Lily in Copenhagen: Take a crash course in Danish culture with Lily Collins

- As Lily Collins tackles the many nuances of French culture (to varying degrees of success) on our screens in Emily in Paris, our latest digital cover story reveals that her heart truly lies in Scandinavia. Well, Denmark, to be specific. Here, Collins joins Emil Glaser, head of Juno Bakery in Copenhagen, to learn the ropes of becoming a true Dane - hygge and all
The best place for anyone to start their Danish cultural education? A cosy bakery in Copenhagen, of course. A crash course in Denmark's key phrases, arguably nonsensical counting system and ubiquitous cycling culture is not complete without a side of rødgrød med fløde, et jordbær, et hindbær and et brombær, and most importantly, en kaffe med havremælk.
Join Lily Collins as she dons an apron and steps into the kitchen of Copenhagen's Juno Bakery where the magic - of the cultural kind and the baked goods kind - happens.

Im actually kind of impressed by her pronunciation. It sounds like a Dane after maybe 10 beers, but still good 😆
yep XD
A Brit supporting FC Copenhagen, big slap for England 😂
As a danish teacher teaching native English speakers - Lilly killed it - especially the numbers!! 👏🏼👏🏼
Love Lily’s love for my country 🇩🇰❤️🥰 Im impressed with her pronounce of very difficult words 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🎈🤩🥳🥂❤️
She’s moving to Denmark soon… I can feel it!!!!!! WELCOME Lily!!!!!
Emily in Copenhagen ✨
Lily, you did so well talking Danish! 👏🏻 Compliments from a Danish Lily-fan 😉
Dayum ... She absolutely kills that "Hej, jeg vil gerne bestille en kaffe" sentence :O
We look very much forward to Lily moving to Denmark. She'll have a blast here :D
OMG, I just love her, and I love her love for my country. 🥰
She’s amazing, such a genuine soul
impressed by lily’s pronunciation! but also…who is the delish chef? asking for a friend
My husband is from Denmark and this video motivates me to learn Danish 🇩🇰
Your husband and his family should have been your motivation to learn Danish 💀
As a Dane this is so entertaining ❤️
i absolutely adore this woman 🤍
Her saying tak skat to the waiter is hilarious
Yep, that is a bit off .... But on the other hand, in England you'll often hear "You're welcome, luv".
I get why 'skat' seem like it means 'darling/love'. But basically saying 'thanks, baby' for bringing them the menu seems a bit overkill hahhah
Or I would translate it as "thanks honey" "thanks sweetie" it's definitely not appropriate for the scenario, which is what makes it so goofy haha
@@brianna3275 yeah, I know some use ‘skat’ in a more endearing friendly way! I have only a few friends who call their friends skat, but for most it’s very much reserved for a partner. But it comes down to how ‘open’ you are as a person, I think 😌
@@MontyDK1 that's in England though, huge cultural difference there :-) You would never call a waiter "skat" or any other stranger in Denmark without getting weird looks haha
It sounds really corny, but "skat" actually means treasure. Although, it is our way of saying darling.
It also means taxes😅 but in the context of calling a person that, it means treasure.
It's not the only corny expression in our language. When we say boyfriend/girlfriend in our language, we say "kæreste", which means dearest.
I think the word kæreste sounds super romantic haha maybe that’s just from my German point of view where we only add MY to friend to indicate boyfriend or girlfriend
I love that she was like, "yeah it's so embarrassing, that I've been pronouncing it wrong, by saying "higey". Now I know, that it is actually "hugge", when both of those pronunciations are wrong XD But I mean, danish is not an easy language, and she wasn't too far off
We have some really weirds Vowels, and pronounce of those vowels. Odd how she can say Cykel though, but struggle with Hygge :)
omg, as a dane, this is so fun to watch! she did pretty good aw
Do a Emily in Copenhagen. I would so die and go to heaven.
Her danish is so impressive tho damnnn
Red is her color
Tak skat! ♥️
Charm overload!
I love how folks are “OMG I’m sooo impressed” to begin, she’s a actor and if you know a thing a script reading is that a good actor with a coach can learn ALOT. I’m sure she had someone coach her on this well before the interview. I
she's just like Emily fr
i love her omg
I know that her dad speaks pretty good French from living in French speaking Switzerland for decades now.
impressive how much she can keep talking. Very bubbly character
Lilly the Danish Princess...
ONG How is she so good at danish?!!!
She talks better danish than swedish people lol, She is so charming when she speaks danish : ).
I'm from Denmark, and let me just tell you, that it is not usually that sunny.
Juno bakery is the best bakery in Copenhagen!
I looove this
I just love her ...!
So impressed! Welcome to Denmark xoxo
OMG I'm from Denmark 🥰🇩🇰 and u are very good 👍 😍
Hold $#!t, her pronunciation is amazing! She'll pick up Danish like *snaps fingers
Love thiss
Try to ask for smoked trout 😉
In Danish it's "røget ørred" and it probably the most difficult thing to pronounce. 🤗 You're welcome
I love Lily , she is so good amazing actress and i love all three season of Emily in Paris. Just begin Lily
No idea who she is but she’s very engaging
Enjoy your stay in Scandinavia!
Danish is not an easy language. But she did good 👍
she sounded so Swedish when she said 'skål' the third time
De gjorde hon verkligen haha
Hun er så skøn! ❤❤
Elsker hende!
The letter Y in Danish is pronounced as U in French
So fun.
Omg the baker ❤❤❤❤
Pretty close to German - especially the fruits ;-)
Where is the red dress from? Beautiful!
Cute couple❤
GET HYGGE! Ny tattoo til mig 🤣
Here is how you pronounce “y” and “ø”.
Ø: say “a” as in “day” while purse your lips as when you say “oh”
Y: same as ø only you say “e” like in “me”.
Hopes it helped
mmmmmmhh i think that just complicates it further. i don't think anyone can learn æ ø å y when seeing it in writing. they have to hear it 😄
One smart cookie she is
Try this tongue-breaker "røgede ørreder" ... :D
Is this Emily in Paris?
Still feels like she is Emily Cooper to me
This was cute
Cute video but I find it a bit ironic that she’s learning Danish from a Swedish guy tho 😅
Woow
lily's fascination with denmark is funny to me. like WHY ? how... is her husband danish. what happened 😄 yes i am a dane... and i personally don't get the attraction to our country, but it's super cute she loves being here.
Whyyy tho?
TAK SKAT
Hookah, i was like what???? Ahh hygge 😂 thats why i shouldnt have subtitles on
OMFG
She looks like a berry in that blouse.🍓 Is that an Emily outfit? Hmmm...
I have apparently never heard her as herself before, because I assumed she would have spoken with a British accent.
Summer in a bite….because that is the one and only bite of food she consumed all summer.
haha nice
The fact that there is no danish person included in this "danish" video, is kinda weird
I've never understood why people have such a hard time pronouncing stuff correctly, when i have never had trouble pronouncing anything in other languages, and if i am not sure i look up how to pronounce it.
Jordbaer по-русски будет значить ЙОБАРЬ.
so funny she chose danish i thought this was a joke
hahahhahahahhahhahahaha :-D :-D 😀
Just like our Prince Henrik from France, her Danish accent i horrible. We Danes are never content with anyones effort in Danish language skills, unless they are 110% perfect.
yeah, I was actually very surprised to read comments from the danes that she did great.... XD I mean, she's trying for the first time but the pronunciation sucked.... why say she did great??? I don't get it.
@@sandianavegana As a start from a beginner it is rather okay ...
flot
you're beautiful but yet I still need to turn down on your rye bread with cream
Hello, girls of Copenhagen and Denmark. I turned twenty-five three years ago, and I have not been married yet. Is anyone interested?
And poor
Jeg har aldrig set en mand være så presset😑
Came from the Juno bakery page and for the tarts. Didn't know the annoying girl until a couple of minutes ago.
what did you possibily find annoying about her?
This is about as offensive to Danish culture as Emily in Paris is to French. Half of what they say and show in such a short time is completely wrong
lighten up
@@carokat1111 I'm fine, but maybe they shouldn't make an introduction to Danish culture and then make a bunch of statements that are just not true and a bit absurd. Like, what they are eathing is not even rød grød med fløde, not even a tiny bit close. Maybe they should just stop being lazy and actually get to know a tiny bit about the cultures they portray
@@niklaszeniusjespersen7323 100% i totally don't care that much, but totally agree it's very lazy.
@@niklaszeniusjespersen7323 I just assumed it was another fine dining modern reinterpretation of rødgrød med fløde, although I suppose red berries and cream are so common in pastries that there's a danger that one could erroneously call anything containing them a reinterpretation. I can also see how it might be confusing to anyone unfamiliar with it, especially after translating it into English as a kind of porridge.
However, maybe you should complain to the bakery, because it seems like they're the ones calling it rødgrød med fløde.
Holy shit, snowflakes from the west. You know what you need, some major war incidents and the rest of the world showing your culture and your nation through the lens of a terrorist or a savage or any other negative connotation. Plenty of examples out there. -.-
The more I read dumb stuff on the internet the more I want us all to go into a nuclear war so that people understand what real problems are.
