Just yelling the name of the bad guy in his theme should be really cheesy but this theme not only makes it work, it send shivers down your spine every time the choir yells "SEPHIROTH!".
It was definitely assisted along given that you've been chasing a trail of corpses and he killed your homie in front of you. I remember finding the Midgard Zolom corpse. 🤣
Seeing how Sephiroth is the apex predator in the lifestream, it would be entirely in character for him to grab some random souls and force them to sing his praise. Basically my headcanon is that One Winged Angel is canon because Sephiroth is _that_ fucking petty.
This was mind blowing back in 1997 imagine you go through the whole game enjoying all the exelent theme song, none of the are voiced. Then suddenly on the very last part of the game, only on one enemy and nowhere else you get slap with a fricken orchestra. It may seem ubiquitous to have orchestral music in boss fights but bavk then video games does not do this.
Music always gets me in games especially when it’s done well Final Fantasy has been a staple of well done music that matched perfectly for the scene going on as for newer games, I feel dark souls series does a great job of this makes the last boss really feel like something special
What's crazy enough is the choir is a REAL choir in the original game. The storage space required to store an actual Choir as part of the games Soundfont was a HUGE factor in SE deciding to make the game as large as possible and expland 4 entire disk. I'm not even joking when I say about 8% of the disk 4 files are the Choir just for One Winged Angel. That's how much they KNEW Nobou cooked.
Especially when you had a “slow build” from the track “those chosen by the planet” then you here that melody come together in one winged angel. Oof, goosebumps.
The composer for this specific arrangement of One-Winged Angel Yasunori Nishiki was a big fan of the original composer Nobuo Uematsu. He said he felt enormous pressure when composing this arrangement as he wanted to satisfy himself without destroying the charm of the original. Nishiki is also the composer for Octopath Traveler 1 and 2, and the music is absolutely amazing, I 100% recommend Galdera's theme, the super/final boss? to react to, mainly his phase 1 song "The One They Call the Witch" and phase 2 "Daughter of the Dark God." And if you want too his Octopath 2 theme "Underworldly Entity"
I feel he did an incredible job on building on the original and making it even more epic without taking anything away from the original work. And it fits the game, since ff7 remake was about building off the original, not just doing the same thing over again.
If you love Nishiki's work, go check out what he composed for Octopath Traveler : Champions of the Continent. IMO this is his best work, the soundtrack is massive and of incredible quality.
You might notice something interesting about this piece. The composer did an interview when the original version came out. I remember Nobuo Uematsu mentioning that he wanted this piece to sound like a ill-fated dance to the death, which is why the piece has momentum to it at all time and mirrors some ballet music, albeit more horror because you are fighting the one-winged angel after all. Love the reaction, the ace attorney investigation games are some of my absolute favorites, highly recommend.
I cannot describe to you the rush you get when that heroic moment at 8:35 plays during the boss fight. The fight is split into phases and that part doesn’t play until the final phase. You’ve probably been fighting for 15-20 minutes (or hours if you keep dying like me) at that point, back against the wall and blood pumping, it’s just the boost you need to keep going.
I’ve always viewed this part of the song in this & other versions, is the last remnants of the man Sephiroth once was, sort of just briefly peeking back out, before his madness snaps back & the monstrosity he has become consumes him.
And the fact that that particular motif is heavily associated with the Whispers and Fate in general is also hugely indicative of the fact that Sephiroth, thanks to your unwitting help, has seized control of the Whispers.
Without getting into the epic score that is One Winged Angel, it was delightful to see how genuinely and visibly enjoyable you found the experience of listening to the music. Also it was interesting to hear a "play by play" of how you envisioned the story behind the song progresses and some of the explanations behind your thinking.
Ahhh one of the best songs FF7 has to offer! This track fits so well with Sephiroth’s background and his existence for the story like this track sounds like terror yet divine! Love your reactions to this song and look forward for another!
The thing with this version of the song is that it plays off of the expectations of people who have heard the original song. If actively messes with you and strings you along while putting parts of the song from the original game composition in the wrong order. It mirrors the story of the game and Sephiroth's actions. Hes messing with the timeline in order to bring himself back into true existance because he lives as a nightmare in Cloud's mind. It isnt until the song "restarts" at the 4:30 mark that it begins to resemble the original piece. Its really a genius piece of neuanced musical storytelling
I definitely prefer the FFVII: Advent Children version of this song. It's a mix of heavy metal and the usual orchestral parts. It's the more powerful version, IMHO!
Advent children version is the most impressive when it comes to arrangement. How the hell do you take a metal band and incorperate it into a classical orchestra!? But when it comes to making a sequel that is purely orchestral like the original, this one is better
Agreed to Advent Children being the best version. I don't dislike this version, but it has nothing on the drop of the electric guitar solo in A.C.'s version
This OST is from the remake and is built to be unique and for those who played FFVII to be expecting. It does a great job to be its proprer OST for FFVII Remake and to build expectation for players of the original game. JENOVA Remake has the same quality (a theme vs what we can make of a known theme)
What I really love about this track, and which, in my Opinion J-E-N-O-V-A Quickening, another track in FFVII Remake, does even better, is setting up a very different feel to the original in the beginning of the Track, while building up to a big climactic high point, before it breaks off with a tone shift, "restarting" to make way for the actual theme from the Original. You notice it around 3:50 quite well, where the theme kinda slows down again. Before that point, the Iconic "SEPHIROTH" chant doesn't really show up. But then at 4:05 the theme restarts, with the same marching drums, the lyrics, and, most importantly, SEPHIROTH! It's such a neat thing, but it made those themes very fun to listen to. Because it's a very satisfying payoff for the build up, both in narrative as well as musically
The instinct feeling is still there. The panic, the determination, the sweaty palms gripping the controller, the scraping a limit break together and hoping it lasts long enough to throw an elixer, summoning every creature in your materia slots and hoping/praying/begging it's enough........So beautiful.
Still get goose-bumps every time this theme appears! If you're interested in Final Fantasy stuff this is my absolute favourite cover of J-E-N-O-V-A into One Winged Angel: ua-cam.com/video/qSm_R-0e2sc/v-deo.html Just the intro with the piano is brilliant
What i love most about this sound is that for og fans, they tease you with the drop that leads to the choir singing "sephiroth". In the game they hold onto it for the final phase of his fight
What impressed me most about this when I first heard it in the game was how they synchronized the different movements of the piece with the different stages of the fight and made it sound seamless, regardless of how long you took to get to that stage. The sound design in this game was absolutely incredible, and the soundtrack was equally good to go with it. Some of Square's finest work IMO.
Man if you heard the original, this one builds, you anticipate this remake to go in one direction and it completely fools you. If you watched the fight scene that goes with this song in Advent Children........heavy breathing and goosebumps everywhere.
Very enjoyable watch, much appreciated how you didn't pause constantly (at all) to give your takes on what you hear. I find that sus, I think people should listen to a whole thing through before acting like they know what they're talking about. You gotta take in that shit... This was such a joy upon first hearing, playing this epic game full of amazing music and THIS is the crescendo of it all. Mwahhhhh! Final Fantasy is now my favourite media franchise, games or beyond. There are probably 500 great Final Fantasy songs so I think you'll have a great time. Subbed.
Thank you so much for this, this is exactly the kind of video I wanted to watch tonight, I had to go out of my way to find someone who was actually discussing the music rather than just saying "wow that was so cool!" (nothing against them, but I wanted to hear a professional perspective). If you enjoyed this a lot, I hope someday you are able to do something similar with Liberi Fatali of FFVIII :D
Oh I would love to see your reaction to J.E.N.O.V.A: Quickening from this game. It's such a wild musical ride with how it evolves and builds towards the end.
It's nice to see someone who knows their stuff when it comes to content like this; obviously you're well-versed in music theory. It's my first time here, so I'm not sure how reactions are structured and I noticed other game soundtrack material you've reacted to. Not sure if this is the place to do it, but any thought to covering any material from the soundtracks from the Metroid Prime series? Just curious. Hitting the sub button on the way out; cheers!
My favorite theme in all of video games, along side my favorite boss. Sepharoth is so fucking cool man, and his theme goes way to hard, especially this iteration.
Honestly I love the fact that all of sephiroths battle themes (One-Winged Angel, Birth of a God, The Worlds Enemy, and OWA Rebirth, and yes I consider the last 2 different from the og owa) have parts inspired by his main theme (other than owa) those chosen by the planet
I love what they did with the original. This version is like a deconstructed version that's been remade to keep you in anticipation. Compare this to the original version, the Advent Children version, and the latest version in FF7 Rebirth. This version (Remake) takes 4:28 seconds before they say his name. It's intentionally dragged out.
I enjoyed this version and your experience of the music but I got to say the Advent Children version of this song is still by far my favorite. I would love for you to give that a listen in your spare time. Though it's like 8 minutes long so maybe that would asking a lot lol.
I never played the original game, nor am I a fan of the Final Fantasy games per se... BUT this piece of music is phenomenal. Although, I'm much more familiar with the versions that came with the Advent Children movie and the Kingdom Hearts games. The song as I know it begins in earnest at 4:05.
If you want to listen to a great final fantasy song, I'd suggest FF6's "Dancing Mad". Nobuo really outdid himself writing a 20 minutes master piece. For the Super Nintendo. FF6 soundtrack might just be Uematsu's Magnum Oppus.
Was a bit of a shame tbh you never got to hear the full song as you just walked in and W-summoned knights of the round and the fight was over. Also I always preferred the Advent children version with the electric guitar mixed in that was a banger.
I'm just here to shamelessly plug for free Square's rhythm game that came out February this year, "Theatrhythm Final Bar Line". This particular track isn't in the lineup of 502 (with all DLC) tracks, but it does have the arranged version of this track, and I highly recommend it if you're a fan of Final Fantasy, Rhythm games, or just games music in general. This is a game series that I think goes under a lot of people's radar. They have a completely separate title for Kingdom Hearts tracks, if that's more your thing. Anyways, listening to this again makes me want to go back and do the Sephiroth fight again in Remake. I still have a few extra fights left to do post Intergrade too.
I definitely recommend more Nobuo Uematsu since you’re enjoying this. Also you might want to check out The Black Mages who contains the original composer of this song as a band member.
You should listen to the warbringers jaina shanty from world of Warcraft The Russian version is incredible and has a great backstory to the recording too
Hollow knight would be a fantastic game to react to especially as it was a indie title made by like 3 people its phenomenal. Also a lesser know game by the name of Othercide a lot of people have never heard of but has some of the best music of any games I've ever witnessed truly its unbelievable shame the game was slept on.
Oh if you're listening to FF7 YOU HAVE to listen to FF14 music like "Shadowbringers" "flow" or "The final day" just to name a few the music composer for 14 is Soken Masayoshi, he's absolutely incredible but either way great reaction!
Abzu soundtrack makes Abzu best game ever to me, even if game can be completed in approximately 1h. I needed 5 - 6 hours because I was enjoying music and tge environments SOOO so much that I wasn't in the rush to advance further deeper into the game. Witcher 3 being 2nd best game to me.
we should let her hear the original ps1 sephiroth theme, that was chilling, scary and ill omen at the same time, i actually dont know how to describe it but.. that 1 is masterpiece, most of sephiroth themes now are more chaotics, too bad they didnt really feel how sephiroth should be..
On a the stream where you beat melania, congrats by the way, you showed a list of games you might play. You have nier automata but not original nier, I don't know if you've played the original which if so then just disregard this. If you haven't then I would greatly recommend playing the original, hopefully on stream, as certain characters, events and set pieces would make way more sense. I came across your stuff like two weeks ago randomly because of the youtube algorithm and I'm happy I did as you're super cool. Keep up the great work.
Classic! I'd be curious to hear your take on Berserk 2016 My brother dragon slayer remix, it's an official remastered version of the 1997 orchestral song. There's a lot of huge anime songs that are worth listening to also, like Tokyo Ghoul, Vinland saga or Jujutsu kaisen openings.
The original was timed to the fight, with new sections developing during the transitions. To play it is to edit it. Because it is a multisection song. ❤
This version is great, but so hurtful to hear, they purposly keeps teasing you again and again that eventually the original version is going to start playing but you never know when hahahah
If you like this i recommend the music Nubuo Uematsu did for The Last Story, specifically Toberu Mono (Those Who Can Fly), the version that plays during the end credits has wonderful vocals. ua-cam.com/video/xZ8eAqJleJs/v-deo.html
love seing the reactions could do some pieces from the critically acclaimed Final Fantasy XIV ua-cam.com/video/p86icWXs0CQ/v-deo.html - Answers ua-cam.com/video/rRmrzSseKGw/v-deo.html - Dragonsong ua-cam.com/video/6ugtWT_iNqw/v-deo.html - Shadowbringers ua-cam.com/video/hUVAJ60Erfo/v-deo.html - What Angel Wakes Me ua-cam.com/video/E1nIlwcMZQQ/v-deo.html - Civilizations a.k.a Lahee
You should react to Nier’s soundtrack! It’s the best video game soundtrack I’ve ever listened to and even features an entirely made up language for its music!
@@flyingpigmonkey1 Nah, the song did it for me before I had played any of the games or knew anything of what he had done.
Also helps he's not called "Big Sword Terry" or something, would be less scary
Seeing how Sephiroth is the apex predator in the lifestream, it would be entirely in character for him to grab some random souls and force them to sing his praise. Basically my headcanon is that One Winged Angel is canon because Sephiroth is _that_ fucking petty.
"Shia LaBeouf"
Ah yes, the Imperial March of video game music.
Never has truer words been written.
The original is....not this mixed version! This is good but this is the Remake version! Even the Advent children version was better than this.
The remake version of one winged angel is goated tho
@zazoreal5536 advent is probably the best version the guitar to strings balance is perfection
As of Sephiroth wasn't intimidating enough as a kid, this song scared the crap outta me lol
Music always gets me in games especially when it’s done well Final Fantasy has been a staple of well done music that matched perfectly for the scene going on as for newer games, I feel dark souls series does a great job of this makes the last boss really feel like something special

Yes, Sephiroth is hunting YOU.

thanks for the insight into the game! love hearing about background and implementation
Ohh man this is like Mickey said yo Rocky in this case Cloud "Get up You son of by b... Because Mickey loves You"
I’ve always viewed this part of the song in this & other versions, is the last remnants of the man Sephiroth once was, sort of just briefly peeking back out, before his madness snaps back & the monstrosity he has become consumes him.

4:15 the “frolic in the park” construes Sephiroth’s glee in the midst of battle/decimating his enemy,
I think.
Not so much the battle itself, but more that he gets to torment cloud in a more direct way
“you’re dealing with me now” -Sephiroth
Ahhh one of the best songs FF7 has to offer! This track fits so well with Sephiroth’s background and his existence for the story like this track sounds like terror yet divine! Love your reactions to this song and look forward for another!

I definitely prefer the FFVII: Advent Children version of this song. It's a mix of heavy metal and the usual orchestral parts. It's the more powerful version, IMHO!
I agree. I think it feels like the more complete song as well because of the diversity of the classical orchestral parts offset by the metal elements.
oh yeah the advent children version is by far the best, this ones still great though
The Advent children theme is iconic but for me not the best one the Remake one is now my favorite
Advent children version is the most impressive when it comes to arrangement. How the hell do you take a metal band and incorperate it into a classical orchestra!? But when it comes to making a sequel that is purely orchestral like the original, this one is better

"These runs!"
This song definitely has the runs. It really gives you the runs.
Still get goose-bumps every time this theme appears!

Just the intro with the piano is brilliant
This. Fight. Was. So. Long.
Bells, Frogs, Big Cherries, Peter Pan, Magic Cheese, SEPHIROTH!!!
Or; Here’s the timpani he’s a bad enemy x2 Sephiroth x2
What i love most about this sound is that for og fans, they tease you with the drop that leads to the choir singing "sephiroth".
In the game they hold onto it for the final phase of his fight
_Straight_ into the reaction. Love that!

The soundtrack to this game is just something else. Love watching other people enjoy it, welcome to the genius writing of Nobuo Uematsu
Thank you so much for this, this is exactly the kind of video I wanted to watch tonight, I had to go out of my way to find someone who was actually discussing the music rather than just saying "wow that was so cool!" (nothing against them, but I wanted to hear a professional perspective).

Just started watching your stuff and it’s super cool - I love getting to see the wheels turn as you take the songs in. Excited to see more 👍
The birth song of "Why do I hear boss music?"
Proper symphonic writing 🔥
From a composer who is is entirely self-taught, mucking around with a piano and never had a teacher :)
You should definitely try "the wall" someday, your ear for sound is impeccable 😊
Absolute masterpiece, bummed I didn't get to watch the reaction live. Also bummed I've never seen the Final Fantasy live orchestra.
Everyone: One Winged Angel is perfection
Nobuo: dont fuggin tell me what my limits are!
I think Airbuster should be next. What do you guys think?
9:21 is my favorite part
If you've heard the original this version is a massive tease for the ears but the composer did an amazing job
React to "If You Still Believe" from the video game The Legend of Dragoon.
I enjoyed this version and your experience of the music but I got to say the Advent Children version of this song is still by far my favorite. I would love for you to give that a listen in your spare time. Though it's like 8 minutes long so maybe that would asking a lot lol.
Best Final Boss theme 🤩

It is cool how much you enjoy this awesome music 🎵
😂😂the pill changed to baptism, after the little piano bit came in.
Was a bit of a shame tbh you never got to hear the full song as you just walked in and W-summoned knights of the round and the fight was over. Also I always preferred the Advent children version with the electric guitar mixed in that was a banger.
You should listen to the Black mage's version. They are the original composer's band. Just awesome when the electric guitar drops in.

Hollow knight would be a fantastic game to react to especially as it was a indie title made by like 3 people its phenomenal. Also a lesser know game by the name of Othercide a lot of people have never heard of but has some of the best music of any games I've ever witnessed truly its unbelievable shame the game was slept on.
love that game! reacted to the whole soundtrack on twitch, I can post those too!
this song is amazing
serpent eating the ground
All Hail Sephiroth!!!
Oh if you're listening to FF7 YOU HAVE to listen to FF14 music like "Shadowbringers" "flow" or "The final day" just to name a few the music composer for 14 is Soken Masayoshi, he's absolutely incredible but either way great reaction!
This! I recommended the same on one of the previous videos hahah
Abzu and Journey have unbelievable soundtracks.
As if One Winged Angel wasn't epic enough we get an epic intro for it
You should check out dancing mad by Nobuo Uematsu one of the best songs in any video game
Best Song in Video Game History
isn't this girl in death stranding?
You should check out the soundtrack to Final Fantasy 16, that had some amazing tunes
Why hasn't anyone suggested watching "Project Hiroyuki Sawano" Attack on Titans yet?
This is Remake's version of the track. Not the original. And Remake is well... More than just a Remake of the OG game. But yeah, still peak!
If you like something like this you should listen to the serpent eating the horizon from the bravely default soundtrack
I feel like you’d really enjoy the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Octopath Traveler II soundtracks!
This was a great remake to the work done by Nobuo Uematsu
For a moment I thought you said Fort Condor.
Gotta do the Airbuster song from this game!!!
While still a really compelling track, is it just me or are the original and AC versions more impactful?
The original was timed to the fight, with new sections developing during the transitions. To play it is to edit it. Because it is a multisection song. ❤
I highly recommend "Undefeatable" from Sonic Frontiers
Cosmo Canyon! Youll like it.

I recommend you listening to DS3 lorian and lothric soundtrack, this piece sends shivers down my spine
LOVE that one!
FFVII _Remake_ for the title. I'm not a huge orchestral dude so I miss the original.
GOW Ragnorok for a future vid?
what tracks do you want to hear??
PLEASE take a look on the Hollow Knight score!!! It will not disappoint!
LOVE HK, going to upload some of those!

Perhaps you would like Azhdaha's theme from Genshin Impact! It's very unique!
I think you’d love music from the persona series especially persona 5
Oh Hi Målingen 😁
I understood that reference. Have a pleasant day! 👍👍👍
when you realize you know fuck all about music when professionals talk about "writing" on a music piece lmao
im talking about me of course
You should react to Nier’s soundtrack! It’s the best video game soundtrack I’ve ever listened to and even features an entirely made up language for its music!
This song could be called edging. I WAS WAITING FOR THE "SEPHIROTH !" !
React to doom cultist base it rips! The 9:27 one its awesome!
