Great review, thanks. I bought one this week following watching your review. Fantastic guitar. Lovely playability and the sound is excellent. The triple switch for the neck pickups provides some amazing sounds.
Very nice playing! The Ibanez semi hollow body guitars are excellent instruments. I have two older ones, AS80, and AS73. They are very different from each other in neck width and pickups. The 80 is Korean and from the 1990s. The 73 is from China and from 2007. This new one you’re playing seems nicer than either of mine!
Hi Krenar, I’ve wanted one of these for a long time and I think I’m finally gonna go for it. Great video and solo, thank you for taking the time to make it. I wish I saw this earlier!
Thank you for the kind words, Rudi! I recently got a JSM20 in for a review and it's so good that I am going to buy it! Cheers and I hope you enjoy yours!
Hi I own a Gibson les Paul deluxe and an epiphone casino and like yourself never really looked at Ibanez. Out of curiosity I purchased a second hand an AS73tb and was totally blown away by the build and setup and sound of this instrument to which end I have purchased the as113 which I hope to receive in October. May I say that your video is the best I’ve seen regarding this guitar and have watched more than once as it is so informative. Can’t wait to get mine until then I’ll just have to drool over your video lol. Many thanks I look forward to seeing more reviews from yourself.
You just provided me with a high quality LOL, and here's why. Yesterday I was in a music store, playing Ibanez AS113 and loving it. Then I went to youtube searching for reviews and watched your excellent video. Well, then I watched your T484 video and - LOL - Klangfarbe! I live in Vienna and Klangfarbe is where I played that Ibanez. Now I feel OBLIGED to buy it (higher power gave me a sign & all that), yet I can't quite afford it. Anyway, your playing is great, beautiful flow and feel, fine phrasing, you're clearly a natural born musician. I watched your video about getting into jazz too, so - since you really made my day - I'll offer you a bit of my jazz fanatic experience. (Btw, when i say fanatic I don't mean purist, the jazz snobs are always mortally offended by my admiration for Dimebag Darrell.) I can recommend several albums by the untouchable old school guys, albums that - in my book - are the best ever recorded. You mentioned liking Joe Pass, but I don't know if you've checked out FOR DJANGO and EXIMIOUS, utterly remarkable quartet/quintet and trio sessions. Grant Green - NIGERIA (also issued as a part of the COMPLETE QUARTETS WITH SONNY CLARK box) and IDLE MOMENTS. Howard Roberts - THE REAL HOWARD ROBERTS and H.R. IS A DIRTY GUITAR PLAYER. Jim Hall - LIVE (AT THE BOURBON STREET CLUB) and CONCIERTO. Jimmy Raney - BUT BEAUTIFUL and LIVE IN TOKYO. Tal Farlow - THE VERVE SESSIONS (especially those with the one-of-a-kind pianist Eddie Costa) and CHROMATIC PALETTE. Wes Montgomery - FULL HOUSE. Kenny Burrell - The Ellington tribute albums, plus of course MIDNIGHT BLUE. Also - for gourmet butter & silk - Paul Desmond's sublime recordings with Jim Hall and Ed Bickert. And if your interest in jazz extends beyond the guitar, you might enjoy exploring the paranormally delicious worlds of Thelonious Monk, Eric Dolphy, Charlie Haden, Joe Henderson and Lester Young. Cheers.
Hahahah, that's very interesting! Couldn't stop smiling while reading this comment, thanks! The second half of the comment is a total education and I will definitely take a look at all the recommendations. Thanks again, cheers!
Hey there! Yes, I have played both an AS153 and a JSM10 and they sure sound more mellower. I believe the spruce top does make a difference when it comes to the high end. Cheers!
I got this guitar 1 week ago, it has an incredible and versatile sound, you can play jazz, blues and rock with differents sounds options, it’s big and heavy, but when you listen its sound everything change.
I recently bought an Ibanez AF95FM jazz guitar. I wanted a completely hollow archtop jazz box for some time and Ibanez gave what I was looking for. The ebony fretboard feels smooth as silk and the sound is fat, just what I was looking for. I did go with D'Addario XL 110W strings with a wound 'G' string for that jazz tone. I bought mine from Sweetwater. They did their usual 55 point inspection which I think is a great thing.
What a beautiful playing guitar. Clearly the equal of some that are 3 times the cost. And your presentation is excellent. What else is there to say, except that I'm hoping to get one before the year is out.
Krenar great review and thanks for reviewing the guitar and not the effects peddles. Some of these reviews are bad because of that have a great day. Darryl
whilst this is a good review and I appreciate it and will probably buy the AS113 (if they ever arrive in Europe!) but I got weary of everything being "Awesome" or "Amazing"
Hey there, I appreciate the comment and the feedback! I understand where you're coming from and that is why I mentioned that the reason why everything is positive is the fact that I only review gear that I truly like. But again, I know how it might look from different perspectives. At the end of the day, I blame this to the passion and excitement I have about guitar and music, I can't help it but be cheerful! 🤣, Cheers!
I just wish Ibanez would stop with the model number changes all the time. This is really the same guitar as the AS153 AS253 and JSM10. While the JSM is a signature model with a different headstock, renaming the AS153 the AS113 just takes away from establishing a heritage with their instruments. Ironically the more basic AS73 has been around forever and most recognize and know what that guitar is because of that.
Nice review. I love my Scofield JSM-10. Curious about your thoughts regarding the neck joint. Ibanez semi-hollows join at the 17th fret, not higher like a Gibson semi-hollow, which makes the upper fret access more like on a Les Paul than a 335. I don't mind it, but reviewers rarely seem to mention the neck joint.
Hey there, it's interesting because I honestly didn't feel like I had difficulties reaching for the higher frets even though techincally, it should be different. Now that I think about it, I believe it all comes down to the setup. The setup on this one is exactly where I want it to be with minor tweaks, thus eliminating the feel of it being harder to play on the higher register. Hope that makes sense, cheers!
@@KrenarCilkuGuitar It does make sense. I actually think it makes the neck feel even more sturdy. But I wonder why people don't notice/mention it? Either way, I like my Scofield, and I hope you can keep this one
