    I love my Enduro because it seems to last for weeks and weeks with regular training.

    The 965 came out suddenly right after I bought my 955 Solar. I put on a screen cover instead of buying Sapphire, but the cover isn't awesome. Garmin's Running Power is too unresponsive (relative to Stryd) to be useful, and their support of Stryd has diminished causing a LOT of frustration with integrations, alerts, etc. I upload music files via Garmin Express from Apple Music, which allows me to play music files on the watch-- essential for me since I use these playlists like a metronome. Battery on 955 Solar (in cloudy conditions) with everything on and going will last around 6-7 hrs, so you have to plug in a battery bank for longer races. I use a Lokeke charger dock for this, but USB-C on the side would be much better. The Stamina is useful but is hard to use in a race. I finished NYC with 25% left and I wish I could have known how I was doing in the middle of the race. Great review, Matt!

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  7 місяців тому

      Yeah, the FR965 was a little bit of a surprise considering the 955 was so recent!
      I haven’t glanced at the power numbers because I’ve no way to interpret them. Stryd just makes power easy!
      As far as stamina, were you running all out at NYC when you had 25% remaining?

    • @eric-running-to-chamonix
      @eric-running-to-chamonix 7 місяців тому +1

      @@its_Matt_B_ Definitely not all out. Not even close. I think Stamina works pretty well but the screen with distance left means you have to calculate, which is hard in the latter part of a race (actually it's challenging at any time). It would be better if you could input how far you plan to go and get a green/red relative to that. Also the distance left doesn't work if you are going to a new distance. I'm sure they will improve the interface and choices around Stamina but now I find it difficult to use.

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  5 місяців тому +2

      Hmm, my bet is that you're already convinced. You're already in Garmin's ecosystem, so you know what you're getting. The FR965 is ultimately the most advanced running watch you can buy. Yes, you could go with the Epix or Fenix, but those are substantially bigger. The FR965 gives you all the features you want even if they're not a "need," but who really "needs" a $600 running watch? That was a rhetorical question; YOU need a $600 running watch! You work hard and you deserve it!

    I use the same watch and I miss my previous watch 955 solar, it's bad not to be able to do sports on a white background, the biggest disadvantage is that the inner screen is always black

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  7 місяців тому +1

      Is this your only issue with the FR965? Do you like how bright the screen is otherwise? Have you looked in the IQ store for watch faces/data screens with a white background?

    • @erdig547
      @erdig547 7 місяців тому +2

      In general, I found the 965 model very unnecessary after the 955 solar, not being able to select satellites like in the 245, not being able to use glonass or galileo satellites, my personal opinion is that the new generation watches do not measure the data accurately. I have bought and used all kinds of products up to Hrm pro, while running 5.30 pace on the 245, it can average 6.00 pace on the 955 or 965, so I do not believe that the new generation watches measure the data accurately, on the 955 we could choose black or white on the back screen, but on the 965 this option was completely removed, it was said that the white color consumed the battery quickly.
      @@its_Matt_B_

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  7 місяців тому

      @@erdig547 Interesting about the newer watches being less accurate. I haven’t noticed, but it sounds like you may pay closer attention to your speed while running than I do. I mainly look at my data after the fact.
      The white background using too much battery makes sense to why they did away with it on this version.

    • @therealchickentender
      @therealchickentender 6 місяців тому +1

      I looked at both and wound up with the 955. Had used Coros MIP displays previously and have had a Garmin Venu 2 with AMOLED for quite a while. In general I don't really miss the AMOLED - it's a watch and the screen is just eye-candy and the shiny feeling wears off. Always on display, white activity background, better GPS battery performance, etc etc. I understand the appeal (obvs I still have the Venu) but if I kept one, it'd be the 955.

    You haven't mentioned about one problem with Amoled display. It has Always On Display during activity, but the screen can't work with consistent brightness. It dims after max. 15 second to the low level. You have to wake it up by the clear gesture. It is not a problem during slow run., but when you fight at 95% HR Max in sunny weather it is annoying. That's why for races I'm taking old FR 255.

    You convinced me! I am going to upgrade from the 245 to the 965. Does the 965 predict your lactate threshold? if so, do you find the value accurate? or do you manually input this? I have a question that you may be able to help with regarding navigation. If I'm in a city I haven't been to before and know the street and house number I need to reach, can I set it on my watch, or can I move and zoom in on the map on my phone and try to find the place and click it as a destination? Can I also use my phone to enter an address and send the destination to my watch?

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_  6 місяців тому +1

      I have been clicking around trying every which way to do this and it appears like this cannot be done immediately from the watch.
      After a quick search there does seem to be a way to do it via ConnectIQ apps, but it seems very convoluted and not worth the time or effort if you have a phone with you.
      The navigation features work with a course that is loaded onto the watch or by searching the area you're in and providing a fairly extensive list on points of interest.

Buying for buying sake because it's new and shiny and materialism is just getting out of hand. I understand your job is to review (promote) these things so for you it's essential people keep buying but I think we consume far too much and really don't need it. I mean, it's almost becoming a trend to have to have the newest version and these companies are dictating that time (12 months?). Too much imo. Don't think it's about excitement. I bought a second hand Fenix s and it's doing me just fine. Thanks.

      @@EvilestGem I actually agree with you 100%. I review products but I don’t benefit financially in any meaningful way when people buy, so it makes no difference. You’re right about materialism and people wanting to upgrade just because there is an upgrade available. In reality, I use this watch everyday and don’t use any features that aren’t available on a low end gps watch. The AMOLED screen and training metrics are nice, but in no way do they rise to “need” status.

      @@EvilestGemI have just purchased the forerunner 965. Turned up yesterday. I already owned a Smartwatch, a galaxy 5 Pro. I sold my Smartwatch to CEX. If people didn't buy new and sell their old stuff you wouldn't of been able to buy your second hand fenix. If someone's got the money to spend I see no problem in spending it on whatever you please.

    Don’t need to watch this video, it has maps, lack of weight and accuracy! Sold!

      I hear you! I don't always like to watch a video that is going to sway me to buy something want but don't need. But I would also argue to myself it is actually needed...

      This one is ‘so needed’ I bought it few months ago and I can’t imagine using anything else now, I have had Apex pro’s vantage, Fenix, pacer pro, ace 2, all great watches but this is by far the best watch for me
