Professor Layton always puts me in a weird mood. Like something sinister is going to happen but I welcome it.
That description of him reminds me of another fictional character. He isn't famous at all, but the author is extremely famous - Agatha Christie, the Queen of Crime. The character you reminded me about was the Mysterious Mr. Quin, and his presence is an omen of either good or bad. However, the main character Mr Satterthwaite enjoys his presence and even longs for him to appear again.
@@elmaor129 Mr. Quin ? I'm trying to read all Agatha Christie's books (I just started in fact). In which book does it appears please ?
@@enkibachelier5052 he has his own book, The Mysterious Mr. Quin. He also appears in some short stories, e.g. The Harlequin Tea Set (which can be found in Problem at Pollensa Bay). Hope you enjoy your journey of reading all the Queen of Crime’s books! (I’ve still got about 1/3 to go myself, but I’m trying my best.) (its also splendid to know that there are people like me who share the same interests in such rare gems, like Prof. Layton and Agatha Christie!)
@@elmaor129 Great, thanks for your complete answer ! It will be my next book I believe ! (I'm also happy to see that many people have great tastes. I'm not saying that others have bad tastes but they really are missing something with Layton).
Have a wonderful day :)
Exactly, I hate walking around the town in curious village it freaking scares me 😅😅🤣
I kinda wish the later games had a little bit of the eerie and bizarre vibe that surrounded Curious Village. There's something so fascinating yet disturbing about its whole atmosphere, like a fairytale gone wrong. Not even the reveal at the end could shake this strange feeling off. And the soundtrack has also this sound of a twisted tale most of the time, making the experience creepier than it already is with everything that goes on as you progress through the game. God, I just love the Curious Village so much.
I wholeheartedly agree! The second game retained some of that charm, the third a bit, but less. The fourth had it more explicitly in the story but not with no subtle a guise, and the fifth and sixth, not at all.
100%!!
This is the reason why Curious Village is a personal favourite for me!! The atmosphere, worldbuilding and vibe I feel when playing is so unreal and something I have never experienced out of Curious Village
This is too true. You described it perfectly why I love this specific game out of the franchise so much
so true it felt so disorientated and detatched from the real world
Yeah exactly!! I wish the other games had more of this vibe.
The ds had so many amazing games with awesome soundtracks.
Yeah it really did
Micah Buzan are u on YT today?
yes, you are right
i agree
Nintendo ost is amazing in general
No one: ...
Absolutely, positively, no one:
Layton NPCs: I know someone died, but this kinda reminds me of a puzzle.
Oh yea I forgot someone died in professor Layton game
lol ik they act so casual about it😂
Brandi Dail yeah i haven’t played professor layton games a lot but i know a lot about professor layton and the curious village if u want to ask me about it like who died or whatever. i can tell you if you don’t know or you can ask me something else about this game if you want.
SPOILER ALERT
i think why they are so unfeeling is because they are actually robots who arent meant to portray much feelings, so they don't really know how to realistically react to a death like humans. besides, their mission is to challenge those who seek the golden apple. so naturally they would want to give layton some puzzles
Where's the lie tho?
I played this game with my Mom, because I was only about 6 at the time. I don't remember as much of it as I'd like, and I wonder if my mother would be up to playing through it with me again, for nostalgia's sake. It's been so long since we did anything like this.
Gamer McDudarino Thats the exact same for me. When i was about 7 or 8 I used to help my mom solve the puzzles. One night I remember crying because it was my bedtime and I hadn't finished a puzzle. Its wonderful how a simple game for the DS can cause so much nostalgia.
fishy chipes Same here, I was with my nan, mum and dad trying to figure out the one where the wolf and sheep need to cross the river, my dad finally got it after like 20 minutes of pure concentration. Ahhh nostalgia.
Wow, you guys are.... young. And yes, it's a great family game ^^
Yeah, same. I was about 8 when I played this with my father and we were both largely incompetent, especially while trying to find seven squares. That puzzle was hell, we were probably stuck on it for about a week.
I played it with mine too :)
Nostalgia stronk
Man I miss my DS and all these visual novels the console had like Professor Layton, Ghost Trick, Phoenix Wright. I loved playing on my bed these adventures, felt so inmersed on them. Really hope the Switch gets some kind of visual novel treatment like these jewels.
Even after 10 years, I remember the name of all the citizens of the village...
But do you at 15 years?
I have never played this game, but UA-cam somehow recomended this soundtrack to me like 6 years ago, and ever since then I use it to read novels. Its magical.
You really should play the Professor Layton games! They're all amazing!
The veil of the night and the village awakens are my favorites so many memories loved the diabolical box and the curios village
So many good memories. I remember the first time I heard about this game in 2008. I was at the airport about to head to Fiji and I saw it advertised in a magazine. Glad I ended up buying it :)
I'm here as someone on Reddit said my music reminded them of this OST...
it has the same weirdness
And some Legends say that their brain grew three sizes that day.
About Town...Chills
5:13 Why are some of the best themes the shortest?
sometimes it works like that, short themes have something amazing
I wrote a set of variation on this theme, thus making it longer
Here's the link if you're interested in listening to it

agreed
Ikr they are great but short ❤️😭😭
@@ThePianoFortePlayerthanks so much ❤️
a lot of memories 😭
I cried listening to this, so many emotions.
I am nostalgic of this period when my only worry was to solve an enigma to be able to continue the game
The veil of the night, my favorite ❤
I can't decide whether my favorite is The Plot Thickens or Memories of St. Mystere, but the whole soundtrack is amazing :)
Here after 10 years. Still best soundtrack
I can still hear the sound of the dialogues over this
Layton's theme is...unbeatable
Just finished the game and I must say, that ending made me sad. But this was one really good game. I loved the site characters and the cute story and everything was entertaining from the get go
Still so good to ear it sometime !
This ost actually slaps
This OST didn't need to use as much accordion as it does, but holy shit am I glad it does!
i love listening to this while doing school
Still wishing for these Professor Layton games to come to Steam or something. Just as they were on DS, nothing new.
Das erinnert mich an ein Puzzle :P
esta banda sonora me pone bastante melancolico, me la puse para estudiar y terminé llorando :,)
In my Childhood I often used the Track 13. The Veil of Night (30:31) to fall asleep after playing this game for hours unter the bedcover.
anyone for some tea ?
god I miss these games so much
Upset that they no longer make Layton games
37:47 The one that reveal everything, my best one
I didn't even need to watch the name of the composer to know it was the same as for Dark Cloud 2.
I KNEW it!
never played dark cloud 2, but I could tell it was the same composer from playing the original dark cloud.
Oh my god, you just brought me back so many good memories by naming Dark Cloud. I used to play it on the PlayStation 2 and I loved it SO MUCH. One day the disc got corrupted tho, and i haven't had the opportunity to play it since... I miss it so much.
Do Paolo theme is the best thing ever
2021?
This brings back a lot of happy memories playing this game. It's a shame I can't actually find the soundtrack for sale anywhere. Can anyone help?
This is 2016...you don't BUY soundtracks. You download them illegally off the internet.
Jessy Hughes then is there somewhere where this can be illegally downloaded from?
what kind of music is the main theme? where can I find music like that song? I know it's french but not specifically

Why is professor Layton so freaking scary!!!
The games or Professor Layton himself?
@@joshuatanase3718 the games 😂
I remember being addicted to this game. Really? Of all games, I'd be addicted to professor layton * FACEPALM *

Also this ost is really amazing lol
Love the soundtrack, but the game itself is a little too bland. Every other Professor Layton game is wonderful, though.
I suppose that is because they had just started the series and didn't really know where to go with it. I still love the game, though.
Oliver Watts Yeah, I can see a lot of DS games like that. I mean Spirit Tracks isn't really one of the best Zelda games, but I still love it.
Every game starts somewhere lol
Still here in 2020 remembering the good old time. I would hide my DS under my pillow and play to Prof Layton when everyone was sleeping...
Kinali BTS Samee
i did that before but now i can’t find my ds so i watch gameplays even though i preferred actually playing it.
Exactly the same, playing it under my pillow while retaining my tears because of the sad end

Literally what I'm doing rn 😁
Same, nothing better than working physics 2 with this on 😂
Me toooo
Bro I can relate 100% omfg
Was it really that long ago? Lords, time flies. This is still the best Nintendo DS/ 2DS game series ever. In my oppinion. Legend of Zelda BOTW is best switch game, and mariokart is best racing game, becaus I’m terrible at games and social skills.
Curious Village was my first Professor Layton game. I fell in love with the series after that. I wish they released Professor Layton on other platforms like the computer.
you could use an emulator
yeah check out desmume, I'm currently replaying unwound future on my pc
Well, there is a port for mobile with upscaled graphics ;)
Switch version incomming
This game literally changed my life. When I was five I bought this amazing game and I was so happy.
When I heard the violin in Professor Layton's theme it struck me a lot and so I started studying violin. I am now fourteen and in high school for music. When I grow up I hope to become a great violinist.
With a name like that I'm sure you will haha
Late Off topic but I feel dumb knowing a five year old beat this game. I was like... 11? 12 maybe when I played the series😂
There is not a single bad soundtrack in professor Layton....I played ALL the games and I think every single one of them is outstanding. It's a pity that it came to an end, not complaining though. Simply beautiful
They are doing more Layton games, just not currently following the Professor himself.
@@devinhelmgren1806 AND THAT'S ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. WE WANT THE PROFESSOR BACK.
@@mattph8416 hard shrug. If the mechanics aren't interesting to you in the new games that might be one thing, but if the creative team wants to explore new ground? They aren't beholden to us.
@@devinhelmgren1806 yeah that's true... Anyway I prefer the original Professor Layton.

I agree that one is my favourite too 😁
I had this game when i was 5 and i loved it, but now, this soundtrack is creepy
De Ville same😂
yes it is good. well they are all so good i can’t pick a favorite 😁
imRix i disagree. could you please expand on why you think this is creepy?
Did anyone else find this game a bit creepy as a kid?
one reason i love it
Yes, indeed. Isn't that lovely?
It's one of the reasons why I love playing them xD
Why, because every game of the original trilogy ends with finding out the town is fake and everyone you met is a hallucinating robot hostage who hasn't seen the sun in months?
@@evilfriedchicken5965 i both completely agree with this and think this is completely wrong at the same time. you have a talent, dude
If only they kept creating games with Layton as the main character...
We have Katrielle Layton now sigh
The L profile picture
I wish there is more games to come tho bc I really can’t express how much the Layton Saga Family loves these games ❤️❤️
@@vanillabyul oh yes finally an emo gamer like me on ytb im so happy and the layton games are my life too !!
Like, Katrielle is cool and all, but you are truly a gentleman. No one can beat this OG Professor. Who can REALLY pull off a top hat!
I remember receiving this game as an 11th birthday gift. I had never heard of it before and thought it would be dumb, but I played it anyway. I ended up falling in love with this series and I still replay it 5 years later. Truly the best video game soundtrack out there.
We had the exact same experience. My aunt thought that me and my sister might enjoy a puzzle game. We weren't that interested until we played it. Now we've finished the series and we've bawled our eyes out at the end of every game.
The best videogame soundtrack is from the Ace Attorney series
I got it hand-me-down from my cousin and have fallen in love with the franchise since atm I’m playing Pandora’s box
I am crying just by thinking about how beautiful this game was - this soundtrack is so soothing and mysterious
Curious Village: Best Villain
Diabolical Box: Best Prettyboy
Unwound Future: Best Sad
Prequels: Best plot
+BILL_NYE_THE_PIZZA_PIE™ I agree, except I think the Azran Legacy was much sadder that Unwound Future. (It may or may not have made me cry lmao...)
I only have Curious Village and Miracle Mask, IDK about the others

its incredible to see the effort that's been put in something most of us would probably won't evn notice, such as video game music
How could anyone not notice? Your comment is plainly misunderstanding the artform.
That's pretty exciting don't you think ?? 😁
My mom and I bonded over these games. I still remember both of us crying over the ending to Unwound Future. Such a great series.
my best 2$ invested in games
Professor Layton is such an underrated series with such underrated soundtracks
agree, not many people know about this gem of a series
At least we know it :)
Glad i’m not the only one that thinks that. of the two whole games that i played 😂 i love them though
It did sell pretty well
9:34 This bit of the music is all i hear whenever i see Professor Layton, i never use guides or hints for any games i play so i spent a good amount of time on some of those puzzles back in 2008 when i used to play it, its so rewarding when you figure it out. I might have to play it again soon to see if age has been kind to me, i was only 19 back then.
i would just sit for an hour thinking of how to solve it and when it worked it was so rewarding.
Sometimes a hint is needed to for you to think differently if you are stuck. But hey, if you actually completed the game without using any hints, that's incredible!
I always loved the music in Professor Layton games
+Yukiverse (LucarioIke) I always loved the work from Tomohito Nishiura. Dark Cloud series, Rogue Galaxy and Professor Layton series.
I loved all it
I still think this is my favourite Professor Layton game, the smaller story and quirkiness of the art style and soundtrack are just so charming, and personal to me
This and Ace Attourney have the best soundtrack for DS. Very iconic and distinct music style soo fitting for the game. I wish they released Layton on Nintendo Switch.
they did, just not the Professor himself... it's about his daughter but i'm not too sure about the details. personally like the professor more tho
They're releasing it on Switch soon!

i never had a chance to play it when i was little as my family was poor and we could not affort the console nor the game. but now, as i'm 17, i got a used 3DS and i'm slowly catching up on the series i've missed as a child!
1:01:36 the looming tower is one of my favourites on this soundtrack!! the perfect mix between ominous, mischievous and elegant.....
I re-played this game during last summer on my old nds :') oh the memories!
As a kid, I hated this game because I thought "Oh this game is for old people who would play these boring puzzles games" I wanted some action back in the day tbh with you and I wasn't a fan of Puzzles (Well except the Legend of Zelda, but anything else I didn't like.) I mean I had this game on the DS when I got this DSI bundle with it. Now I want to play Professor Layton the 1st one all the way to the last one.
*sigh* Children these days, you know? everyone's into the action and stuff. people need to pay attention to the series like Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright. I mean, action isn't all that good. really, this games plot twists are amazing! same with phoenix wright. i really wish so many people weren't into so much of the action category. also, professor Layton and Phoenix Wright have great anime cutscenes, (also, im EXCLUDING pl and AA for this one reason) people really need to get out of anime. Really, most animes are just the same anime, but with different characters. hopefully, more people get to know Pl and AA.
Dat-Dude-Is-An-Arcade-Syk0 i played when i was young xd
I also had it but the puzzles were too boring or difficult for a 9 year old kid so I never played it and some how while changing home I lost some games and now I want to play it so badly but cant.

Out of curiosity, if you list the publisher and the creator and all that, can you have youtube videos of any video game music track?
What about for something obscure like ogre battle 64

Alright I figured Id ask I wanted to do something on the subject, didnt want it to get taken down tho :/
The first Layton game is kinda creepy, anyone else thinks the same?
This is the first time I've ever seen the American boxart, and... wow.
Also, this game's music is a lot better than I remember it.
The puzzle music still gives me the creepiest but most nostalgic vibe of any DS game. Such a great soundtrack.

Professor Layton’s Theme (Live Version)
this is so cool!
damn I absolutely love this game
If you're here and wondering where all of the other Professor Layton OST videos went (especially the ones uploaded by the now-defunct SinnerFalcon), it's because they're putting the OSTs on Spotify.
RIP to those ~10 year old videos with thousands of old comments from fans.
Thank you so much for clarifying, I was wondering where they went
They're putting the OSTs on Spotify ? While that's great new for me, I feel sad thinking about all those comments that were deleted.
The main theme is just so good
Why does this have 28 dislikes when it should have 0 dislikes... I think there is something wrong with my phone XD no but seriously why did people dislike this? I’m actually confused.
Happy 15th Anniversary Professor Layton! Such a fantastic series that has made me cry at its stories, laugh at funny moments, want to throw my DS in rage from hard puzzles, relax listening to its music, and look in awe at its beauty. I'm proud to have played this in my childhood.
Man I love this soundtrack so much. Professor Layton is one of my favorite games.
The last time I played a Prof. Layton game was when Layton vs. Wright hit the Scene XD Yeah I guess I should replay some of the older Layton games^^ Great Video though.
I had Diabolical Box and Curious Village, and I always used to 'play' aka watch my dad play them. These games are seriously underrated, and it makes me want to cry. They were, and still are a big part of my childhood. While the Puzzles seemed unsolvable a few years ago, they are now perfect. Solvable, but mostly challenge. While I love newer games, like BoTW and so on, I really wish this series as it was in the two games I had would continue... ;-; zelda is the only other franchise that interests me enough to buy nowadays, because it combines puzzle with graphics I remember fondly. This Game, and series, will always be in my most treasured memories.

I was actually so god damn happy and mesmorized that the Movie the Eternal Diva is actually really good
And I love to listen to the music/play the game from time to time
always wondered what genre this music is
alternative swing ragtime?
something like that
I don't know exactly but the composer said that he gave it a "French" influence. So I'd recommend looking up some French orchestral music I guess.
Every Layton soundtrack is great - but this first one is somehow the best one still!
Did you notice the similarity between 3:06 and 6:44 ? I am not a musician but I would like to know if this is just an example of many other patters that can be observed in this soundtrack.
yeah it’s a recurring theme on purpose!! it’s like that to tie the various themes together into a cohesive ‘st. mystere’ sound
leitmotif??? i dont know whether that's the word for it... but it certainly is something along that line.
9:02 is the only thing I hear when see professor layton. I had to put the game down because this song was making me go crazy lol.
