SHE IS SO FEMENINE AND BEAUTIFULL WITH A VERY RARE CLASSY,SOPHYSTICATED MANNER OF STAGE PRESENCE... VERY RARE THESE DAYS... REALNESS IS PRICELESS... ALL THESE YOUNG SINGERS THESE DAYS NEED TO LEARN FROM HER,BIG TIME...
. A1 performance. No wonder why Vanessa Williams unlike many her peers is not only a15 time Grammy nom classically trained singer, but acclaimed and accomplished across the Broadway stage, celebrated across all of the Arts basically.
Simply wonderful! Vanessa is one of the most talented woman on Earth. Singer, actress, dancer. Completely artist. So sweet her voice. A perfect blend of mellowness and passion. Wow!
Amazing! The best Miss America EVER. The hardest working woman in Hollywood, a woman with an awesome spirit who helps the Special Olympics and other causes. Beautiful inside and (obviously) out.
This was an Appalachian poem, sung by a poor young girl dressed in rags, the man who heard it couldn't forget it, it moved him, so he wrote lyrics and music was added. I read about it years ago, it is a beautiful song, many southern churches have it in their hymnal.
glorious. she's really a stunning woman and a vocal genius. it's not the style i might have expected to suit the carol, but it does - oddly and beautifully.
when has she performed that??? ... she's not singing lately, but Vanessa is such a fine performer.. Incredible actress, singer, mother... amazing person, and of course, breathtakingly butiful, precious woman! I'm proud that there are people like her... They are not a lot, but she definitely deserves everything she gets, all the nominations. She'll keep surprising us with her talant and passion to the art.
This arrangement by Rob Mathes is one of my favorites. The original John Jacob Niles is pretty barebones, which works really well given that it IS a folk song, but I love the additional pensive character Mathes gives it here. The solo muted trumpet is also a cool choice - I imagine it as the faint echo of the herald angel’s announcement to the shepherds, still sounding across the millennia and having a dialogue with the character singing this song. And of course Ms. Williams’ beautiful performance is the cherry on top of it all.
This Live recording is awesome...I Love Vanessa Williams...she's a triple threat...This recording was turned up too loud....but BEAU-TI-FUL JUST THE SAME.
Forget this glitzy ego stroking solo performance. Give me a good old fashioned choir performance. I'm in my early 30's but as far as I'm concerned, pop stars can keep their pop, and leave sacred music to the choirs.
+TdotSoul She sings with good old fashion choir every Sunday. I just sang with her this Easter service. She is an unbelievably humble person, with a beautiful voice.
Not in the public domain. Niles was given grief when he first published int in 1934 and there was a legal battle about it. Sure that has something to do with it.
Vanessa sang this beautiful classic like none other
A gorgeous woman with a gorgeous voice!
I so love this carol. And she does a wonderful performance of it.
Beautiful!
I still can't stop watching her sing this BEAUTIFUL song....

I wonder if it's known who actually wrote this. Or if any more is known about the little girl.
John Jacob Niles gets credit for writing it down and publishing it.
My favorite Christmas song since I heard her singing this on the radio years ago.

I noticed this song is missing from my church hymnal, it has always been my favorite

Something is wrong with whoever doesn’t like this.
John Amis' version is better.
