My personal experience is that I have better recovery after a long ride after I started on my low carb diet.

As a metabolic health practitioner and sports coach some observations if I may:
Trials on athletes for intense high level activity use people who are not fully fat adapted so I question the assumption that carbs are required at all. Indeed this has not been my experience. Full adaptation can take several months. For me personally it was 10 months. Increased power to weight ration with no drop off at extreme levels of short or medium activity 2 to 20 minutes.
Lipids: High LDL is not detrimental to health apart from small dense or oxidised LDL in healthy people. A high HDL - Triglyceride ratio is. There is no correlation between atherosclerosis and high LDL. On keto, HDL and LDL normalise base on the individuals metabolism.
Salt: Those in ketosis do not retain salt due to low insulin levels therfore dietary salt is essential.
Ketones via dietary saturated fat are our natural and preferred method for energy supply. Autumn fruits would have historically increased body fat to see us through the winter. Insulin (amongst many other things) is our fat or energy storage hormone. Therefore a low carb high fat diet is optimal for human health. Supplements are unnecessary unless the soil has been depleted in a specific nutrient.
Other excellent sources of ketogenic information in addition to Jeff Volk: Peter Brukner, Tim Noakes, Paul Mason, Malcolm Kendrick, Anthony Chaffee, Bart Kay, Stephen Phinney, Eric Westman, Bret Cher, Nadir Ali, Philip Ovadia, Gary Fettke there are many more.

Being in a fed ketogenic state is our natural state. Ketones are required by our huge brains. Our problem is ketogenesis by the liver is too easily blocked by costantly eating sugars and starches. Your liver will always make all the glucose you need. You do not need to eat any. Any you eat is extra causing a problem of storage and disposal for the body leading to disease and obesity. Your liver will make all the ketones you need too if you let it.

      Also blocked by excess protein.

Some people argue that ketones are the primary(preferred) energy source for the body and glucose is a secondary source.

Humans need both glucose and ketones.

@@petercyr3508 Many Drs and PhDs here say there is no need for carbs in the human diet. I believe they know what they're talking about.

Save money on transportation and get healthy exercise. Ride a bicycle to school, work or for fun.
Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles. Safe protected bike lanes and trails are needed so adults and children can ride safely. Speak up for bicycles in your community. Bicycles make life and cities better. Ask your local transportation planner and elected officials to support more protected bike lanes and trails. Children should be riding a bicycle to school and not be driven in a minivan. E-bikes are bringing many older adults back to cycling.

Just take Niacin at night and you'll wake up in ketosis. Waking up with a sharp mind is the best feeling ever.

Most elderly people have problems getting up off the floor. As a child you spend a lot of time on the floor, adults do not.
Doing yoga / stretching exercises on the floor can improve balance, mobility, flexibility and the ability to get up and down..
Just getting up and down to the floor in a controlled manner is difficult for many older adults.
Play with your children on the floor. Bend over, get down and pull weeds in your garden. Play with a pet on the floor.
The more effort you make to work on balance and flexibility will pay dividends as you age.

I am aged 65 and regularly get smashed into the floor as a full time judo coach. Full carnivore diet and extremely strong, fit healthy. For people with a less active lifestyle I totally agree.

E-bikes are not healthy. The motor is electric and the cardiovascular system is not stimulated !
