The extra charge is for them to have to repack all the bearings. That moon dust on the volcano destroys everything. My mom hiked Haleakela a few years ago and the sand up there completely destroyed a pair of hiking boots in one day.
You've had one hell of a run the last year spanning the globe. BC race, podium at Whistler, Moab Rocks, dealing with the "Overlord of Darkness" Paul the Punter, Syd & Macky, Ibis, BMC etc.. only to emerge in one piece, stronger, fitter, happier. Glad you could share a working vacation with your bro in fabulous Maui, you earned it.
That turtle breath...so majestic 🦄 Love the ocean intro/outro... And no... We do NOT want you to go bankrupt 😂 you're the one that's started this whole community! We need to keep this going! Lol
Jenny and I were on the Big Island for July 4th and found a trail on the Lava just North of Kona A/P. Goatman and the Trail near the north crater Mana. 41 miles w/ over 6000 of climb. I can’t wait to go back and ride those trails. Keep the Stoke going B. 🤘🤘🤘🤘👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I love that you are taking us to all those great locations. Whistler is cool and all, but I like to see trails and beautiful places all around the world. Keep it up!
I'm 5' 10" and bought a medium Ripmo this year. I fretted over the decision between that and a large, and I'm glad I went with the medium. Large would be better for racing, but the medium is MUCH more fun/tossable.
We rented some bikes from Rob at Krank Cycles in 2015. Got to ride Pineapple Express right when it was opening. Love the trails and Maui in general! Looks like you guys had a blast as well.
Awesome video sir. I am in Maui right now also. Been thinking about breaking away from family activities to take my son out for a day ride. Thanks for the info. It is motivating us to make the trek out. Also you gotta get a video of you jumping off of black rock. Super fun. Enjoy your time
I went to Molokini crater as well and did SNUBA. I saw turtles there about 40 feet deep that were bigger than my dining room table! They can move fast too under water, it's a trip man. Looks like you had a blast Brian, ride on. Oh yeah, loving those shades man. What are they?
Hawaii is my second home! I spent 3.5 years in Hawaii (in the ARMY) and did not bike once! But back in the early 1980's, Mountain Biking was not exactly a popular sport (except for maybe in North Cal) . On my next trip in February, I'm planning to do this Haleakala trail. ALOHA! Yikes! $150 a day for a bike with crappy brakes!
I did that exact ride!!! With the wild pigs at every rest! The loop is torcher. Ps It’s $150 each way on the plane to take your own bike so if you tide it two days you beat the island rental price. Love your vids and wish I was back there.
Jealous! We were there back in February and also did the snorkel trip. There are several MTB rental places there and I wasn't impressed with any of them. I was actually very turned off by Krank cycles when we were there. I hope your experience with them was better than ours. We rented from Island Biker. The guy had good information, but the bikes were a little sketchy. Absolutely loved Maui though and will be going back! Also the blowhole was awesome!
Does anybody else hear the clicking sound while underwater? I have been to Hawaii many times and every time I get in the water I hear that noise and wander just what the he'll is it!? Great vid Brian LOL!!
Nice scenery, was the older guy from Hawaii riding a Lefty hardtail? Thinking of a 2020 FSi carbon 1 to replace my 2016 Focus Raven max SL I just sold, list is 8200.00 but I can get an EXCELLENT price, always nice to have a 20 pound hardtail
Awesome video Brian!. Not the greatest trails I've ever seen, but glad to see you can get a decent ride in there. I only have 2 states to go to complete all 50 (HI and AK) and plan on doing both in a 2 week trip (hopefully next year). Bummer there are no tours, but I guess I could possibly just Uber my way to the top.
I have an aftermarket SRAM Level T brake on the front of my old cheap hardtail, seems to work fine. It feels almost identical to the Shimano brakes on my Giant Trance. Maybe I'm used to substandard brakes, maybe the ones on the bike you had were a little bit shot (it is a rental after all). I guess I'll never know, but I do now want to know if I am missing out :p
Not certain but I think that 4:01 ‘outside line’ is exactly where I went off line, buried my front wheel in the rocks and did a header trying to get back haha
Hmmmm....or looked at from another perspective: properly maintained rim brakes can outperform poorly maintained discs. Sounds to me like the pads & disc got contaminated. I've only had discs for 2 months or so and I've already done that Twice!
Seeing all that dead coral breaks my heart. I wish people would stop stepping on it and wearing toxic sunscreen in the water. If your still in Maui PM me and I've got a great spot where I've always seen sea turtles.
Have you looked into hydromorphic lenses for your GoPro? They stop water or mud etc from staying on the lens, so you don’t have to worry about wiping it. I just bought one online, but haven’t got it yet, so not sure if it’s as effective as it looks.
Went to Maui last year, but didn't get to ride. I did hit three different bike shops while there, bought t-shirts from two and a cycling jersey from another. I like to buy t-shirts and jerseys from bike shops when on vacation, better than any junky souvenirs
I couldn't like this vid fast enough. Been to Maui 6 times and I've never knew about the trails until recently. Next time for sure and thanks for the vid! Did you jump Black Rock?
I rode down this volcano as part of a touristy deal called the Maui downhill when i was 13 the tour i was part of only did the asphalt down the volcano would love to go back someday and ride this trail. the odds are not with me but who knows maybe i'll make it back there someday.
I'm a sucker for pine covered trails. Looks so good to me, even if it's a bit slippery. Furthermore Texas me is freaking out that 60 degrees F is comfortable, it's 74 F here and I'm in a jacket! COLD 😂
Sweet Island ride!!!.... 3k meter downhill rush!! Maybe next year I'll use this trip as motivation to plan a West Indian Island MTB tour... Islands took 300,000 years give or take 10K years to form up.. Tried to buy some merch, select shipping to Canada but the PayPal link wedges when I try to checkout. I'll have to get a friend in the US to buy and send up to 416.... Be good, do better!!
@@bkxc . Kk. I'll try again from a laptop. Right now summer is fighting tooth and nail to stay in the 416. Just getting back from an afternoon ride. Busy getting food sorted and mixing mojitos for us deserving riders... I'll update you on my success. I need a couple sets of gloves as presents...
Dang, was there not long ago and tried looking up mountain biking and came up dry. Guess I didn't search hard enough. We did hike down Haleakala though, looks a little more fun on a bike.
The snorkelling looks amazing out there. So what’s the views on a smaller frame?? Something you would try again or prefer the longer frame with a more stable feel?? As for the SRAM Level T brakes, I run then, so that’s answered ma question that they’re a well needed upgrade Hahahaha
Great video as always B.. really good content. There were a another couple of guys I knew once, used to do something similar. One disappeared into the sunset in a campervan full of coke and hookers and the other threw it all in and went and launched a carpentry channel.. (I'm joking before anyone takes a hit out on me!) but seriously, I really enjoyed this vid. Keep em coming! 🚴👍
I have the stock marlin 5 tektro hydraulic brakes and they stop on a dime while riding my local snowmobile trails. How much better can brakes get if I can lock my tires up in a split second..? Mind you I've never taken my bike to any lift parks or Hawaiian mountain ranges..
2005 I got to take the tour shuttle bus up the mountain, and do the downhill on the road. Never even thought about the trail. Still, It Was Such A BLAST!!!!!
Totally need the fluid filled brakes. There is another ride along the ridge that’s extreme. You need to know where you are going though to find it. Then you have to hitch a ride back up to your car. Gotta find a local who bikes to show you.
Hey- this is completely, or maybe kinda, off topic... but I was thinking about the gimbal problem... and I thought you might be able to give this a whirl. 360 camera! How kind to put the equivalent of altitude and temperature in the metric system!

Where's the underwater bike trail?
"As you can obviously see" in all the fog, haha brilliant.
"As you can obviously see, I can't!"
The terrain changes through this video were sooooooo cool
Yeah, it was crazy!
Great video Brian, thanks man. Why anyone would dislike your content is beyond me.

Oh wow! Awesome
Also, Brian, your jersey is awesome! Suggestion: Do a Long Sleeve, reversed colour! :D
Agreed. Long sleeves be far better over here in Scotland
Yep, I also agree. Long sleeved version please Brian, much better for us Brits.
Oh man, nice suggestion!!
Sweet! I rented a Ripmo from Krank and met Rob while riding the Makawao trails back in June.
Nice!!
Great video man! I love seeing the other non-mtb parts of the trip too! 🤙🏼
Thanks!

Only one good thing about Monday’s and that’s a new BKXC video🤘🏻
Hell yes!
2:33 tripped me out so hard hahaha looks like they're cruising uphill
I thought the same shit!!!
I thought I was losing my mind
Totally agree!!.....was wondering why he wasn't breathing harder!!!🤣
Yeah I thought they were on electric bikes or something.
I thought the same exact thing!
Brian, did you like the agility of the medium Ripmo over the stability of the large Rimpo?
Looks like a fun trip. I rode those trails by the shop. Definitely were fun. I’ll definitely shoot for the top of the volcano next time!
It was a pretty neat experience!
Wow awesome Maui, love the trail and snorkel 👍✌
Woah, cool video ! I wanna bike there so bad! Thanks for showing us this!

Other than the brakes, how did you enjoy riding the Medium Ripmo v. Large?
I also ride a M Ripmo! I'm 5'10 and usually ride large frames.. it was a nice change. I always wonder what a large might feel like though
Not much feedback, not enough riding to make a decision!

love the trail so flowy and enjoy to ride!!!
Sweeet! Looks like a bit of everything on that trail!
The best advancement in Mtb... hydraulic disc brakes, IMO 💣
Christopher McGlaughlin nah would rather have a bike with hydro’s but no dropper then a dropper but no hydro’s
Front Suspension...
Hmmmm....or looked at from another perspective: properly maintained rim brakes can outperform poorly maintained discs. Sounds to me like the pads & disc got contaminated. I've only had discs for 2 months or so and I've already done that Twice!
M Modtomic I’ll take the poorly?? Maintained Hydros any day. Lol Rim brakes.
Now, all we need is an ABS type of brakes LOL
Hawaii? You're living the life, brother! Congrats! :)
