I see it as, Devers had 2 previous seasons where he wasn’t nearly as good. But Tatis did it in his rookie year so we don’t have anything previous years to go against him
Joseph Stickyboi that can even be subconscious, as you see your players making stuff happen, instead of just stats. Most fans don’t watch more than 2 teams, and watching a player in person makes you think they are better than they typically are, or worse than they typically are.
Luke Carney 3 HR 19 RBIs, yes he had an OPS above .800, but in 63 games, not enough to be considered fantastic #s. He did great in 2019, but not better than Rafael Devers.
Let's Go METS in 2019, Devers hit more homeruns than McNiel I’m his whole Career, more RBIs as well , Devers also had 35 less hits in 2019 than McNeil has had in his whole service time. He played amazing for the Mets. He’s is good. Just not better than Devers. Nolan Arrenado and Matt Chapman both have the swagger that they KNOW nothing's getting by them, and a stellar play doesn't even phase them. They expect greatness from themselves. Other players don't ooze that confidence like they do.
I wouldn’t be worried about Jose. He was awful from August 2018-June 2019. Teams started throwing him a ton of offspeed, he couldn’t hit it, and it destroyed his concordance for nearly 11 months. He figured it out, and returned to elite form in the second half. I expect him to hit around .300, around 40 HRs and 80 XBHs. He’ll be fine.
my top 10: 1. Nolan Arenado 2. Alex Bregman 3. Anthony Rendon 4. Manny Machado 5. Matt Chapman 6. Jose Ramirez 7. Miguel Andujar 8. Josh Donaldson 9. Kris Bryant 10. Joey Gallo (more of a DH but still considered a 3rd baseman)
Marc I don’t really study stats like you do but I do believe Yoan had less errors at 3rd than second and 3rd was his main position while coming into the league and he just seems more comfortable at 3rd imo he’s a top 10 3B
15:39, As a Padres fan I am not worried about Marc ranking Manny Machado at #7. It was his first season in San Diego and he spent a large part of the season at SS due to the injury to Fernando Tatis Jr. His Defense is outstanding and he hit well in Petco a 'Pitcher's Park'. Manny has stated to the San Diego Media that his first season in SD was NOT his best! I believe he can and certainly wants to play and hit even better in San Diego.
Third base is the most loaded its ever been in baseball history! Literally everyone from like 19 on either is or will be a corner stone player! And I love it! Third base is my favorite position.
Ayat Saleh he may have never played first. But Marc was saying the way he plays seems more like a first baseman. Great offensively but not so great defensively. Usually your best fielders are gonna be third and short stop. Devers probably wouldn’t be playing third if the Red Sox had someone to put on third while he played first.
Third basemen also have an easier switch to first because of the corner position. It's an easy and pretty common switch for guys who aren't great fielders at third.
I really like Jeff McNeil, the Mets confuse me because it seems to me like they have such a great core to build around, with degrom, Thor, McNeil, Alonso, jd Davis, Nimmo, and yet they haven't done much to get better. If they were aggressive and smart they could put a very competitive team that doesn't cost that much.
