I would also enjoy seeing a video about wood type. I'd like to learn how to identify local woods. Thank you.

What type/ make of spoon knife do you use. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the support! I’ve used a couple of brands, mora and pfiel are good, I’m using mora in this video. If you haven’t used the spoon knife before I’d recommend getting one that’s not as expensive though, mainly so you can get used to sharpening the tool before you buy a more expensive one. Hope that helps! 😀👍

Hi! it's nice to see the face of the man behind the camera!
I'm not very experienced in spoon carving (yet) but I've come to the same point that carving the bowl across the grain, going to the center gives me the best result and a cleaner result.
I really like the wood corner of your workshop🥰 would be nice if you make some videos about wood; wood types, wood storage...
And as always thanks for the video C:

Hi, I have just started carving. How old should the ideal Hazel wood be to carve so that it will not crack. I have saved some hazel for walking sticks and most of them have cracked after one year.

A good trick I learnt is to coat the end grains in paraffin wax, this helps prevent further moisture getting into the wood while it’s curing, if woods going to be stored for a long time it’s best to do this. Another tip is to make sure the area where you’re curing the wood has a consistent temperature, is dry and isn’t going from hot and cold too quickly, this can cause the wood to expand and contract too much which can cause cracks as well or that the area isn’t just too hot as again this can remove moisture too fast from the wood. Hope that helps! 😊👍👍

Where did you get the template from? Great video!

Thank you! I drew the templates myself out of card then used them to trace the outlines on the wood 😊👍
