David Thompson is one of the most underrated players in bball history. I'd say Moses Malone as most underrated. Especially with ABA added to it, dude has the stats and accolades to be a top 10 player.
@@nebulousbastrd Best rebounder of all time with Rodman as well. In regards of offensive rebounds by a landslide the best ever(tho pound for pound ofc Rodman).
David Thompson is not under rated. He's under appreciated and under advertised by the NBA. And sadly, many folks think these players careers began with the NBA. Nope. These guys started making a name for themselves in high school and with the technology since the 1970's, many are spotted by the NBA while in High School. Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard, Moses Malone and Lebron James were all making noise noticeable to the NBA. David thompson, like Wilt Chamberlain, was a game changer. The way the game changed under Wilt also affected Jabbar. So if Chamberlain hadn't altered the game before Jabbar, Jabbar would have changed the game similarily. For one, dunking was taken out of the college game for a time because of Jabbar. And as a game changer, in international play, the Russians got the alley oop banned for a while. A person catching the ball had to land back on their feet and jump again to score. That was all because of David Thompson. With the exceptions of Jabbar, Earvin Johnson, Lebron James and Chamberlain and two to four others, some of the GOAT candidates discussed today have an impressive NBA resume but not an impressive career resume.
@@olzt100 Yea bro, virtually nobody of the newer gens talk about David Thompson nor does the media ever do it either. He's thus both underrated and for that reason under appreciated. Same for Moses, Erving and a couple others who both had MVP's and/or titled titles in the ABA before the NBA merger which of course were never accounted for.
You ought to do Glen Rice Junior (not his dad!). GRJ is an A-Tier goober and people should know this! Amazing player. In the few moments his demons cancel each other out, the dude has the hops of a small-forward, the upper body of a power forward and the UNCONSCIOUS scoring of a clutch shooting guard. Then he goes back to his regular self and tries to kill his team-mates...
If my research is correct, Jordan also pledged the same fraternity (Omega Psi Phi) as him as well. Jordan really did a Kobe style mimic job, but greatly superseding him.
The major difference between David Thompson and Julius Erving, George Gervin and Michael Jordan was accuracy. Thompson rarely forced up bad shots to get his numbers. The game he scored 73 points, he hit 28 out of 38 FG attempts. Seventy three point -six percent is an insane number for the people who could easily shoot more than 55% like Wilt Cahambrelain or Kareem Jabbar taking more than 25 shots. It took George Gervin 49 shots to make 63 points. When Michael Jordan scored 69 points he made 23 out of 37 FG. That was an oustanding 62%. But it does not compete with 74% shooting. That is likely the highest FG percentage for an NBA player that is under 6'8" and scored more than 60 points. Kobe Bryant was 28 of 46 for 61% when he scored 81 points. For their careers as pros, . Thompson shot 51%, Jordan 50% and Bryant 45%. Erving, at a three inches taller also shot 51%. Current star gaurds Stephen Curry and Chris Paul are shooting 47% for their careers while Damian Lillard is shooting 44% for his career. Notice how the reality of shooting does not match the perception of fans. Because of his outstanding range, most people consider Curry the best shooter in NBA history. But the truth is he's likely the most spectacular and clutch long range shooter in NBA history and not the best shooter in NBA history. Accuracy is different from amazing. But people erroneously link the two.

But you have to factor in the volume of shots that Curry has taken in the 3 which you can say was efficient and accurate for that size.
