    Thank you so much for your video.
    It’s February in Pennsylvania. I’ve been getting a few lantern flies in my kitchen on my kitchen window and the floor beneath the window. I watched your video. Before I got a chance to mix the solution, I noticed a few on my kitchen window. I had Dawn power wash spray and Windex with vinegar on my counter.
    Because they were on window I sprayed them with the windex first When they dropped I hit them with the power wash spray. ,that killed almost immediately. I figured out they were coming up from gap at woodwork under window. possibly were getting up under the siding in the back of my house and coming in that way. I mixed your solution and sprayed under baseboard where there was a gap and pushed paper towel with solution under gap in baseboard. Haven’t seen one in kitchen since. Now to tackle under siding beneath window. I have a small dog and wanted safe way to treat them.
    I read that they only live 48 hours at room temperature. Not sure what that means.

      Glad to hear it’s working on them . If you decide that you need to use this on plants outside because of an infestation, you do not have to add the vinegar. i’ve been using just half water and half dawn dish soap since I made this video and it works just as well without turning the leaves of the plants yellow. Maybe it takes an extra five seconds for them to go down without the vinegar, but they still go down. Thank you for watching.

    We live in the Rockaways NY. Last summer had some lanternfly that we killed. But this spring we had to treat the yard. We tough it was some kind of mosquitos until my son checked. Our bushes, Grape vines, fig trees were infested. Thank you for your DIY idea. I am sure that they will come back as soon it rain again.

      Hey, thanks for the comment. I’ve since eliminated the vinegar in the recipe and doubled the water. So one part dawn to two parts of water and it still kills them. The vinegar was definitely browning the leaves a little more than I liked so then I tried a one-to-one soap and water and it still yellow the leaves, especially tender new ones just a little so now I use the 2 water to 1 soap ratio.

      Thank you. Just FYI, I recently eliminated the vinegar because it does brown leaves somewhat especially on new spring plants. Now I just do a dawn and water mixture, two parts water to one part dawn, so if you get the big jugs of Dawn it’s 2 L of soap to 4 L of water, it does less harm to the plants leaves and still kills those little suckers

    Thank you. If you want to lure them in to an area, they really like the heavy maple sap on our driveway. So you might have some luck if you take some and water it down and just spread it on a flat paved surface. And that way you can see them to kill them.

    i dont have them in my yard but we do have them pretty bad at my office in the parking lot. I think they are attracted to a certain tree (maybe poison sumac?). Will the vinegar destroy or kill the trees and bushes?

    • @nelsonfelixoutdoors6095
      @nelsonfelixoutdoors6095  7 місяців тому

      The vinegar will yellow and brown a lot of the leaves. It will not kill any well established trees or bushes. Since the initial infestation, I have now been using a much more diluted mixture without the vinegar. Just one part soap to two parts of water, and it kills them just as well with very, very minimal yellowing of just some of the tips of some young leaves. The initial mixture was to get rid of the thousands I had so I didn’t care much about yellowing leaves at that point. I started spraying the nymphs early summer soon as I saw them with the 2-1 water/soap and now everything is under control.

      Yes, as soon as I make a new video, I will delete this one. I now only use a 2 parts water to one part soap mixture. I’m not using the dish soap on any vegetable or fruit gardens that I would eat. This is just on trees and shrubbery where the bugs prefer to be in. If you’re worried about the dish soap, then use Castile soap, it’s all natural and chemical free. With such a huge infestation, you only have two choices, store-bought chemicals that are pure poison or soap that you wash your dishes with and eat off of. I’d say the soap is pretty safe but again use Castile soap if you are worried
