  • I've spent the last 5 months researching and learning all about this thing called, Intuitive Eating. After listening to Nutritionist, Haley Goodrich on Jen Hatmaker's podcast, a fire was lit inside of me and I said NO more with Diet Culture. Taking back my life and I'm EXCITED to share this with you. Part II coming next week on what exactly the last 5 months has looked like in a real, honest light. Not easy, but 100% worth it!
    {Longer video than normal but I have so much to say here!}

slowly getting into intuitive eating. I want to be there for my family and partner, and not separate myself from them by eating so restrictively. I feel crappy and gross after not tracking and gaining a bit. Mind you, this is in the presence of my family and girlfriend being very supportive of me, saying they love a healthy me. We need to also spread awareness too that men suffer alongisde women too with dieting, and im a case of it.
    good video

Also. Put away those scales! I gave up weighing myself about 10 years ago (apart from when forced during pregnancy), but i have no idea how much i weigh! And it is soooooo freeing!

I am absolutely with you! I am considered highly intuitive and have always have been a non believer of calorie counting and dieting, unlike my husband. I really had to stand in my own power to not be swayed by this concept. Honestly, it repelled me and was not once tempted to try all the diet fads or calorie counting that nutritionist and dietician would recommend that my husband had discovered for himself. For me it just went again my own internal grain. So wonderful you have discovered this in your own journey.

Hi Ashley, I’m happy that you realize that diets don’t work. This is exactly my style of eating for the last 10 years when I give up on dieting. I eat everything my body craves even sweets and carbs, I drink a lot of water and I try to not eat later than 7 pm plus I like to walk or jog 3-4 times a week. This really works great for me, I hope that many women will realize that diets don’t work.😘😘 I fallow you on instagram and I enjoy seeing everything you share

This is a great way to eat. It isn’t new. In the 80’s, Bob Schwartz wrote a book called “Diets Don’t Work”. The principal is exactly the same. I keep seeing people loving this..,and I do too but I feel like Bob Schwartz never gets any credit. If you like this, please read his book...you’ll love it and I’m sure it’s in the public domain by now.

I have been doing this all of my life and didn’t even know it.
I have never dieted or deprived myself from anything really, but also didn’t binge. I have been pretty much the same weight and size all of my adult life, even after having 3 kids. I’m now 54 and I’m more comfortable about this than ever. I still enjoy everything but am mindful of the things that will be better and more beneficial to my body.
Definitely talking to myself and putting me at ease, that nothing is off limits is what has worked for me. Sometimes by the time I think I can have that dessert I said I would have later, it just passes. I have done intermittent fasting for about 10 years, so I really trick my brain into thinking that I can have everything during my eating window, and most of the time after eating my meal I’m too full to have dessert but I know I can, so I think that’s why it’s easier to just skip it.

I was shocked to find out that I was overweight and not only that but morbidly Obese. I learned that I was at risk for cancer and other things. I was scared, I was devastated! I felt so alone and lonely. This was around 2005. 24 years ago. Wow just got that revelation! 😧 I’m now 57 years old I finally was able to get the help that I needed it came at a very difficult time, but I did loose 52 lbs. so far. I started in December of 2020 and will continue throughout the rest of my year to reach my 1 year goal and will continue until I reach my goal weight and than will be able to eat more. It’s not been an easy journey. It took a few Angels along the way rooting and holloring from the roof tops for me to finally do a thing about it! I get your excitement, it’s a beautiful day, Look foward to part two. We’ll chat again,

He now has a terrible relationship with food! I remember a podcast of the lively show where she talked about intuitive eating and moving with the rhythm of your soul! Gold!

This is new for me, Intuitive eating. I diet but not a chronic one. If I feel I need to loose a little weight and back it up with a little work out here and there, will do it. Even diet pills don't work as much as you want it to taking it on its own without putting in the work. Conscious eating, is that another word for this?

So how has IE changed what you eat? Have you included things you’d banned? Did you make the next video?
For me it changes the dynamic within me more than my actual food. I eat what I want but I also know what makes me feel good. I’ve done keto and that totally screwed my head up. I know what foods work for me without that. It’s a journey though, I still beat myself up and realise I’ve done it. I’m planning pizza right now.

My personal understanding is that IE means you view all food as neutral. IE is about not saying a food is good/healthy or Bad/unhealthy. Obviously foods can be nutritionally beneficial.

Well intentioned, but the is no match for the power of irrational human behavior in a culture that is addicted to all manner of consumption. In addition, we all have our set point and depending where you are on your weight, it will make it that much harder to keep you weight where it should be. My sister adopted a vegetarian diet and lost weight but she did so living in India. I'm convinced that the culture in which you live can have beneficial or adverse effects on your health. The only way to beat our irrational passions is not through sheer will power because we already know it does not work. It's rising up to create a social movement to have sugar regulated as a drug because it's been proven to be addictive. That in itself can really help by getting rid of sugar in foods that don't belong there and cereal is the worst offender. Remember Corn Flakes? It had no sugar. With all due respect, intuitive eating is not going to have lasting effects. We've been fighting the diet war far too long unaware that the food and junk food industry have been cheating by altering foods in ways that appeal to our irrational passions. Think about it. Compared to a vegetarian diet that can be regarded as the healthiest way to eat, McDonald's is on the opposite end of the spectrum: it's the worst stuff you can eat yet we eat it anyway. Not because it's healthy, but because it's altered heightened taste is designed to be addictive and therefore it makes you a junk food junkie. We vastly underestimate the power of our irrational passions and how easily we become dependent on all manner of capitalistic consumption. The vaping industry are no different. It's not about vaping, it's about making the clueless dehumanized objects of perpetual consumption all the while making us believe it's normal to vape and eat junk food. It's madness!

*Quote: figure out how to intuitively eat* (13:10)
If it were intuitive, you wouldn't need to figure it out.
Step 1 ... get rid of all diet books ... except for this one, which _markets_ itself as "a revolutionary program that works." Enough said.
Health at every size? This is dangerous. Obesity _increases the risk_ for many negative health outcomes -- cancer, heart attack, stroke, diabetes, etc. Obesity is of no benefit whatsoever. Do people actually feel good (mental health) about being obese?
"Intuitive eating" is just to make people feel good about bad food choices. It is not a program that will help overweight people achieve their health and fitness goals in order to prevent preventable diseases and ultimately death.
