I bought them the day they came out and haven't regretted it --- a great option for someone that wants good build quality but without the hifi features of $$$ products (and whose head doesn't fit the DT-XXX lineup)

My issue is build quality. My son broke a pair of these on both sides and now I have to send them back to rode for a replacement. I bought a pair and so far so good on them holding up so far.

So I'm used to just getting $50 pairs of headphones to get by... usually to use for gaming... nothing heavy. That said I'm getting serious now. Just got the NT1 5th Gen as an ipgrade to my $20 tackstar shotgun mic. I RREEEAAALLLYYY want to get the NTH100 for long haul editing but as you say.... would you say it's a make or brake issue for these headphones. I'm so close to getting them

I just got a pair. Compared to the Sennheiser HD 380 Pro, they sound very bassy and muddy. Not impressed.

Would you go with these or AKG K371 for neutral monitoring during recording of vocals (spoken word & sung) and recording of indoor/outdoor sound samples & ambient? field recordings?

  • @D-generon
    @D-generon 4 місяці тому

Well, these cans are genius in many, many ways in terms of design, durability, comfort, etc, buuuut there's a big but: even though their sound signature is neutral-ish in a good way and they reproduce vocals quite well, they seem to fail at representing some frequencies adequately, especially upper mids and highs. They're lacking crisp and clear sound reproduction, giving you the impression that you're sitting in the room with the walls made of cardboard. So their are probably the most unengaging headphones I've ever heard l. Nth-100 costs $150 because they're like a weird mix of $250 cans in terms of build and $50 cans in terms of sound.

    ❗️ WARNING ❗️
    Don’t buy these headphones 🎧
They break VERY EASY on the opposite side of the locking knob. It’s just thin plastic holding the cup to the headband and it snaps. This is not an isolated one off. It has happen to others.

Well, my shure srh 840 recently broke, after 12 years of use, and yes, they had big creaking issues as well as bleeding, so they were a pain when recording vocals (speech and singing). I like to use my headphones as well for mixing, when not with my big monitors, and so, now that I have to buy new ones, I am between the sennheiser hd 300 pro and these rode ones. Which one would you recommend best?

Just bought the Rode NTH 100 today. They are dearer than a Sharpe that I already have and cheaper than a Panasonic. A very quick 'test drive' today tells me that they are just as good as the Panasonic. Mind you this is from a guy who has become partially deaf from 40 years of headphone wearing with volume just about shaking hands with feedback.
However you are so right about the cable. The Panasonic has a straight and a coiled cabled.
    Love your videos...

These headphones didn't do it for me.
I didn't appreciate the sound quality of these cans.
To me it sounds like I am listening through a blanket at times otherwise I could live with these cans build quality wise.
I believe the issue was the pading in the ear cups that I could clearly hear and I believe this was done because Rode took the low road tuning these cans and that is a shame because otherwise I kinda liked the Rodes NTH 100s
Bottom line for me was I didn't like the pillow sound between my ears and the cans.
I returned them to the retailer for a refund.

I'm tempted to go for the DT990s for editing my vo and audio book stuff. Those Rodes are listening/tracking I guess, and 32 ohms means they'll work with an mp3 player etc. I use Audio Technica M40s for recording, coiled cable, and wld probably go for M50x next or the closed Bayerdynamic DT770. These are all roughly 60 Canadian more than the Rodes. But interesting to see if you stick with them. Still use my trusty old Senheiser HD 414s for late night listening and guitar practice. 🎸

Marketing budget for youtube to push that narrative. Like all their products its heavily branded to give you this clout the they have not earned IMO.
