.
exelente gran interpretacion!!!!!
wow....wow.........
It´s wonderful - thank you very much!
magnifico!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Amazing arragment! did not think it sounds so good in flute!

Amazing ♥Lacrimoso but warm sound
Beautiful! Is your arrangement published? And if so, how do I order it? Thank you.
Beautiful :D
Fabulous!
Wonderful.
@jazzflutist
you can down load an arrangement for flute from IMSLP.
you can find it at Google "chaconne hideo kamioka"
Bravo Denis, very good..good entonation, colors dynamic.... very nice!
But I prefer in d minor.
Exquisite!
brilliant! 😊
Denis Excellent! the tempo its really good. I heard another version in A minor but I prefer yours. Very good work.
Bravo Denis!! You should arrange tchaikovsky's Violin concerto, it would sound beautiful on the flute.
not a violin, as you can understan, but really god!!!
are chords shown as solid chords on your music? or grace notes? cuz i saw the transcription and I would imagine its very difficult to read on flute O_O AWESOME JOB
I've only had one cup of coffee so far this morning but I wonder if a Bohem system flute could be made at baroque pitch say 415 or 392?
It could, but its uncommon so it'd be expensive, plus most performers who play at historical pitch would prefer a historically accurate instrument
Wonderful bravo sir. Do you have any tips for a flutist like myself who is soon to be getting an intermediate flute
Presuming Denis did not get back to you...your teacher is more important than your instrument...and do work at practice...play your scales and chords beautifully! best of luck.
👏👌👍
@ilshatt That's what Schuman said about the violin edition!

Arpeggios! o.O ! =~)
Beautifully arranged and played! But why is the last section cut off?
Brilliant considering the limitations of the instrument.

Супер!❤
I can´t believe it, impossible..
I hear Autumn Leaves in there...
@bouriakov
I disagree, Bach works even in using the pans of your kitchen....
i wish i had this sheet music :/
not real. outstanding!!!
Walker Edward Clark Steven Davis Jason
He transcripted Heifetz’s interpretation of the arpeggio
imimedwinchan There are versions available for free floating around online.
sorry to bother you but Denis Bouriakov isn't jewish
Tatsache, dass wenn es dir nicht gefällt, alles umsonst war ;-)
Nobody heard that you wrong a note @2:11... I'm not a flautist but its nothing to see with arrangement, its just a wrong note.
