I feel like for £3 you can't really ever go wrong. If anything if it wasn't a great kit it's a great practice at other skills like repairing, scratch building etc. 😊😊

I also picked one of these up for £2.99 and mine shipped to the UK from Germany too. I've had mixed results from Mistercraft so far but at that price you can't have many complaints. Will be building mine sometime later in 2023.
my biggest and only complaint, price considered, are panel lines that look lice cut with hobby knife. This will set me back for few hours to fill and sand them :) Othar than this I cant complain, I just got my first airbrush and insted of practising on plastic milk bottles I may as well spray one of these ;) on my way to airbrush perfection
For £2.99 this is a steal. Wish I'd known about it before as Amazon don't seem to have any left.

Made one of these for my Cold War US wargaming collection. Pro modellers might sniff at it, but it was easy to stick together and robust for handling. I think mine was a fiver off eBay.

I think it a wonderful build for a beginner as it covers all the boo boos that can be found on a model kit but it’s not too difficult to clean up. Good find:)

Nice review! I bought this set too, for $2.5. It was my first time making a helicopter, so I wanted it to be cheap, and I had a lot of fun making it. I can say that it is more detailed than other mistercraft sets. (You can see the finished version of this AH-1 on my channel)

The canopy frame should stop before going over the top of the canopy. I know the AH1 very well indeed. I'd fill in all the panel lines if I were you. In scale those lines are big enough to get your hand in.

Great review ! Thank you for sharing. Not bad for the price, the reissue of the Matchbox and the Monogram kit is more expensive. The AH-1 G used the tail rotor in both sides, depend on the airframe. The early ones had them on the left and the later on the right. The Special Hobby kits gives you both tails. Hope you have a great week ! Cheers, Tony

@@shakeyhandsshedmodelrailwa2494 No is their own mold. I have all the 72nd AH-1G Monogram, Matchbox , AZ models , Special Hobby and this one . This was the first to have the tail part separate. The Special Hobby is the best followed by the AZ models. ( I think they are the same kit) I was lucky to get the AZ models joy pack, (3 kits , no decals for $17.) Hope you have a great week !
@@tonyperez4791 guys from Mistercraft and ZTS plastyk re-issue many things, but they make some changes so at first glance it looks like their own. For example these two issue Mig 19 with recessed lines, but this is for sure old Czech KP design. Mig 19 is so bad that I have decided to buy original KP re-issue by Smer.
I ordered it and the Vietnam plane. Hobbycraft is full of that range
Worth it for technique experiments... Only done 1 of their kits Hurricane MK 2 C years back done in Russian markings played around with making it look battle worn and used. Kit was old Heller could just make out from a sprue actually built up well, the decals looked rubbish, but had no intention of using. These re box kits for the money can be quite good . I did a Lysander by Eastern Express old Frog moulding turned out pretty good again though used after market decals. It can be very satisfying building an old kit and getting a good result ...

me and cheap kits dont seem to mix well at the moment and by god this was cheap
honestly the tooling would have me pulling out my hair in frustration but its £2.99 and thats less than a pint of beer these days so i dont think you can complain

Ok I yield and about this kit. Thought I'd crack it out this week for a quick palette cleansing build. I must be blind or something but I can find the mini gun on the sprue. The sprue map has numbers missing but I look at all the parts and still can't find it. At this scale I can just make up a small bit of plastic rod but my word it's annoying. Get what you pay for I guess!

Another way to think about it is to ask if the £6 Aldi/Lidl Airfix specials are twice as good as this? Probably given they are better quality and come with paints, glue and a brush. Still, this is less than the price of a coffee so why not!
Good question/point..... I've done a few of the ALDI/LIDL planes and I'd rather buy them, even if I don't need the paints brush and glue, as you're mostly getting newish tooling and kits that don't really need much hard work.
Don't Know if this has been said before but that looks suspiciously like a copy of the 1970s Matchbox AH-1kit.

Interesting that those panel lines would be projecting outward in the mold so any extra metal would be easy to rectify in the mold. Mastercraft do an interesting 1/48 Su-7BKL Fitter but here in the states its $30 but you have to pay $48.94 shipping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Most of their kits are garbagio but I still bought them all because with a little work you can actually shine the turd!

This model is a Polish copy of Matchbox made by Centaur in the early 90s. Mistercraft take over the forms of this model.

For that price it's an alright kit. I've never done a helicopter so I might buy this one sometime. Mistercraft kits usually are a bit shitty but most of the time cheap enough to not complain about it.
Price is key.. coz if you paid a tenner you would probably cry!! But i can still see the build being an arse ache to build

If you look at your recent kits MOS, you've done some very affordable builds - this is cool when you get some people moaning about the cost of modelling.

The character depicted on Squatter Swatter is an indistinct blob. A painting of this particular aircraft was on the cover of Squadron's book Gunslingers in Action, printed in 72 or 73. Timujin Ship was on a 32nd scale Micro Scale decal sheet from the 70s; just found mine a few years back after it had gone missing for 30 + years!
Those panel lines are rough! 2001 tooling but being Mistercraft it is what it is. Price paid is a fair reflection of the kit, in my view anyway.

Hi MOS did you know this kit is actually the old Matchbox kit and I did a video in box review of the Matchbox offer and the sprues are identical but far more crisp in the matchbox offer

I know it's a clone cos it's cast from a matchbox mould but the cast is responsible for a serious issue around the tail rotor hub as you will find to your dismay unless they have corrected this

@@johnparker1696 This is not made with Matchbox molds. I have the Matchbox kit right now in front of me, and comparing eg. the air intake proportions at 7:51 are different. The sprue lay out is a crude clone of matchbox, but Matchbox sprues are flat with rectangular number slats.
Hobbycraft do a wide range of these kits from Mistercraft, including a FAW9 Javelin

I really dont know the history of this helicopter
COBRA CAME ON COMBAT IN 67,THEY WERE TEAM UP AS PAIR TO COVER THE HUEY LANDING TROOPS.
@@ewmhop Cobras also flew high cover for the LOACH (Little Birds in today's jargon) as they trolled above the tree line hoping to draw enemy fire. (Known as a Hunter-Killer team when paired up like this). When fired upon, the door gunner on the LOACH would toss out a (usually red) smoke grenade, the pilot would exit the area with the tail pointing towards the smoke (indicating where the fire had come from) while calling the Cobras to roll in-- as soon as the LOACH cleared! After a few runs, the LOACH would go back in and check things out; repeat as necessary. After a while, the VC/NVA didn't fire on the low flying LOACHES because it inevitably meant that Cobras were going to ruin your day.
In the early 70s, the Marines sent their twin engined Sea Cobras over to Vietnam for trials, where they performed well.

i have built a couple of Mistercraft kits and i have to say this , they have the worst decals i have ever used. They dont even work with micro set or sol. The more you move them around , the more they crack.

Hobby craft sell this brand in london shops so it is available here although they want £11 for the others 😂

Mister/Master Craft models (made in Poland I think) have always had beautiful box-art, but the contents are crap… ok for kids starting out in the hobby, guess. If one spends 5-20 hours on a project, a price tag of a couple quid is a stupid thing to rave about; generally you get what you pay for

Wouldn't waste my time building a kit that, no matter how much work you put into it, is pretty inaccurate when completed. I'm a helicopter fan, especially when it comes to the Huey/Cobra family, so this would be an abomination to add to my collection.

I've seen much finer (more subtle) scribing on 1/32 kits. Could do with a complete fill-in and re-scribe.
For a very low budget modeller only. For me its a bad kit

tut tut tut ,, amatures ,, you'd need a guide dog not to recognize that kit ,,, no doubts what so ever the 1970s matchbox AH1 COBRA kit sussed it as soon as i saw the sprues at 3.41 ,,,,,, 3 quid for an ex matchbox kit ,,, result
Its not a matchbox tooling.. Its deffo a stolen copy of the matchbox kit but its not a matchbox tooling

It's definitely not the original tooling. The original Matchbox kit had much better panel lines and sharpness. What I believe is they copied the tooling but ended up losing some of the details. They then had someone try and recreate the details by hand which is why the details are sloppy. The detail on the rotor blades doesn't even match up with each other and is very soft. If you look at the matchbox version they match perfectly and are sharp. Details don't change that much when using the same tooling. Only a different tooling could be that different.

@@MOS6510Models It would be an interesting comparison though, comparing a clone to the original. We see tools being re-released over and over again by different manufactuers. A clone though is very different. Would the parts even fit with the originals or would the tollerances between them be off.
It's a shit kit as it's not what I expected the kit to be as they should have better quality control and not let mistakes happen like the overlap of them panel lines. Peace and happy modeling!
