    I think this helped me a lot. It's true that nobody knows everything, and that there are no cookie-cutters in Martial Arts, but a Martial Artist's skill is like an infinite puzzle that's always in need of more pieces. So see if what you're watching in a piece you haven't placed yet.

    You make some good points, however I disagree with 2 things: 1) You said that even if you are the best BJJ guy don't take him to the ground, but if the other guy is a BJJ guy he will do everything to take it to the ground, to the point he will drop to the ground from a nothing shot, if he thinks he has more control on the ground. 2) If you really are an MMA fighter rather than just a boxer (I know you are not - you are great at muay thai, I have seen some of your other videos) hit him with a hard punch like that, why not use leg kicks or body kicks like a tip or a jumping knee or a tiip. I feel if I went in for a load of punches and he is a wrestler he would love that because it is easier to take me down. You are right about controlling them, just I would say close punches against the cage is the most dangerous finish and you must have rocked them really hard. Your thoughts please?

    • @VinceCachero
      @VinceCachero 6 років тому +4

      1) I don't really get what you're saying. This video is on what to do when you rock your opponent. If there's an option to finish with strikes from an advantageous position, take it. In my opinion, if you're a good BJJ guy and you rock your opponent, only go for a submission if it's a 99% sure thing otherwise it's easier to just keep striking from a controlled position. 2) Yup you can certainly do those things too. It's actually easier for a wrestler to take you down when you throw kicks because you're giving them a leg to grab and you're only balanced on one leg. I'm not saying you can't kick, but you better be sure it's well timed and well placed. Just because you're closer throwing hands, it doesn't mean it's easier for someone to take you down. Stay balanced, throw controlled shots, and you're golden.

    Shane can you do a video on hooks for boxing? Most people at my gym throw the hook with their thumb pointing the ceiling, but I feel more comfortable with my thumb facing me (90 degrees from how they punch). I think the hook with the thumb facing up has better power. Can you do a short video with your thoughts?

    • @vitorbueno4301

      From what i gathered in all my research of this topic in the internet, it depends on the distance. The further you are from your opponent, the more inward you turn your arm.

    • @FadeStrategy

      I've never heard of anyone throwing hooks with the thumb down, that just messes up your shoulder and makes you lose power. Perhaps you are thinking of an overhand?

      Jack dempsey has a pretty good book that explains a little bit of that... Its called championship fighting... Ive heard mike tyson loved jack dempsey style and used his book too... It starts saying "a baby can knock out a grown man if it has enough momentum" and follows it with more crazy stories and some racist outdated slang and the best explanations ever in how to punch

    FWIW Cowboy Cerrone does the rock em then when they panic takedown OR when they get knocked down, he runs in and locks up a submission. That's a very valid technique. Obviously, he's not just wrestling to try and take the opponent down a la andre soukamthv Sean o malley. But he is indeed going for a jiujitsu submission, when the position is simply gifted to him (I.e. mount from a knockdown)

      HavokStrifeX Learning new things and develop as a fighter and a person is better than just staying in the same situation. If the guys from Alpha male were really good friends of TJ, they would have been supportive that TJ went out there and learned new stuff to improve his fighting game. Working with Duane Ludwig has taken TJ's fighting game to a whole new level.

      Right. But when they're hurt, I'm curious if they would employ any different tactics to finish the fight. Eg there are no time limits, so, maybe they might consider immobilization. There are no gloves, so they might employ different strikes than punches etc.

    Hey there! I was thinking of starting a self defense martial art but I am not quite sure which one to take up. I was thinking of kick boxing but is it even good for self defense? Would judo or krav maga be better? Can someone explain the differences between such sports/martial arts along with their benefits? Thanks

    • @brachavo1833
      @brachavo1833 6 років тому

      Boxing/Kickboxing/Muay Thai/Karate/TKD is more for fighting someone who has a backup. When your opponent is with his friends, going to the ground is the worst mistake. They can easily torture and brutally attack you.
      BJJ/Judo/Wrestling is more for 1 on 1 combat. If you encounter someone in a private place and it's only the two of you fighting, ground fighting is very useful. Although you can also use your striking to knock him out without going to the ground.
      Krav Maga/Kali/Weapon Martial Arts is more for weapon defense. There's not much proof whether it works but you never know unless you try.

    • @nikolasbrizolas135
      @nikolasbrizolas135 6 років тому

      Thank you! May I also ask what the difference between Kick Boxing and Muay Thai is ? and which would you suggest?

    • @brachavo1833
      @brachavo1833 6 років тому

      Nikolas Brizolas Kickboxing is punches and kicks. Muay Thai is kicks, punches, knees and elbows. I don't know about the rules because I just do BJJ and boxing but that's the difference from what I know. I'd suggest Muay Thai it's more technical and you'll learn to use more weapons like your knees and elbows. It's more brutal and dangerous though, elbow strikes to the face is no joke.
