I didn't know these used to be better. I just got one of these and am sending it back because I couldn't walk with it and record a decent video in the early morning. It worked fairly well for stable shots in full daylight but that is about it. It was my first camera so I don't know the differences well but 4k hardly looked any better than 1080p.
I ordered this and really hope I get the old version. Shady to call it the exact same model when the chipset is so different it should have a slightly different name like V50e

It's good enough for me I think, even though I haven't tested it out for my intended purpose, which is metal detecting It's more of a mount issue but from a quick test, I have to adjust the camera angle every time I go from standing up to kneeling to dig and vice versa, and since the screen turns off I have to press the red button first, so I can see the screen to adjust the angle, so that's a little bit annoying, perhaps a chest mount would be better than a neck mount, I can't use a head mount every time because sometimes I wear a head lamp, also I don't know how to make sure the head mount angle is proper, since I can't see the screen on my head I also have a clamp mount, I could put on my backpack strap as a sorta makeshift shoulder mount, I haven't experimented with that yet
V50X is ok i would say the best buget action camras are the original osmo action cam and the brave 6 plus are much better than the V50X i will say the imgae is was better befor they did the software update the original software gave much better image quality and stability thank you for this review

having had the older model i had to replace it ended up with this pile of crap my new one does not have EIS on slow motion video and does not have 4k only 720p and 1080p, im now trying to send it back to amazon for refund as it was listed as 4k, sadly i wont buy Akaso again
My only major complaint with this camera is that all of the videos I take with it when transferred to my MacBook have no audio during playback. If I transfer the same files to a PC I have audio.

Do you recommend the stabilizer ON or OFF for taking screenshots from indoor videos? I am a home inspector and often take screenshots from my body-worn camera.
I'd normally say having it ON will help with it being less shaky so that the screenshot would probly turn out better looking but sometimes having it ON can look worse in low light situations. Would definitely suggest using it with a light maybe to help improve it indoors. I know it would be hard to see in an attic for sure. Hope that somewhat answers your question.
That's a shame, looking for a cheapish action camera for recording cycling & mountain biking footage. The performance in a shaded area really rules this one out. Any suggestions of cameras to check out would be greatly appreciated, really hoping not to spend GoPro prices!

@@timsguitarmods yeah most action cameras dont perform well indoors with low lighting, specially the cheaper ones. Action cams perform best outdoors on sunny days, but If i had to use one indoors though id probly go with the dji action 4 since it has a better image sensor or maybe a gopro.
I bought mine ~2years ago and I would not call it GoPro alternative. Video quality is not comparable. Akaso V50X is only a medium video quality camera in my opinion and not even touches the GoPro.
Hello, well said for the camera! I have mounted the akaso v50x 2023 on my helmet but I cannot seem to get a decent video.. the camera only records motorcycle's dials and not the road.. do you know how and if I can widen its POV? Is getting GoPro going to solve this?
I think there is an angle setting unless that was only the older version. Check your settings to see if it has it set to the widest angle. Getting a gopro will give you a wider angle view for sure. I recommend the gopo hero 8, as it is only $179 at the moment.
The Sjcam Sj8 pro I think is a much better option than this Akaso camera. It shoots in much better quality, has a better eis, and chipset. Its currently on sale for $102 on Amazon if use their discounts. If looking for something cheaper though let me know. Hope that helps

Yeah, the v30 was also changed. Its even worse than the v50x now. Yeah V40 would be better, that or the sjcam sj8 pro which is currently on sale on Amazon. Has a much better chipset. Currently $102.

Yeah, Akaso doesnt give any type of firmware updates available for download. Most smaller brands dont. You’d have to buy a new one to get it with different firmware if you have an older version.

Honestly I have given up on Akaso recently because the factory that makes them changed most of the chipsets to a cheaper chipset, making the quality not as good as it once was. I've been recommending the Sjcam sj8 pro since it has a good chipset and can shoot a native 4k60fps. Sometimes it goes on sell for around $90 on Amazon, which is a great deal considering how much clearer the quality is. Hope that helps.

It really sounds to me like the old version is better. I just got one and my is the old version despite the change happening long ago.

These are great budget action cameras but for about $400 a DJI Action 4 with Mic 2 is a really good combination.

How to update?
The new version has been updated by the company/factory. No updates i know of are available for customers to download.
