Well, if it helps, the origin of the word is faulty since the "alpha wolf" of the pack in the book where the term debuted turned out to just be the dad of the other wolves. And humans never followed a system like that, making all use of "alpha" and "beta" male terms seem ignorant.

This is pretty cool because like you said, names tend to get a resurgence so the very recent top names will likely be the names of the next big actors, athletes, UA-camrs, any jobs that give you more fame at a young age. Then the next generation will likely include a lot of names big from the 1920s and earlier, which will possibly be the kids my children will see at school and you can follow the names back up the decades until around a century when 2010s names start getting back into fashion.

About 20 years ago, I produced a web page that was somewhat similar, but just showing all the names that ranked in the top ten for any year 1880-2000 (later updated through 2003). One of the most interesting observations was that two names reached the top ten in 1880 and 2000 (Sarah and Elizabeth), and Emma reached the top ten a few years later. Adding more quantitative data is interesting, though I think I would rather have seen names listed according to either 5th or 25th percentile. Something like Sarah may have reached its peak of popularity only recently, but it's hardly a new name. It might be nice to have a chart with an alphabetical list of names and a whisker graph and perhaps a log-scale popularity chart to the right. Is the data more nicely available than it was when I did my project?

Well, if it helps, the origin of the word is faulty since the "alpha wolf" of the pack in the book where the term debuted turned out to just be the dad of the other wolves.
And humans never followed a system like that, making all use of "alpha" and "beta" male terms seem ignorant.
We are kind of the "smallest in the big guys group" and alpha generation is THE "biggest in the small kids group"

This is pretty cool because like you said, names tend to get a resurgence so the very recent top names will likely be the names of the next big actors, athletes, UA-camrs, any jobs that give you more fame at a young age. Then the next generation will likely include a lot of names big from the 1920s and earlier, which will possibly be the kids my children will see at school and you can follow the names back up the decades until around a century when 2010s names start getting back into fashion.
Only knowing somebody’s name tells something about their birthday. Obvious but interesting.

About 20 years ago, I produced a web page that was somewhat similar, but just showing all the names that ranked in the top ten for any year 1880-2000 (later updated through 2003). One of the most interesting observations was that two names reached the top ten in 1880 and 2000 (Sarah and Elizabeth), and Emma reached the top ten a few years later. Adding more quantitative data is interesting, though I think I would rather have seen names listed according to either 5th or 25th percentile. Something like Sarah may have reached its peak of popularity only recently, but it's hardly a new name.
It might be nice to have a chart with an alphabetical list of names and a whisker graph and perhaps a log-scale popularity chart to the right. Is the data more nicely available than it was when I did my project?
