    Good morning,
The second from top "tube works" is the first one. (B. K. Butler only)
The top one is the second generation (Chandler/BK Butler)
And the two (3-4) are duplicates and ate the third generation (Chandler only)

@ThrashinYorkie Helpful info, thanks! I have a second gen rackmount that I was wondering about. Second gen pedal version too, I really like both. I have an Eric Johnson signature strat (the sunburst variety) and it loves that pedal version. I was playing them through an 80s Music Man 210 sixty five yesterday and it was glorious. I just got the rack one out of the closet as well to see how it sounds.

What’s the difference between the chandler tube drivers? I just got the one without the wall wort and it says tube driver on the top. Thank you and great videos

Good morning! Thank you for the question.
I do not know ALL the information about the company - but B.K. Butler is the creator of these Tube Works rack and pedal units.
At some point Chandler got involved with B.K. Butler and created what I define as, "The Transition Tube Driver".
This [TDR-101] unit has both their names on the face plate.
The INPUT and BOOST of the [RT-913] were replaced with CONTOUR and BIAS dials on the [TDR-101]
It only has TWO slotted holes for mounting as compared to all the others having 4 mounting holes.
The previous B.K. Butler [RT-913] unit requires the wall wort 9V adapter to power the unit and the [TDR-101] has a regular 2 prong plug.
The only other B.K. Butler unit to require a wall wort power supply is the Real Tube Reverb unit [RT-921].
(If you find an [RT-921] - ALWAYS look before you buy! Make sure ALL the springs are in tact. People have modified these by removing some of the springs.)
If you have the [RT-913] Tube Driver unit - Congrats! I hope it works well for you because these things are 40 years old.
The first run rack units have that sound similar to the pedals that everyone is chasing and the rack units are still kind of affordable.
As for the two Tube Driver units below, these are both Chandler only branded on the face plate and are the same.
You can see the transition with smaller switches.
As for sound - It has been a while since I broke these out.
I know all three of these have different circuit cards an some of them have had tubes swapped out.
I tend to lean more towards the B.K. Butler unit [rt-913] as my first choice because it seems to be a rack version of the pedal.
The [TDR-101] would then be my second choice. The Chandler only units would be spares for parts....hahahah...No, they are good too.
These are great units but can be considered one trick ponies that posses a unique sound.
      B. K. Butler hit on something right if guitarist Eric Johnson uses his product.
Other Tube Works items have been used by Jerry Garcia and David Gilmour.
Well that was a lot of information.
I hope I answered your question but it looks like I showed you how to build a watch when all you want was to know what time it was.
      have a great day!

@@ThrashinYorkie that was very useful I have one that is chandler name only and I know mine unlike some of the others also has tube driver printed on the top of it. I have seen a couple demos of it and not sounds similar to the pedal but I won’t know until I open it up lol

I have the Tubeworks model. It’s been hiding for 25 years. I just pulled it out and plan to do some tube swapping to see what it sounds like.

I was going to try and upload the RT-913 this same day, however...there is a power issue that I need to address with that pre-amp.

The bias control is helpful, I just worry if I run it too hot, that the TUBE will fry sooner.
Granted, the pre-amp tubes can run from 8-20 dollars each, depending on what brand you buy.
i just have fun with these to put some more bite into the old fenders I have.
      Thank you for the comment.

Is the Chandler on the top just an earlier one than the 2 on the bottom, but essentially they are the same or?

That was the first (what I would call) the transition Tube Drive when BK Butler teamed up with Chandler.
It has both names on the front and only TWO mounting screws. SO kind of rare. I will see these pop up on ebay or Reverb where they drilled the 4 holes on the tabs. Collector's turn away from them but they still sound good. I don't have access to my notes but I believe the internal cards are a lower revision than those that are ALL Chandler.
      I hope that helps

@@ThrashinYorkie Thanks! Also, Id be curious to know how close the internals/schematic layout are between the All Chandler and the TDR-101 / RT-913! Just curious. I know that schematic doesn't mean everything though. Ive had 3 of the same revision, and they all sounded very different.

Hello. I have some questions. Is this effector powerd by ac power? Which TDR-101 or RT-913 makes better sound?

    • @ThrashinYorkie
      @ThrashinYorkie  3 роки тому

      Sorry, I just saw this.
All of these have the Power cord - similar to amplifiers.
Except for The real Tube Reverb unit, which has an external power supply that plug into it.
Also The RT-913 Tube Drive requires a 9V "wall wort" similar to the ones that Boss uses to power their pedals.
I hope that helps, sorry for the delayed answer.
