- The late OJ Simpson goes down in history for his notorious 1995 murder trial, with no moment more visually memorable than his courtroom glove fitting. When Simpson tried to put on the bloody black gloves found at the scene of the crime, he squirmed and struggled to fit his hands into them, which made them appear to be too small for the football player. While prosecutors had thought the gloves were among the strongest evidence because DNA tests showed blood on them contained genetic markers for Simpson, Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman, the case went up in flames. During closing statements, Simpson’s defense attorney, Johnnie Cochran, proclaimed “If it doesn’t fit, you must acquit.” Simpson was ultimately found not guilty.

he put a glove over one he already had on, elements can shrink gloves, Mike Gilbert wrote a book explaining how he told OJ to not take his arthritis meds so his hand would swell. He did it guys

False: One of the issues that prosecutors had surrounding the glove not fitting Simpson's hand was their knowledge that he had arthritis and was on anti-inflammatory medications, per another report from the Los Angeles Times. They were concerned that Simpson had intentionally foregone taking the medication to make his hands swell up and be unable to fit in the gloves.
However, that was disproven when the Los Angeles County Jail doctor confirmed to attorneys that Simpson had taken his medication every day, on record. The dismissal of this claim led Simpson's defense attorney Johnnie Cochran to quip, "If it doesn't fit, you must acquit," which became the most famous statement to emerge from the trial.

The Racial tension at this time, OJ was never going to jail. Do you know how many Riots would be caused if he was sentenced, but Rodney King’s attackers were let go with no sweat. Politics came into play. If that were you or me we’d be in jail. Even if he was innocent the evidence was enough to get a sentence imo.

Why didn't Marcia Clark challenge this? The second I saw this I said, "He has latex gloves on. Also, those gloves had been wet from the blood and dried. This makes leather shrink. This wasn't a trial, it was a TV series.

Let's not forget that this was a massive failure of the Prosecution in this case. The fact they let him try those gloves on in front of the jury without already knowing ahead of time whether or not they would fit was the dumbest possible thing they could do. They handed the Defense their best evidence.

Everyone (except lawyers) knows that leather shrinks after it get wet in, let’s say, blood.
Actually wet leather expands. It doesn't shrink until dry, and any legit forensic scientist knows this. Also, treated leathers resist shrinkage.
Also OJ stopped taking his arthritis medication which caused his hands to swell significantly also contributing to the ill fitting glove.

He plead the 5th amendment when asked about planting evidence and was later found guilty of perjury regarding this case. And somehow defense was able to get a jury primarily composed of older black women. To them OJ could have been their son or boyfriend.
But it’s not necessary to view this case as black against white. Instead view it as wealth and celebrity as an advantage over regular defendants.
His attorney team was absolutely star studded.
We all know (well most of us know) he did it. And the civil case backs this view up to some extent. Although burden of proof is not as high in civil cases as criminal cases.
OJ might have made more money per hour in his television commercials advertising products for our consumption. If he had not murdered and gone to trial, he could have made many more commercials. He could have had cameos in Hollywood movies.
Not saying his former wife deserved to be killed, but she could have invited him to family functions, to be included with his kids. Maybe things would have turned out differently.
OJ was not invited to her luncheon at restaurant with his kids.

Jail doctor verified that he had taken his meds every day. I think he did it but we should get the facts right.
Those gloves had been soaked in blood and then dried. Any leather will shrink if it has gotten wet. Then he put the shrunken gloves over the top of the Latex gloves. There was no way these gloves would fit. The prosecutors should have pointed these facts out before the gloves were ever allowed to be tried on.

I got the impression that the juror you refer to did not speak for the entire panel. A suspicion of guilt does not rise to the level of reasonable doubt, and sequestered jurors do not have the information the public sees.
For every verdict like this, there are dozens exactly opposite.
We rarely question it until a jury makes a finding we disagree with. Often based on the race of the victim rather than the accused.
