- Eden Hazard has retired at just 32 years of age. A talent that doesn’t come by very often in a generation, you can’t help but feel that he was taken from the pitch far too early, but a career of riding punishing tackles has finally taken its toll. In fact, we hadn’t seen the real Eden Hazard for the past 4 years due to injuries compounding from his career.
But, Eden Hazard wasn’t just talented, but his approach to football was refreshing: he never took himself or the sport too seriously, he toed the line of playing football for fun, while also being an elite professional, and broke the mould in doing so.

No player in the history of the PL carried their team like Hazard did. He would win cups with average team and win the league whenever he had some ballers around him. The most entertaining PL player I’ve had the pleasure of watching, he was artistic with the ball.

As a fan of as a certain premiere league club, facing Hazard was terrifying!
He had a way of dribbling on his knees turning defenders inside out. As you rightly mention, quite impossible to stop. I would argue he was in the same league as Messi & Ronaldo considering the opposition / hackings he faced in the premiership. A true great!

I’m half Brazilian and saw my team win the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Despite all the players we have produced, Eden Hazard is easily my favourite ever despite not being Brazilian. I am a Chelsea fan so that is where I got a strong connection with Eden. The comment you made about him being a bit Brazilian is very true. He loved to play football with joy like us Brazilians, in this regard, he reminds me of Ronaldinho. Playing for fun and for joy.

@@mellowfellow4956i think it's the idea that as the game becomes more stat orientated, players like hazard fall victim to it and will be viewed more negatively in comparison to goal scoring wingers like Salah, players who have better g/a output. Players like hazard just become players that you had to see to understand his impact, and that unfortunately doesn't stand the test of time as well as those cold hard stats

Eden Hazard was of the huge reasons Chelsea was competitive after Diego Costa left, I sincerely thought he was gonna light La Liga alight for at least a couple of seasons before winding down. It's a shame how RAPIDLY he fell off and wasn't his game-changing self. Seeing all the photos of him in a Chelsea shirt again after all the struggling to score the club has gone through only cements just how elite he was for us. His solo goal where he dribbled through Arsenals entire team during our title winning Conte season exists rent-free in my mind.
I remember how it felt having him at Chelsea man, never really felt worried because you’d expect him to pull off a miracle. Miraculous things he did
He made us smile and that can’t be put into any stat chart.

Fell in love with him when I heard him saying in an interview that he is never going to sacrifice everything else in life for football. Football is an important part of life but it is not his entire life. There are other important things in life as well. Life must be lived as a whole not lived with a myopic goal of being the best player in the world.

I never really watched Hazard at Chelsea so I never really understood why Chelsea fans would say he was on the same level as Neymar, or even better. As a Madrid fan, I never liked his signing, and I didn't really give him a chance at Madrid, but I really wanted to see what everyone seemed to know that I wasn't aware of.
It's sad he got injured so much at Madrid, but I liked him a lot more when I realized he was really trying, but was just unfortunate.
Don't really have many words of praise since I didn't watch him that much. But I feel for him, and i'll watch some highlights to get glimpse...

Hazard was the real deal. Been following Chelsea since I was 15. I remember growing in awe of Hazard when growing up. But I guess I was too spoilt by having him around to bail us in a game and presumed -'yeah we will get someone else to do that'- how wrong was I. To date we have struggled to replace his goal contribution and match performances. Truly a generational player. I was truly lucky to have seen him play football for my club. He made football look so easy!
As a Chelsea fan, he is surely one of the greatest players of all time for us. He always enjoyed himself on the pitch and never gave up, he could create a goal out of nothing. He was unlucky with injuries, he is the 2nd best Dribbler of this generation after Messi.
As a Spurs fan my lasting memory is of Hazard killing our best chance to win the league with that sweet strike and I can't be too upset. Hazard was a special talent and I'm glad to have seen him play at his best during his Chelsea era. Too bad about the injuries and refs not properly protecting a talent like this.

The issue with football today is that it has become so heavily statistics based. It's basically Opta football. Take the Premier League for example, the league is bereft of any true flare players, most PL players today are incredibly boring to watch as individuals because they don't do much else besides run, pass, cross and shoot. Just the basics. Gone are the days when we saw the likes of Henry glide past 3-4 players or a young CR7 play with tricks and flicks. Players today are coached to play like machines in the name of efficiency and that comes at the expense of them being fun to watch. It's sad that we might never again see players like R9, Zidane, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Neymar,, Hazard, players who played with a swagger and kept fans at the edge of their seat whenever they touched the ball. Most of these players with the exception of Neymar and R9 did not score a lot of goals, Ronaldinho had less than 20 league goals in the season when he won the Ballon D'or but that was an era where players were rewarded for impact plus something special. Everybody these days wants to hit Messi-Ronaldo numbers forgetting that those two are rare cases that will NEVER be emulated.
He reminds me a bit of larry bird, had a great carrer for a decade, one ot the best in the world, but retired in his ealry 30's, due to injuries.
In Bird's case was because of his back, which started when he hurt himself while building his mom a driveway, dude was so fucked he couldnt sit on the bench due to the pain, he'd instead lay on his stomach on the sidelines
Had an Eden Hazard poster back in like 2012 or 2013. Bro was such a baller for several seasons. Shame he couldn’t do it for Madrid but still a legend of the game! 🙌🏻💯

Hazard is the greatest player I've ever seen as a Chelsea fan and that's saying something considering I've seen the likes of Zola, Drogba, Lampard, Febregas, Robben, Mata and Anelka play for my team.

Eden Hazard was the closest thing we could have to seeing Messi in the Premier League. He was truly magical and joy. He was my hero as a Chelsea fan and he gave me joy throughout my childhood and teen years.

As a madrid fan, Hazard's case was one of the biggest what if's. We were robbed of an amazing player that could have been a game changer but at the same time, we wouldn't see the Vini of today Since hazard's injuries where a reason he got a lot of playtime, who knows where he would have been if Hazard was always in top form? Still, absolute amazing player, his time came too soon

To gage Hazard's importance for Chelsea, just look how Chelsea's done after he left (other than their UCL win).
No, it wasn't because a lack of money or resources. He was just that KEY element for Chelsea for so long, and they're STILL struggling to find their footings ever since.
I wasn't even able to really celebrate that cl win as a chelsea fan because despite the win I knew how poorly that squad had been built for the long term and knew that without a player the level of hazard to hold it together that the squad who had just become champions of europe would not be able to sustain that level. At the least I am grateful that the club didn't hold onto players like havertz, mount and werner (even though I liked him) out of sentiment for winning the ucl but there is still a long way to go before faith can be had in this current squad to compete for anything.
