thank you for the video, as a non-technical spinner myself i've also really struggled to explain how i work to other people- for what it's worth though i think your approach works really well, and i find your videos very calming. in case you're interested, i believe the tub of joy is pina colada, which is a merino, mulberry silk and pinapple fibre blend!
Hi Becca, I hope you're OK xx ❣️❣️❣️ Thankyou so much for sharing this video podcast, your expertise and for the inspiration, all of which are very much appreciated. 🌟🌟 Your Socks look amazing 🎉🎉🧦🧦 I agree, Sock 🧦 Knitting is addictive, althiugh I haven't made any for a while. I haven't spun Shetland before, but now I think I need to try and spin a Sock Yarn, ( something I've not tried before)., both will be a new venture. I really need to practice the shirt forward draw as its something I really struggle with, but an extra reason to get it right. Hope you're having a Wonderful Week ☀️🌞 Happy Spinning and Knitting Fibre Friend 🎡🐑🥰🥰 Take care and stay safe Lots of love and Big Hugs Jen xxxx ❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🫂🫂🫂🫂🐕

I think it's possible to get a little too hung up on the technicalities of spinning. If you are producing a yarn that does what you want it to do, e.g. knit up nicely into a pair of socks, then you've got it right. I've watched several videos of people who are part of an unbroken line of spindle spinners (in more isolated parts of the world) and their spinning is not "perfect". It is a bit lumpy in places (quite a lot of them use long draw techniques which do tend to have the odd slub) but they are producing a yarn that meets their needs. One video showed the wool the women had spun then being woven into a twill fabric that was then used to make a style of beret that is popular in the area where it was being made. The end result looked good, with the unevenness of the spinning simply adding a little texture to the fabric. So, if being technical about your spinning makes you happy, go for it but there's nothing wrong with a more intuitive approach.
Thanks!
Thank you so much for your kind support 🙏

Who needs perfect spinning when you can have a bit of texture and character in your yarn? Embrace the lumps and bumps!
