    Thanks for the cleaning tips.
Here is what the Instant Pot manual for the Duo says on page 51:
    • Wash after each use with hot water and mild dish soap and allow to air dry, or place in top rack of dishwasher. • Remove all small parts from lid before washing. • With steam release valve and anti-block shield removed, clean interior of steam release pipe to prevent clogging. • To drain water from the lid after dishwashing, grasp the lid handle and hold the lid vertically over a sink, then turn it 360°-such as turning a steering wheel. • After cleaning, store the lid upside down on the cooker base. • Store sealing rings in a well-ventilated area to decrease residual odor of flavorful meals. To eliminate odors, add 1 cup (8 oz / 250 mL) water and 1 cup (8 oz / 250 mL) white vinegar to inner pot, and run Pressure Cook for 5-10 minutes, then QR pressure.

Most welcome and I find that lid can be kept in the dishwasher which I haven't tried so far.

I spoke with Instant Pot rep who advised this so I tried it and the sealant ring still had the same odor.

I enjoyed your video and I am so disappointed in all of the rude comments. I have not tried your method yet for the Insta pot, however, I have tried it in the microwave and it works like a charm. I don’t know why I did not think of it to begin with. Perhaps some of the commenters just did not follow your clear and easy directions. Keep doing what you are doing!

This is a great suggestion. -running a cooking cycle with a lemon and vinegar. I will try this. It's interesting that the instant pot manual claims that you can wash the pot lid in the dishwasher. I tried this (although on the top rack of the dishwasher). The pot lid was ok BUT the silicone ring did retain the smell of the last item that we had cooked.

I found soaking the sealing ring overnight in house hold vinegar dish soap and baking soda and some water got rid of the smell, i do this whenever i'm making meat or currys. You should never wait for the smell or stain to set in before cleaning.
Cleaning Vinegar is also strong and will get rid of the scent within 4-5 minutes.
If youre just making soup you can just wash with soap.

Something else I thought of, a brown paper lunch bag to store the seal in may help detour smells.

Thanks for this tip! So I did an Instant Pot no no and forgot to clean the sealing ring after the meal. It was really late at night and I made lamb ribs in it. LAMB! You can imagine how that that ring smelled the next day. So nasty. After trying this tip I can now smell lemon, vinegar, and a hint of lamb still. However, it is considerably a lot less strong of a lamb smell. I hope this lamb smell will leave if I repeat this process a few times. Thanks a bunch and I have now subscribed.

Most welcome and glad to know this video helped. You can also wash the lid and sealing ring in the dishwasher keeping them on the top rack ( even though in the video I'd mentioned lid is not dishwasher safe, read the IP manual and it says lid is dishwasher safe).

i thought that using 2 cups would be excessive for a steam process so i used alot less and my ring still smells so using 2 cups must be important

I just started using my IP. I've made two dishes so far - chicken and sloppy joes. I take everything off of the lid and clean all of the parts in hot water w/ Dawn soap and it was ok after the chicken but it smells so gross of sloppy joes. I was excited to try your method in my Duo Mini 3-Qt but unfortunately it didn't work... The sloppy joe smell is still really gross on the sealing ring. I will try to put it on the top of the dishwasher but GROSS. Help :(((((((

    • @thasneen

Sealing ring can be washed in the dishwasher- try a few times should work. The lid is also dishwasher safe, however I shy away from throwing the lid in the dishwasher don't want the valves to be damaged. You can also buy additional sealing rings & can be used for savoury dishes. Hope gets better :)

Last night I cooked corned beef and cabbage, 1st time using a Instant Pot Duo Nova, then cleaned/scrubbed/soaked all the rubber parts in Dawn/hot water. That took a lot of the smell out, but still smelled. So, the next day I noticed your video and tried what you suggested. Still smells like corned beef and cabbage. I did change up your recipe a little. I did 2 cups of white vinegar and "one whole lemon" sliced up then did the steam thing for 3 minutes. Still smells. Help!!!

Manual says you can keep the lid on the top rack of the dish washer. If you have a dishwasher try keeping the lid & sealing ring in it. I try not to keep the lid in the dishwasher. Sealing ring can be kept in the dishwasher. Hope this helps.

@@thasneen Thanks for the reply. I'm the dish washer. I have a small kitchen. I have washed/marinated this ring 5 major times. I even left it outside in the sun all day. It seems nothing works. It's hard for me to imagine that a company that makes a kitchen appliance that even after major cleaning stinks up your kitchen. I've only used this pressure cooker once, it’s brand new and it seems the cooker works OK, but the ring baffles me, driving me crazy!

The ring & the stainless steel pot are dishwasher friendly, you just have to throw them in the dishwasher. If you cook in the Instant Pot on a daily basis, try this method once in 2 weeks to get rid of the odor & stain. Also good to buy an additional ring.

Is this every time you do after cooking. It is totally waste time because of this smelly sealing ring and the instant pot not worth it even is faster but it makes very worst in kitchen.

    • @thasneen
      @thasneen  5 років тому +6

Not after every cooking. Can be done once or biweekly or even monthly. Depends on the kind of food you cook in the IP. This applies to all the appliances you use in the kitchen, if you don't keep it tidy it will stink. If you haven't cooked in an Instant Pot, you can't come to a conclusion that it's not worth it.
