    All of the arguments against fighting in the NHL could be used against boxing or MMA. They, too, are doing irreparable damage to their brains, but nobody speaks out against those sports. It's part of the game. The players want it there by a vast majority. Get over it. Contact sports will always yield injuries and undesirable consequences.

    • @JJJJ-gl2uf
      @JJJJ-gl2uf 5 років тому +2

      If you can't see the flaw in your argument maybe you've had a few too many punches. MMA and boxing are all about fighting, that's what those guys do. Hockey players main job is to play hockey, not fight. I grew up playing and watching hockey, but as an adult I've now seen what the fighting does to some of these players, and I don't see it as anything to cheer about any longer.

    I agree. I think fans who like the fighting too much are barbarians. Fighting is not an essential part of the game and many leagues do not tolerate it at all -- even the highest level, Olympic hockey. The NHL needs automatic suspensions for fighting to stop it. We do not need to be treating athletes -- that is, human beings -- as if they are arena bait for the amusement of an audience of sociopaths.

    The NHL is already becoming very soft and that's to bad...instead of catering to the die hard fans that have kept the league alive all these years they are trying to make it this soft shell of itself and that is a very sad thing to see

      What does it say about the game (and the fans) if it can only be profitable if there is a fistfight in every game? Shouldn't the NBA and NFL have enforcers too? They seem to make do with personal fouls and penalties, and last I checked those leagues make billion$.

  • @gutts077
    @gutts077 10 років тому +3

    It's a slippery slop. The only way to truly take fighting out of the game is to take body checking out too and if you do that the sport will suffer greatly and the money will go from it. Don't mess with it, trust me

    With all respect, nobody is forced to do this or that job. Its freedom of choice of every individuality. Where would these guys make so much dollars doing this? For 2 - 3 season he makes so much that ordinary US or Canadian family will not save up for century. So its conscious choice, its dangerous, its risky business, they know. I would say its about not stepping over the edge, like ok, I have made good money, is it still worth it for me? What can I get and what can I lose if I keep going?

  • @VioletDeliriums

    11:46 Bruins fans are some of the most barbaric people I can think of. It's not that they don't have a talented team, i is that they take pride in the fact that they have a team capable of fighting. It is sad that the NHL lets them get away with that. One would think that after an event like the Boston Marathon bombing that they would have learned that violence has serious consequences, but I don't think it will ever sink in to their minds.

    hockey is a sport for players who can learn their roles well score goal and become great players it isn't a boxing match! when will the nhl learn the affects of what it does to the brain. it is the nhl who should be held accountable for their actions. in hiring players with the ability who can play a fair game and score goals it isn't about these head pounding brawls

    love the game of hockey and have forover 40 yrs but after watching what these enforcers go thru I'm not sure it's worth it for them. Guys are so much bigger than back in the early 70's and these guys career can and are ending in one fight one punch. They have to live life with all the damage thats been inflicted on them. To me thats not a trade off for such a short career making large amounts of money.

    lol they over exaggerate the injuries yes the concussions are serious, especially when hitting the ice with the back of your head...but they talk about a broken nose or a broken cheek bone like these guys went into cardiac arrest or something

    • @WALOWALOWALOWALOWALOWALOWALOW
      @WALOWALOWALOWALOWALOWALOWALOW 9 років тому +6

      youre an idiot. the point they are making is several concussions and always getting punched in the skull will lead to minor (best case scenario) to major brain damage over time. if you really think getting punched in the head 100+ times a year will have no effect on your overall and long-term health youre even dumber than i thought.
      and they never really over-exaggerated any injuries. they never said how bad a broken nose was or anything, and the only reason they briefly brought up the broken cheek bone is because the dude needed 4 metal plates in his face and it changed how he fought and how he played the game

    Anyone who thinks hockey needs fighting to be exciting, or that fighting is just part of the game must have taken a few too many punches to the head themselves. Some of the best hockey that's ever been played has been international hockey - going all the way back to the 70s when NHLers first played the Soviets, the Canada Cups, the Olympics - where fighting is almost non-existent. I'll take that hockey over the staged dramatics that these enforcers engage in night after night.
