I’ve just recently been getting into the series! I’ve only played 3 of the games so far but I’m really enjoying all of them!
12 years and going strong! Curious Village wasn't released in Australia until 2008.

This was the game that started my entire career in music.
I was just a normal kid listening to what was on the radio but one day I buyed a DS , I saw layton played on youtube so I installed last specter on my DS. It was like the third song that played man. I was flabbergasted. I was like. Idk what genre that is but 1 day am gonne play that. I listened the living shit out of every layton song and also got into jazz and blues. I picked up guitar.
6 years later and am playing now blues and jazz on a professional level with my band. Sometimes between all the blues and jazz classics I like to throw a good old Layton song in. People mostly are like wtf. 😂 . But yeah. Tnx tomohito.

Its the same Thing that happened to me! I played through the Box of Pandora and all i wanted was to know whoo the composer of the end screen song was. I know how me and my dad always played through the game again and again (the end scene) just to roll the credits to see who whrote the song. When we had it, my dad played it on my mp3 player and I listened to nothing else from that point on. I still love it sso much

Not liking all types of tea is extremely unlikely. Try other kinds of tea or even change the ammount of sugar you put in it.
You can prepare certain infusions with honey too. Anyway the point is, there's probably a type of tea waiting for you somewhere.
Most under-rated series in my opinion. The original trilogy was soooooo good and last specter was an incredible standalone. Haven't gone through all the new 3ds ones but everything I see is good. Thank you for making this comp. Exactly what I needed right now.

@@ProcrastinatingMasaYa yea exactly! I've seen a few concept move sets on UA-cam that are interesting and it'd be awesome. Announce it and have a remaster collection of all the games for switch that day *NNNNGH* heaven
Miracle Mask, Azran Legacy and vs PW:AA all have very, very strong emotional punches, they have their highs and lows, but I'd argue that when each of those three games gets to its high spots they overshadow everything except for Unwound Future maybe.
And the music is fantastic, as expected of the series

If Only they could keep the games alive on the switch. I know they have the games with Layton's daughter, but it just isn't the same without him
Exactly, my cousin has a switch and has the Layton's daughter game on it, I tried to play but it just wasn't as good, Hershel needs to be there or else it doesn't feel the same.
It just feels like the perfect port for the games. I hoped they would port them all to switch but the mobile games are good enough- hopefully they try and port the second triology too?
Highly recommend the "new" series. Be prepared to shed a tear there.

Lol got one of the movies on dvd and watched it with my mum and she asked "why didn't they make this as a game?" I literally said there wasn't enough puzzles. It ain't a professor Layton game without a million puzzles.

i grew up with yokai watch, absolutely obsessed with it. when i found out my dad played professor layton, a game by the same company, little me freaked the heck out, and i decided to try the games for myself, and oh my gosh, the soundtrack gave me chills. thank you dad, i wouldn’t have discovered this absolute gem without you.
I bought all Layton games that could be played on my oh so very old DSi XL recently, and replayed all of them for the sake of memories. I can't get over how much I love this game and our small little fandom is honestly so endearing. The Layton series is so old and we're still playing and enjoying music compilations and remixes like it's only yesterday we found out about it. The first time I had played any Layton game, was Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, it was in french, way before I could even speak English, my father didn't buy it, but rather downloaded it illegaly for me to play although I was literally 7 and the game was meant for 12 year olds and up, it took me 4 years to complete it by myself without any help. I find it hard to ignore any riddle or puzzle on social media or any other setting now, because no gentleman leaves a puzzle unsolved (I'm a girl however XD).

To be honest, I think this series is perfect as is. I'm sad there aren't anymore games sure, but this is one of those things that should be left alone, sitting on the shelf of the greatest games of its time. A remaster compilation for the switch would be nice, but as it is, it's perfect. It had one goal and it does it to an immaculate degree.

Ooooh the nostalgia. I remember getting professor Layton with my sister at Christmas and we just played the whole day, whole night, and nearly everyday after... We were so happy. Once in a while I remember I have them and play again. Soooo many memories... Welp, gotta get my 3ds out now

As much as I crave for more Layton, I think they let the series rest at a good moment. The original trilogy was just awesome, but I feel like the prequels kinda lost some of the original charme. The characters got better, but I missed the kinda steampunky style in the azran bits.
The last spectre felt like they wanted to make a sequel to Unwound Future (there is a post credits scene where Layton received a letter from Luke, talking about a mystery in his new hometown) but it ultimately just... wasn't.
Then I noticed the very blatant similarities of the last prequel and a ghibli movie, "The castle in the sky" it is, I think.
I feel like they were running out of ideas of what to do with the series, and further sequels, to the main trilogy or the sequels, could have been far below the standards of the other games.
@@Noooooone I remember a scene where Luke get on a boat but never understand what it was. I'm playing Katrielle right now and it feels very different, I haven't finished it yet so can't tell if it could be a nice future for the franchise.
I love every single games, the trilogies were awesome, the original trilogy was probably the most strong entries with solid storylines where the prequel was a bit behind but better interactive riddles.
I would love to be able to play it on switch with HD graphics and some readjustment for only one screen. I don't have NDS anymore and my games were stolen so I can only play it on emulator. Everytime I don't get the perfect version of the games and got visuals/sound bugs.
We probably won't see a Layton game for a long time, there is so much to tell I feel it's a waste
@@Lyrayfait The scene with Luke on the boat is explained during a sequence in Future London. His father has to move, presumably to a different country, for job reasons.
Did you know there are HD remakes of the original games on mobile. They're Premium games, but if you really wanna (re)play them, I'd say it's worth it.

Yeah I actually bought the first 3 games and played them recently, really nice they kept the game as good as before and make really smart small changes for the mobile version. I'm not a fan of mobile but it does the job pretty well. I love playing on big screen like computer or console (I had a 3DS XL before) so playing on smaller screen feels weird
Bruh, heck yeah. I never thought about it, but a remastered trilogy would be so good on Switch. Non even a remaster. Just a port.

What a strange experience... as "Walking in the village ~ Curious village" came on I remembered. Not like a normal memory, not with an image or a phrase, not seeing the game or seeing the place in which I played it, but I remembered with a feeling. The feeling of sitting on the couch, huddled up in the corner, headphones in and completely taken in by the game. Wandering through the village, not having a clue to what the fk was going on and how the mystery would be solved... The magic of being so drawn into a game, enjoying it so much, almost as if I didn't exist in the real world- not in a negative way but just... Not having so many cares and worries. That feeling, I can't remember when I last felt that. But now I feel something like it. So yeah.. thanks for uploading this. Really caught me off guard there.
I have many Nintendo fans, but not one of them has played a Professor Layton game besides me. Its nice to know that there are other fans out there. Its not the best video game series out there, but it is very underrated

It may be not "the best" series objectively but there are MANY reason to appreciate it over others. The aestethic (!!), the puzzles, maybe also the plots (even if they don't reach blockbuster level, with both dramatics and deep messages)... And really, the way the games have been done in general.
It's one of my fav game series of all time :)

Gosh I have so many fond memories about this franchise, and all are related to my mum in a way.
My mum and I used to play these games on our shared nintendo - she was waaaay better at solving puzzles than I was, but I had so much fun following the story and oh, the music!
My mother actually plays the piano and the accordeon - so whenever I listen to these OSTs (particularly the opening of the Diabolical/Pandora's Box, our first game) my mind goes to my mum immediately.
Mum, even though we don't always agree, I love you! Let's replay these games and solve some puzzles when we have the time, ok?

I understand your feelings. I used to play the games with mom too and she was also better than me so she helped me everytime I couldn't solve a puzzle. That were nice times I had and listening to this playlist gives me unbelievable nostalgic emotions and reminds me why I someday started to feel anime in a completely different way.

I’ve a bit of an odd story with this franchise. In early 2020, Just when school was closed to do virtual classes, a youtuber by the name of ludwig did a video where he and his chat made a music playlist. I was in 8th grade, and really looking forward to having a relaxed rest of the year, but that was taken away. I was hoping in those last couple of months to repair and strengthen certain friendships, but well, that opportunity was taken. Anyway back to the youtube video. The live original main theme song was one of the songs that was voted onto the playlist. There wasn’t much emphasis On the song in the video, but it grabbed me. I went and sought after the song, and when I found it, I also gave the other songs in the layton live playlist a listen, and... just wow. I had never heard so much life, so much passion, put into a collection of remade songs period! It felt like I was there listening to those songs for some universal reason. I knew I had to play a game, so I went to their website, and, well, (In my opinion), It was heartbreaking to see the state of the franchise, like a neglected box of strawberries in the back of the fridge. So I thought to play an old game. no better place To start than the start right? Well when the game arrived, turns out the SECOND game arrived instead (diabolical box). To tell the truth, I was a little afraid. Sure it was a kids game, but who knows? Anyway I booted it up on my old ds and i have to say, best mistake that ever happened to my life. I could tell even without playing the first game (and this is a bit of a stretch) but i could FEEL that this happened for a reason, that for sone reason, even though this was the first time playing the franchise, that diabolical box was tailor made for a person Like me. Once I finished the game, i listened back to diabolical box’s live performances on the playlist. Once i listened to the track “Folsense”, well, I shed tears. Everything hit me like a train, real things and fictional things. I looked back to the times before the virus and cried for those memories too. They weren’t perfect, no, but they were my childhood. 9 years in a school, with the same place, same teachers, same students, and it was just.... just gone. I had tried talking to those friends, but like every cliche summer story, they were changing. And dealing and understanding those changes with a keyboard? I felt like crying about that too. Now i’m a person who doesn’t cry, not like in a badass way, just in a...a “limbo” type way. Getting those tears out about the life I was moving away from, as well as moving towards, with a side of personal problems too, well it felt refreshing, like a new page was turned, a new chapter even. Ever since then, well i’ve had a new way at looking things, admiring their limited life spans. Moving slower, with the tide instead of faster and against it. I know my story has very little point, and i know i’m very late to the franchise, but from the bottom of my heart, Thank you Professor Layton for helping me figure out a mystery of my own that i didnt even know existed. He really is the best of the best.

This brings back so many good memories, I play this series still to this day and I will never forget the joy and peace it gave me. I cried when we lost Layton's love again, I cried when Emmy left and the when the "Phantom" sacrificed herself, I cried when Melina bid farewell. Damn, this series is perfect, beautiful storyline, stunning music, caring characters, sweet jokes and tough puzzles. May we never leave this fandom :)

I played the whole series 2-3 times on three different consoles. I am so hyped for the new game. The music, the characters and the whole game is a underrated masterpiece and had me often cry like a little child 🥹
Nice to hear some music from the Eternal Diva. One of the best written videogame movies to date, but yet so unknown to people. The movie is canon though (happens between last specter and miracle mask).

I cannot thank you enough for posting this. I had been listening to old compilations and to see this uploaded in 2020 made my heart so HAPPY. The feelings this music brings me are unexplainable. I've only played PL vs. Ace Attorney, but stumbling across this playlist has been a real treat. Lot of amazing songs that gave me chills or made me tear up without even having the context for the scenes, def need to give these games a try sometime!

Let me assure you that I mean it every last bit when I say this franchise is absolute MAGIC. There is nothing these games don't have, fabulous classical music, touching plots, interesting puzzles, and immersive worlds. EVERY SINGLE GAME IS A MASTERPIECE.
As an author I can't praise the stories enough. They are so intriguing and immersive that when something positively ridiculous and impossible happens, you don't question it in the slightest and accept it right away!
I'm just gonna take a while to gush about them for a bit. SPOILERS BELOW!!!
You were warned.
I have a deep love for small, quaint towns so the locations are awesome. From the small towns to literally going around the world, there wasn't a single place that wasn't memorable. Personal favorites are Folsense, Monte D'or, London, Fong Gi, Stansbury, Froenborg, Hoogland and the Wild West Town whose name escapes me at the moment. And the Molentary Express. THAT TRAIN, MAN.
There are no words for the music. Oh wait, yes there is. Magical. Memorable. Nostalgic. Heartwarming. Heart wrenching. Intriguing. Lulling. Every single game had music that fit perfectly, especially the main themes. CV had Layton's original theme, fair because first game and all, but very well fitting a curious village. (Heh) The puzzle music was always puzzling. (Bdm-tsh!) Diabolical Box's theme gives you the feeling of something happening in the past, something sad and unexplained, and then like you are travelling somewhere. The Unwound Future also gives you a feeling of something from the past, illusive questions still unanswered, like you must find the past to find the future. The Last Spectre gives the impression of someone hiding in the dark, pulling at strings in this small town, daring you to uncover their scheme. Miracle Mask again pulling at something from before, something you remember, something that has to do with what you are doing now, almost wistful. The Azran Legacy is the end, the final adventure, vast and new, finding out the final secrets and the true history of a lost civilization. And don't get me started on the credits themes. They all are breathtaking and punch you in the face. Looking at you, Iris and Time Travel.
The stories, man. The actual mysteries. Brilliant. Made even better by the amazing cast of characters. Hershel Layton is one of my favorite characters in entertainment, period. He's just such a gentleman (I know, who knew?) but the guy is so patient, kind, and gentle. He's been through more trauma than you can shake a stick at and he's STILL kind and optimistic. Layton is goals, man. Luke is lovable. I love him so much, that spunky little lad. Best extra character goes to Sammy Thunder!
Everystory has such an emotional ending, whether it's sad, fulfilling, or bittersweet. Curious Village was the only ending I didn't cry over. (Not that it's less emotional, but I felt that is was a perfect end to an interesting story.) And there's so many things you don't immediately connect to the ending until you are there, and when you play through them again you pick up on things you didn't even realize the first time!
In conclusion, PLAY THESE GAMES. I could go on and on but seriously, you won't regret it. Thanks for this video!

The Layton games are pure magic. And I think I speak for more people when I say this: they have been more than games for me. Literally transported me to a whole new world, made me discover the wildest plots, and blessed my ears with the most spectacular music. But really especially the music, and I can't stress this enough, is such a showpiece. The tracks are just breathtaking, and I feel bad for anyone who hasn't had the chance to stumble upon them. I started college recently, and I still can't get enough of the Layton tracks, they get my mind off things, help me through stuff and studying. The Layton saga is an absolute masterpiece, and that's an understatement.

I love you so much for doing this
My life, although on the whole good I'm sure, has been really tough and stressful as of late. I have just started my a levels and lost a friendship group on the way. I feel like I'm on the verge of some sad realisation about work ethic and life, about people and why I should put so much effort into school-if this system is even fulfilling enough for me- social pressures, stresses and fights at home have a taxing effect but to top it off, eventhough I do work hard, I'm not sure I'm working on the right things. Sometimes I feel quite lost.
But one thing that always always cheers me up and gives me some hope is this music from my childhood. I'm sure there's some deep meaning behind why but regardless, it's an absolute comfort and often tear jerker to me. I replay the games complete every few years and listen to the music frequently but for some reason, having it while I study feels so different. It's like a cure for my anxiety (I don't have anxiety but I mean just being anxious or worried). It's my imaginary hug as I sleep, my pat on the shoulder to say it'll all be fine, my familiar face in a sea of strangers. I am so happy to have something like this in my life-these games are an absolute treasure of mine and a solace in times of uncertainty and for that I thank them immensely

urgh the unwound future theme will foreve make me want to cry it was my fave game of all time and even now i could play it for days on end. so much nostalgia from being a kid and watching each and every cut scene in awe whilst desperately trying to complete puzzles that i had no idea how to do - they will forever be the best parts of my childhood

This video has gotten me through three finals weeks so far (and it's currently pulling me through the fourth). At this point, it has become a tradition for my friends and I to listen to Professor Layton music when we get together to study for exams. There's something about it that's just perfect for that sort of thing.
I'm looking forward to spending my last two years in university with this playlist. I already know that I'm going to cry when Iris comes on during my last semester because it feels like a goodbye, and I'm not ready to let go of college yet.
