I've been using the “faint phoebe” whistle to call my dogs and cats for years. Never realized until this video I probably got it from hearing all the chickadees around.
Definitely my favorite year-around yard bird. Such great personalities and comical nature, Ive had more close interactions with these birds than any other. No matter if its while sitting in a tree stand or even hunting off the ground, they are so inquisitive and trusting when you are sitting still. Ive had them land on my arrow shaft, my bow limbs, my knee, my gun barrel, my boot and my hands, and once even on the bill of my hat. It bent right over and looked me in the eye, inches away, and I think it laughed at me. I treasure that memory as one of my alltime top 3 Things That Happened While In The Woods list. Great vid Lesley, thanks again..
I have one that keeps coming in my house when the balcony door is open, it's been in 4 times, it finds its way back out no problem when I encourage it to because I have (had) an old cat. I'm suprised at how comfortable it seems to be with coming in doors.

I have heard the begging dee a lot in the last week as the young ones follow their parents from tree to tree in our yard. They are so much fun to watch. Thank you for this video. I love Chickadees.
We have a twin species here in the western Florida panhandle (the Carolina Chickadee). The call I usually don't hear from them is the "Fee-bee". These cute little birds are also plenty common here.
Chickadees are some of my favorite birds (they are just so cute and so sweet), and it's always such a joy to see your videos on them! Thank you so much for sharing your love of chickadees with us.
LOVE THEM! Well, we get both here in MD but mostly Carolina chickadees where I am in Southern MD. They are so similar it doesn’t make much difference to me which, love them both. Two pairs nested in 2 of my nest boxes (interesting story on how and what boxes they chose) and one set fledged last weekend. The other is prob gonna be ready in another 3-5 days. So glad they both made it. My blue birds lost 4 babies to hypothermia on Mother’s Day due to 48 hours of nonstop rain and a severe drop in temp despite my best efforts. I cried all day. They are trying again tho, started laying yesterday morning. Thank you for your wonderful videos. 🥰
I just wanted to thank you for this video! I have had a lit of Black Capoed Chickadees this spring, and this video helped me understand what they were saying. Turns out, they are using a birdhouse that I have on my balcony this year! They kept doing their alert call as they were coming back to their nest to feed their babies. 😊

I love the chickadee-dee-dee-dee call. They give it to me sometimes because I am a Godzilla in their eyes. I also love the faint Fee-bee. I once chickadee frozen for 15 minutes with a seed in its mouth on our Sandcherry, because of a Raptor threat. It was incredible. They are so tiny and still, in those moments of threat, that even on a leafless tree or shrub, you wouldn't see them unless you look for them.

Wish they stayed around longer as I remember we only see them in spring and fall...only guessing where they're off to next...Thanks Lesley!
I love them. We see them everyday at the bird feeders we have for wild birds. They are friendly and sing constantly. Thank you for the informative video.

Also I'm amazed at how detailed the analysis is of each call is.. The who, what, when, how and why each call is made! Fascinating and so pleasing. Thankyou!
Some of my observations: if they are saying hi to you, possibly when you are hand feeding, they will tend to make the more high pitched tseet sound. Maybe they think of you as friend or possibly part of the flock? The other things is, they will make a single flat dee sound if they are either impatient or annoyed at something. It can also be used as a greeting, but more of a "hurry up and refill the feeder" type of greeting. Anybody else notice these sounds or have other observations to share?

I’ve been hearing the faint fee-bee in my yard. It’s actually quite loud. I’ve been wondering which bird was making it, because we have many species. This is wonderful to know it’s the chickadee, one of my two favourite birds!
Fascinating and so informative. I had no idea they had so many different calls for different purposes. Found the Faint Fee bee especially interesting since it is used by both sexes and serves many purposes for the parents. Also very interesting to learn about the High Zee and that other bird species understand its meaning too.
Thanks Lesley, this is such a great video. Raised in Oregon, we had Chickadees seemingly everywhere so they were an early favorite of mine. @@LesleytheBirdNerd I agree! Alarm calls always worry me!! One day there was a cute female American Goldfinch sitting on my feeder. Great. Enjoyed it. Plenty in western Maine
I love chickadees! They are sometimes the bravest! Certainly entertaining! My favorite sounds are the chick-a-dee-dee & fee bee. My mother's favorite bird as well. She adored them. Her name was Phoebe!!! 😊
That's so sweet about your mom being named, Phoebe and her favorite bird being chickadees, which sing a phoebe song. Love that 🥰
Love all these videos lately, 😊 thank you for sharing Lesley!
I so enjoy your videos. They are so well done and the bonus of your particular voice, which is very easy to listen to.
I don’t see these magnificent little creatures too often, but I saw one in my backyard the other day. So adorable. Thanks for this video! Very beautiful and educational. Subscribed. 🪹🙂
