I've had a Pan Am since March 2023, I ride pretty much every day and I really like it. I have changed a few things. I have the low screen, with a small extension from Amazon, and I don't get any buffetting around the helmet, it works much better than the tall screen. Modes, I run 3 custom moded, as you can edit the Dirt+ mode, I run the same power, throttle and engine braking, and just vary the suspension, TCS and ABS, and have one with the ride height disabled.
Man , I got to say , can’t wait to see what you end up doing with it. Pretty excited to see this one. I’ve been wondering why there aren’t many , if any builds with this bike.
I will be watching for your redo on this machine . Just subscribed. Have a 2022 PAS since new now with 17,000 trouble free miles of commuting , touring and corner carving. Love this bike. I am amazed everytime I look down and see "Harley Davidson" Still cant believe that they did this but so glad that they did. Awesome all around machine. If one bike is all one could have this is certainly one of the mutipupose machines to choose from.
Right on man, looking forward to seeing what you have in store for it, I like the way it looks right now, but interested in seeing what you might come up with, I actually added Harley's heat deflector that mounts onto the motor behind the radiator fan, I just went down south for a week, and I thought it helped tremendously
I just found out that they came out with one. I more or less and the same idea just wanted to do a more Shapley version that was attached to the back of the actual fan shroud
@@thecutrate1 something custom might work better for sure, I was just thinking about it today while riding and I thought it helped here in Ohio and it was damn warm today
I have a 2021 Pan America (non Special) that I bought as soon as it hit the market in May 2021, I had a few electronic gremlins at the beginning but my dealership took good care of me and since they did the starter clutch upgrade last fall I haven't had an issue of any kind. I did a 4000 mile trip around Lake Superior in August and it the bike was rock solid, that included a two days of 17 hours and 15 hours respectively in the saddle. The only thing I don't like is the seat, I think I will get a Corbin over the winter. For the windshield, try riding with it in the middle position, the high position actually tilts the windshield toward your head a bit more than the middle position. I'm 6'2" and that works perfect for me. I have just under 11,000 miles total on my Pan America now and it is closing in on being my favorite bike in 36 years riding. Ride safe out there.
Yes, they definitely are great bikes I had a feeling it would be my trip definitely confirmed that for me. I think once people give it a try they will be hooked like we are.
Sold mine after a year. Couldn’t stand the resonance of the air box, the heat, the seat, the windshield and the starter dragging. Traded it back in after 1 year for a new Road Glide ST. Love the ST. Just picked up a mint FXR3 that I’m going to mod. I really liked the power of the PA. It handled great, good brakes, etc… just couldn’t live with the “issues” any longer. Ride safe. 🇺🇸
So I just switched from a Harley Road Glide Limited to the Pan America so I can have more road options on trips. One thing I’d love to hear is the chain maintenance you did on this trip. My XC rides are typically in the 4-6,000 mile range. This is my first chain driven bike so I’m new to all the cleaning and lubrication required. Thanks for the great content.
Definitely don’t get as much life out of a chain, like you do with a belt, but with proper tension and lube they last a while. I’m probably not the best with remembering my scheduled maintenance. 😂 to many bikes to keep track of.
I’ve got a ‘21 S model with 10,500 miles and this machine makes me stupid every time that I throw my leg over it; this motorcycle is amazing! I’m running the +3” H-D windshield at the highest vertical position; 1 slot before the last, and the cockpit environment is exceptionally good. I also run the tallest H-D accessory seat to take some bend out of the knees while on the road; I’m 6’0”, with a 32 inseam. I’m also running the H-D +2” risers. I don’t connect to the PA infotainment. I run a Garmin Zumo XT and a V1. My headset is paired with the phone, GPS and V1…this setup works well for me. FWIW, the V1 is mounted via quad lock w/vibration damper. I could run at 100 all day long without jonesing for taller gearing. I run a set of highway pegs that I found from a vendor that focuses on the GS crowd. They will fold out of the way if you take a spill off road without causing peripheral damage. The only real issue that I’ve had with the PA is with the starter drive; it always works, but sometimes I have to fuss with it. I look forward to checking out your future PA content.
I have a 22 PA - Some questions - 1. what seat do you have on this bike? 2. Is it a REACH Seat? I also have the kickstand troubles. I wish I could have a seat that would allow me to reach the floor (Flat foot, without the use of the lowering suspension option.) the the kickstand would not bother me. I did my first long ride on this bike in the summer Houston to Vegas thru MOAB and it was awesome*(3,300 mi), to me, this is the perfect bike. I just wish I could FLAT foot it.... Looking forward to the updates you'll b e doing on your bike. Ride Safe....
@@thecutrate1 Since its custom, any idea what the Hight will be? specially with the Suspension Hight Adjustment off_ That will help with the kickstand issue. Thank you.
The seat..how much??I want to change my seat and iam going with Harleys 2 inch risers..they had one on a trade that had risers I believe it's was ROX brand..but they were approx 2 inch and the position was much more to my comfort zone..iam 6foot 2.iam just a fair weather rider..do not have the health to do a ride you just did..but still really love my bike..i had a 21 ultra limited and it did the same thing with the phone..it would ring..i?'d answers but never got connected..
I’m still working on the seat with Saddlemen (if you send them an email or message them, put some pressure on them it might help get them done faster!) haha. +2” on the riser is definitely the way to go. Have it more pull back seams to be a good thing.
Just curious, why are you rear brake heavy? I am only rear brake heavy on precision maneuvers, where I drag the rear brake, along with working the throttle and friction zone. Little more rear brake off-road. Otherwise, as weight shifts forward, the front brake is where it’s at, as you have less traction on the rear.
When I started riding I was riding a lot of chopper with NO front brakes, and I also use to flat track race so I tend to set up for turns and use the rear brake (not exclusively) but maybe more than the average rider does. Old habits die hard. 🤷🏻♂️
Got it. If there is a motorcycle program in your area that offers braking clinics, I would definitely recommend bringing in your Pan America and going through the course. You’ll be amazed how fast these bikes can stop. You can even practice straight line braking in a parking lot at 30, 35+ mph and it’s safe. Smooth and progressive on that front brake and get down into ABS. Unbelievable!
My PanAm assembled in Thailand has been towed back to the dealer 4 times and now is on it's 4th battery, 2nd starter switch module, 2nd fuel pump, valve train makes horrible noise below 3500 RPM, chain rattle in motor when at idle and hot. It is a piece of junk.

Thanks. It really is a good bike, I think when this build is done and a few others, people will see more potential in the Pan-am .

I feel the same way. I’ve said it before but it’s a Swiss Army knife. It does it all. 👍

So stoked to see this build progress.
It’ll be interesting to see what your “fix” is for the heat.
going through options, will have follow up video soon
what brand windshield extensions did you go with and did they make a difference ?
Any idea if the bareknuckle rear brake set up might do weird stuff to the ABS system?
Not that I know of. I haven’t run it yet though. I know they have and haven’t heard of any issues.
Just caught your video, do you still have the PA?
I do still have the PA ( well it’s on tour with H-D right now.) I won’t have it back until after Daytona .

I hope to be… not yet though. I’m trying to work out the details with Saddlemen.
Nice to hear from someone who's road it a bit.....lol
👍🏼👍🏼
Who did your seat?
I shaped it, stitched up by Saddlemen. Hopefully going into production.
That is the exception not the rule.
