This shouldnt be a movie... it should be a series honouring the book in its full capacity.
The British version of 8 episodes is coming also this year .
@sinisamajdandzic1362 No frickinng wayy
There's a four-part series starring Gerard Depardieu that was released in the late 1990s which brings much of the texture of Dumas's writing to the screen. I can't recall who released it but it aired more than once on Bravo in the early-mid 2000s.
@@rizzyknowsyes , starring Sam Claflin as the count and Jeremy Irons as Abbé Faria
There is the 1964 BBC miniseries with Alan Badel, there is the French miniseries Le Comte de Monte Cristo (1979) with Jacques Weber and directed by Denys de La Patellière who is the father of Alexandre de La Patellière who is one of the directors of this film.
There is the 1998 French miniseries with Gerard Depardieu.
There will also be a miniseries this year with Sam Claflin and Jeremy Irons.
Perhaps the best revenge story ever written
Aside of Mathias Sandorf
Aside Maximus Decimus Meridius
Oldboy OLDBOY
Agreed. ❤
Still thinks Denglars is punished way too lightly when he's the main culprit of all three.
France's great story, committed to film by the French, as it should be. I hope this plays in the UK. A must-see in the cinema.
It should be played in UK like for the three musketeers
I hope it plays in the US.
@@danicleckley5404😂😂😂only in the 1950s cinema.
@@danicleckley5404 I'm hoping, too. It's my favorite Dumas story.
I hope they can make Dantès and Haydée together. After all, this is the ending of the original work.
I just read that book for the 6th time since I was 12 years old. And I’m 43 now. Each time I’ve read it I learn more and it means something new and different to me. IMO the greatest work of fiction ever written.
Same here !
Agree
Even better than the Holy Bible?!
Same! I tried to find novels similar to this but only in vain! There's nothing that can come even remotely close 😢
This is only book I read in my life where I was so into the story that I routinely missed my train stop. I just could not put it down.
I hope this is available to view in the US. Count of Monte Christo is my favorite Dumas story.
Mine too. Have read it so many times. Watched the other movie versions of this story too.
Samuel Goldwyn Films acquired U.S. rights. so it will be.
@@rashedahadi3585 Very good news.
"Dans Le Comte de Monte-Cristo, un revenge movie épique sélectionné hors compétition à Cannes (sortie le 28 juin), elle est Haydée, orpheline missionnée par Edmond Dantès (Pierre Niney) pour séduire le fils de son pire ennemi."
Haydee will not be from the East, she will be from Eastern Europe, as the actress said in an interview.
There will be a miniseries with Sam Claflin as Edmond and Jeremy Irons.
This adaptation must be faithful.
According to the variety
"Mediawan is handling worldwide distribution rights to “The Count of Monte Cristo,” in cooperation with CAA (for North America), and with the participation of Entourage."
I hope it is available everywhere!
One of the most awaited french movies of this year.
The Count of Monte Cristo is my favorite book !!!
It is because I heard many things about the Count of Monte Cristo since he was a child.
So, I decided to buy the book one day and read it all !!!
After searching through many bookstores in my city, I found it and it was very difficult because after a couple of hours I realized that it was an out-of-print book.
When I bought it, I was reading it on the bus on the way from my house to school and vice versa.
I wasn't bored reading it in the least and it got interesting as the book progressed until I have finished it. Definitely, the best book that I've ever read 👍
My favorite parts are when Edmundo finds the treasure on the island of Monte Cristo and when he starts to reward the people who were loyal to him.
Also when Monte Cristo reveals to Maximilian Morrel that he helped his father and family in the past. Consequently, Maximilian and his sister hugged Monte Cristo
I have always wanted to see a production, whether TV or film, that perfectly expresses what is interpreted in the book.
I really liked Jim Caviezel's movie, but it doesn't express the ending well because Monte Cristo stays with Haydee and not Mercedes.
As I once heard, Hollywood prefers a happy ending; but that is not the point because there were also flaws in the end of the count's enemies
In addition to other things such as the absence of important characters such as Haydee, Maximiliano Morrel and Villefort's daughter
Danglars does not end up imprisoned for theft of merchandise as happens in the movie. Danglars was a banker and ends up bankrupt and without family
Fernando was never Edmundo's best friend, and Edmundo does not kill him with a sword. The book tells that Fernando commits suicide after losing his wife, his son, and his social prestige.
Villefort does not end up imprisoned for the death of his father, but rather he goes crazy due to so many recent emotions and regrets from the past.
I have seen the trailer for this movie and it looks incredible because apparently it follows everything related to the book.
I say this because characters that I did not see in previous productions such as Haydee and Maximilian, they appear in this trailer and besides the sets and recorded scenes are also impressive.
My favorite scene of this trailer was when the Count of Monte Cristo fought several men at the same time.
In advance, many congratulations for this enormous production that I'm pretty sure it's going get excited all the fans of the Count of Monte Cristo and make them very happy !!!
My two favorite parts of the book was when Edmond in the port riding a boat bid farewell to humanity, kindness and gratitude he said. He continued to say that farewell to all goodness that gladdens the heart. Edmond continued declare that I have taken my place as substitute for Providence in rewarding the good ( addressing to Monsieur Morrell). Now, may the GOD of vengeance yield me His place to punish the wicked.
And the other one was when to told Danglars after everything that I forgive you, for I too ,needs to be forgiven.
❤
Looks phenomenal! Cast, cinematography, script. My favorite book, my favorite story! Can't wait❤
Looks promising
dude I hope this comes to American theaters as well this looks amazing
I would love to see this in theater
This looks incredible. Thank God some American studio didn't pick this up for some modern spin on it.
I'm afraid they did. There was a movie made in 2002. It's still in the appropriate period though, but its all British and American actors.
Yes, I notice a distinct lack of *The Message* in this trailer
@@ThomasLeonardStudioThat version was great but it wasn't a faithful adaptation, they completely forgot about Haydee and how he falls in love again, this looks great and a more faithful adaptation but I'm not convinced with the main actor, he doesn't seem to have the charisma of Jim Caviezel, you need an actor with insane charisma to portray this character.
I hope this film isn't a mediocre attempt to imitate Homer's The Odyssey, bringing together Edmond and Mercedes like Ulysses and Penelope. Just like the miniseries with Depardieu and the film with Jim Caviezel. I place the 2002 adaptation as the worst adaptation of the book.
That final scene of Fernand and Edmond dueling was lame. Fernand was wanted, he was supposed to have fled like Cassius and Brutus who immediately left Rome after the crowd wanted to lynch them because of Caesar's death, Antony and Augustus went after them.
There will also be an Italian television miniseries in English-language with Sam Claflin as the count.
Just as Julius Caesar has the intelligent and determined Cleopatra, the count has Haydee as a companion who is determined to take revenge and is very cultured.
When Cleopatra appears in Caesar's room, she impresses him with her culture and intelligence. The count was on another level and Mercedes was just a hick with expensive clothes. In addition to having married the count's greatest enemy. Haydee was a girl who had a better cultural background, she even knew other languages like Count.
@@ThomasLeonardStudiola version de 2002 avec Jim Caviezel était encore meilleure que le livre
Dantes was imprisoned because he was falsely accused of being a Napoleonic party, and because Napoleon's restoration failed, he could not overturn his conviction. The background of this story is very interesting.
He was never convicted, he was falsely imprisoned without trial.
Pathé did justice to the Three Musketeers remake, and this is looking like being just as marvelous 👌🏾👌🏾
I hope they can make Dantès and Haydée together. After all, this is the ending of the original work.
Sadly no :( I'm really mad
@@daariaa1790 The Japanese manga version follows the book.
@@daariaa1790wait how do you know that?
@@Melinoe1831nowadays u can find all the new movies on internet, didn t u know that.
Super stoked for this. has to be one of my favorite books of all time. I really hope they make his final revenges on everyone more like that book. Especially Villefort his was pretty messed up lol
My favorite movie by far. I prefer Jim Caviezel’s Edmond but we shall see how this goes
Yes
it IS NOT A MOVIE!!!
Jim Caviezel is a huge antisemite. I'll never watch his version again.
This director and writer team of Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière
did a phenomenal job with the recent Three Musketeers films and
this film promises to be as great as those two films are.
"Dans Le Comte de Monte-Cristo, un revenge movie épique sélectionné hors compétition à Cannes (sortie le 28 juin), elle est Haydée, orpheline missionnée par Edmond Dantès (Pierre Niney) pour séduire le fils de son pire ennemi."
Haydee will no longer be a princess from the East, she will be an orphan from Eastern Europe. The actress who plays Hsydee said she would be from Romania.
Kind of disappointing. I expected her to be a kind of Caesar and Cleopatra, a union of the two against a common adversary and at the same time they become lovers.
I've watched all the existing versions.. can't wait to watch this one
I loved this book so much, hopefully this is a more faithful adaptation
This looks epic! And so beautifully made. 🤩 Can’t wait to see a new version of this story in cinemas!
Can't wait! Looks really good!
A new French film about the Count of Monte-Cristo, I hope this film arrives here in Brazil too.
🙏🏻
I just hope that the screenwriter will not mess with the plot and characters, especially forcing the male protagonist to get back together with his old flame.
The three enemies in the original work were all defeated in the areas they were most familiar with, and they were all destroyed by their own greed. The male protagonist also let go of the past after taking revenge and was with his new lover.
Époustouflant. Qu'ils respectent la fin du roman d'Alexandre Dumas et tout ira déjà mieux que 90% de toutes les adaptations cinématographiques depuis 1908...❤
PS: Loving Pierfrancesco Favino as Abbé Faria
Le film est très fidèle, y compris la fin.
@@MickeyKuyo Really? Who is Haydee's lover?
The fate of the three enemies in the novel is very exciting, but almost all the movies or TV versions have dramatic changes and are not as interesting as the original work.
The cowardly soldier who stole the protagonist's wife eventually lost his wife and son and died by his own gun.
The prosecutor who violated the law was destroyed in court and eventually went crazy.
The greedy banker who made shady money went completely bankrupt and experienced the pain of living without money.
Basically, Dante defeats his enemies in the environment they are most familiar with, allowing them to be destroyed by their own greed. This is the essence of the story.
MINEZ A UN TETE DE RAT IL EST MINUS UN GRINGALET
It's hard nowadays to get excited for new adaptations of classic works; however as a huge fan of the book this looks promising.
Wow, this looks so gooooooood! I can't wait. There's nothing more satisfying than a great revenge story.
This looks insanely good! Can’t wait to see it in theaters theater!
The best version that I have seen so far according to this preview. Very much looking forward to seeing it.

Don't know why, but for the moment I don't really see him as Monte-Cristo. But Lafitte as Villefort, that should be great.

Hope this one is as good as the first starring Jim Caviezel, and a guy Pierce. One of my favourite movies!!
the film is based on the book. The first adaptation is from 1918 in a French adaptation. And the 2002 film is a fanfic of the book. a rich man like the count would never return to his ex-fiancée. He would have a young and beautiful lover like Caesar had Cleopatra. And that's what happened in the book.

I love the book which is deeper and more complex than a film can really do justice, but I'm really looking forward to seeing this. Hopefully better than the Hollywood version, which I do like but it's missing too much.
How do we fit a 1000 page novel into 120 page screeplay. Each word in that book has meaning. Good luck to the makers, can't wait.

Depardieu didn't even bother to lose weight to look the part, and Edmond is supposed to be a handsome man
I loved the book when I read it as a teen. The last film that starred Cavizel, guy pierce, and very young (and very skinny) Henry Cavill didn't do the book justice. I hope this film manages to capture what the other film missed
it's interesting I always hear this, but I had real trouble getting through the book. It just was....very dense. I did not get far enough to call the book bad or worse. Objectively its known as one of the greatest stories, so I missed something...all that being said I love that movie. I dont have context on what got missed and where shortcomings were, but it seemed that it captured a lot of it...i THINK the book had more consequences for Dante taking too much obsession of revenge, but I'm not sure.
The movie as a standalone piece of fiction i think is very successful. That being said would be curious how this move does!
The 2002 adaptation looks like a poorly written copy of The Odyssey: Edmond will be Ulysses, Mercedes will be Penelope, and Albert will be Telemachus.
The screenwriter thought he wanted to convey Homer's message in The Odyssey, but ended up writing a parody of The Odyssey.
I thought the movie was very entertaining, i still do. It's one of them rewatchable movies.
This is wild I just started reading the book. Welp guess I’m gonna have to read faster
