  • If your laptop / netbook keeps switching itself off or shutting down in under 1 min try this simple fix before you send it away for repair. It may not be broken but have a failing dusty fan.
    Hope this works for you.

      LOL. This was back in the day when i had a simple non digital camcorder with no editing. This video had taken me about 8 tries to get through without making a mistake. By the time i shot this my mouth was as dry as a Nuns chuff.

    YOU JUST SAVED ME $180!! This problem has happened to me before. Had it fixed. cost me too much in my opinion. had my data backed up and computer "fixed." Now it happened again. Tried your advice and IT WORKED. I'm running it upside down though in fear the fan may stop working again. Backing up my data on an external drive as i write this. THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH! For the money it would've cost me to "fix" it, i will buy a new one. thanks again!!!!!!

    I received my old Aspire One back from my brother a few days ago who had it for a few years, and it was so filthy beyond words that I had to clean it out immediately. After the cleaning was done I continued to boot the netbook as normal, but during boot it just shut down.
    I think you saved me a few hours of headache here. I apparently had forgotten to plug the fan back in. You need to disassemble the entire netbook to get access to the fan, Disassembled the netbook, and there it was :)
    Thanks!

    So I was shaking my head when I heard the 'tap and blow' recommendation! I have an Acer with the exact same issue that has not worked in MANY years! I was at the point of tearing it apart since I could not find out how to safely open it until I found a walk thru on ifixit which allowed me to open and clean everything that was dusty using compressed air. Sadly it still had the same issue and I was assuming it was the fan that was dead. I tapped the back of the laptop as recommended, but I used a bit more force ;) and wow....its working!!! The HDD was making a very ugly clicking but I'm guessing it was due to not spinning in over 5 or more years! A reboot fixed it and as of now, Xp is running once again! :D Thanks for posting this video Fred! Now I have two more computers to bring back from being dead for years :P

    I only recommend to lightly tap the area to loosen dust. Once you get to this stage and this does not work your looking at disassembly anyway, however this is beyond a lot of people and they will end up binning the netbook. Thanks for your feedback.

    Rem to do the tapping first then blow through some air as the tapping help remove fine dust from the fan. Go easy with the air can as they are quite powerfull. Best of luck.

    No worries.
    Its a fault with the fan iam affraid. Mine has run strong for over 9 months now since i sprayed it with compressed air. If it keeps going down you may have to take off the back and give the fan rotor a good clean. At worse a new fan can be bought on E Bay for around £25. Best of luck.

    Hi, Are you talking about the "pinch and zoom" function along with the scroll on the touch pad ?
    Problem your going to have is the Acer One is really meant for XP so you may have to try other Acer laptop drivers and see if one works.
    If you google " Acer One Windows 7 touch pad drivers" there is some chat on forum's to read.
    I think i would go to the Main Acer support site and download a few drivers. Best of luck.

    Your issues *could* be software based. You could try F10 at boot and performing a System Recovery. The best part, is that it is one solution that requires very little technical knowledge on your part, to make it happen. You MUST !!!! back up the data (pictures, documents, etc) that you want to keep, turn off the laptop, turn it back on, and hit F10 repeatedly during the Acer logo to start the process.
    If it is hardware based, like Bad Ram for example, this takes a bit more to diagnose. Cheers

    Yes in affect it still in there but you have moved it away from the cooling fan rotor. The tolerence on the fan must be very tight on these models. The next logical step would be to remove the back and hover it all out. Ive not bothered with mine though :o)

    I would try to re- flash the Bios. If you google you should find a step by step guide for your machine. What you do is download the new Bios file and place it on a usb stick drive and set the computer to boot from that via the boot first options. This will install an updated Bios. Best I can do. Good luck.

    @ GD . If you are pressing F2 to get into the BIOS screen and it comes up, you need a password. Your BIOS is password protected fairly simple job. If you know what you're doing, remove all the cover and inside you will find a small battery remove the battery for about 20 seconds, then reinstall the battery, that will remove your BIOS protection password, if you're not confident doing it yourself. Take it to a repair shop. They can do that in 15 minutes. No problem. Hopefully this helps, sorry for butting in Fred my friend

    Not too sure tbh. How long does the computer work in the bios screen ? If the fan is shuttting once the operating system ( i assume Windows) is loading it could be some kind of a driver problem. You may need to re-install the operating system.

    @CB-RADIO-UK  11 років тому

  • @CB-RADIO-UK
    @CB-RADIO-UK  11 років тому

    Acer normally have a built in software reset function. It varies from model you will need to google. It will be something like pressing ctrl and f10 over and over again whilst it boots.
    Can you actually hear the fan working as it could be that. Finally you may need a bios update. You will need a usb pen stick for this and change the computer to boot from that first. Once again all in google. Best of luck.

    If it does not turn off in BIOS then its most likely a software problem / virus.
    Try a windows roll back to a earlier time when you knew it was ok.
    If it stills shuts down you may have to go into Acer Recovery and try a total reset.

      Hello, glad it worked. Not quite sure what you mean by capacitive tech ? To me capacitive means something like a touch screen or mouse pad ? Anyway if the fan stops due to dust build up the laptop will automatically turn off to prevent overheating. ;-)

      fredintheshed1 Oh, I was referring to the 2nd technique that you showed where you take off the battery and hold the power button for about 40 seconds. Anyway, thanks again! :)

      Janah Monsanto Got you. This is to totally discharge the power circuit. Sometimes works but did not for me as my fan was sticking.
