    Very cool stuff. I love the Frank Frazetta themed stuff and that Bruce Lee one in the follow-up footage was also pretty cool. Even Tor Johnson seems like a great choice, especially with Halloween just a couple months away. Lastly, I'm currently enjoying that weird little book you showed at the end there, "Bubblegum Apocalypse Noir". The author has a cool style and I'm enjoying his story-telling ways. I remember two robot toys from my youth.
    The Xeroids. These were serious looking toy robots. I think I only had one.
    The Ding-A-Lings. A large group of limited articulated robot figures. And a giant robot called Mighty King Ding. I remember only owning a Ding-A-Ling called Claw because it had two large claws for lifting. It was probably the most affordable of all the Ding-A-Lings. The second was Twirly, supposedly a flying robot with a spinning wheel on its head.
    Then, of course The Micronaughts from the mid 1970’s. These figures were expensive. Up to $10.00 per figure.
    I remember seeing those early transforming robot toys in a Japanese store in the mall I used to hang out in.
    Frank Frazetta. I remember seeing his artwork in the Famous Monsters Of Filmland magazine in the 70’s. Another artist who was also similar to Frazetta was Boris G. Vallejo, his artwork was also featured in Famous Monsters, too. Famous Monsters sold books of their artwork.
    As to soundtracks, which is my favorite part about collecting, I happen to have the Film Score Monthly released version of Heavy Metal and it had both versions of Elmer Bernstein’s score, the album version and the complete version. If you haven’t heard it yet, your ears will thank you. It is so powerful.
    I would love to buy the Ogra/Gorgo figure.
    It will probably take two or three paychecks to purchase the items I want. But, anything you want in life is worth the wait.
    Have a great weekend, friend.😎✌️

    • @AtomicSnackBar
      @AtomicSnackBar  3 дні тому

      Both Xeriods and the Ding-A-Lings were before my time, but I've become rather familiar with them in my adult life. I've even used commercials for both in my videos. Really neat toylines.
      I had no idea the Micronauts were so pricey. 10 bucks would have been high in the '80s when I was a kid, nonetheless the '70s. Yeek.
      I know Boris' work well thanks to the amazing Deathstalker posters. I probably like him as much as I do Frazetta. Well, almost as much. He is darn good and a staple of sword & sorcery.
      Last soundtrack I picked up was Dinosaur Island. Since I collect comics, toys, movies, music, and TTRGPs, I jump around with what I buy at a time.
      Thanks, Gary.

    I'm (inexplicably) obsessed with MOGERA (AKA MOGUERA), the giant robot from _Godzilla vs Space Godzilla,_ so I was delighted to finally get Super 7's figure, but S H Monster Arts just re-released their own super-articulated figure in Japan--now with launch pad gantries!--with an October release in the US, so I have to have that as well. My favorite, though, will always be the 1994 Bandai transforming figure which could be pulled apart and reassembled into a pair of vehicles as seen in the film. It helped me design an alternate version that "transforms" far better than the sadly rushed movie version (every part of Movie Moggie wildly changes proportions/positions from shot to shot during the process).

    • @AtomicSnackBar
      @AtomicSnackBar  16 днів тому +2

      I'm not overly well-versed in the Heisei-era Godzilla films. I mostly know the Showa Mogura from The Mysterians. That said, I do like some of those designs. Mogera and Kiryu look pretty neat.
      And speaking of the articulation I complained about in the video, I mind it a lot less with robots. With many bot figures, the articulation just blends in with the design and doesn't take away from the look. In those cases, it's mainly just the price point that is effected.

    Good stuff RS! Lots of cool stuff to collect , at variable price points! Seems like stuff is crazy expensive these days….almost $100 for a 1/12 figure. The Orgra figure is way cool, but almost $200. Oh, well. Gotta keep working on the way-way back machine.
    Skeletal Godzilla has gotta be an easy pick.

      After I did the first episode, I realized I focused a bit too much on expensive stuff. So this time about I wanted to work in some more reasonably priced collectables as well. And I'd say for the scale, detail, and price point, you don't get much better than the Sweetums figure.

    I am very familiar with the “Robert the Robot” toy that appears at 6:00. My brother had that one and I played with it a lot. The arms were movable, and the hands had a powerful steel spring that would hold the hand either open or closed as you positioned it. I emphasize that the spring was powerful, as the robot hands could pinch your fingers.
    There was a remote control in the form of a pistol, connected tot he robot by a springy steel cable. There was a hand-crank on the side of the pistol that - as you cranked furiously in either direction - would make the robot move forward or backwards. Pulling or releasing the “trigger” of the pistol steered left or right.
    There was a crank on the back of the robot, that drove a small phonograph record: I am Robert Robot, mechanical man. Ride me and steer me, wherever you can.”
