I just unboxed my S61, and it won't charge. I haven't set it up either, was waiting till I get a calling plan from T- mobile. Shouldn't it charge up regardless?
Thank you for such detailed description! You're the only one that actually took the time to properly describe and show the darn phone. Made my decision much easier. Thanks again!
What's the furthest distance the thermal camera could detect a person? Would be great if you could do a test footage as well using the thermal camera with all different palletes
When I do my review I will be sure to demo all the color schemes. As for distance to detect a person, that largely depends on contrast with background temperature, but I'd say in idea conditions, you could get up to 200 plus feet.
Thanks again. I ended up ordering the US version from CAT. They said, the EU version might work but the data will be limited. I'm not sure what that means, exactly but... it's on the way.
Yes, what they told you is correct. The UK uses different 4G bands than the US. Some of them cross over, but most don't. You'd get some functionality if you were lucky.
I don't do reviews, so i hope it's ok to add my 2 cents. This phone weighs as much as my Note 8, in its Unicorn Beetle case (without holster). No adjustment to make there. Call quality is great and the At&t consultant commented on how fast the phone is. I'll wait for your pro review to see if we feel the same about other things. Thanks!
Cant wait for your next video on the cat s61. I would like to see a test to back up cats claim that the phone will keep working in the summer heat with out dieing. Temp close to 100 recording video for an hr, can speed up video, So everyone dont click off. Are you on the att network? Are you going to do some underwater testing?
I'm not sure I can do the video heat test just because of time and weather changes, but as far as I've seen it has kept up great in 95+ degree heat running resource intensive apps like the thermal camera. Yes I am on the AT&T network. And I do plan on doing some water testing.
When you review it could you please test the loudspeaker compared to a normal phone, test the camera photos in low light comparing to an s7 edge, S8 etc? Test video recording walking to check the image stabilizer ? Thankyou.
Sure thing, in my review I'll be sure to demo the loudspeaker, visible light camera and video recording. But I dont have any Samsung phones, but I will do the test against my iPhone 7 Plus with optical image stabilization. The S61, as far as I know does not have stabilization of any kind.
+1 on the loudspeaker test. The S60 has decent bass (as decent as phone can have) thanks to its heavy build. Stereo speakers are lacking though and volume isn't quite loud enough to hear over the shower's running water. Best phones for audio are Huawei RS, HTC and Razer...
That would be good. I've got the S60 and the loudspeaker is terrible. I would also love to see if the visible light camera has been improved. I took some pictures outside recently and after viewing them on my pc the colors were a bit more washed out than I would have liked. Hopefully they improved it on this one.
And I have been looking everywhere to buy the cat s61 phone that ships to Australia and I cannot find one place that does and there is no shops in Australia that sells the phone either
Hi ctuan, thanx for reviewing the primary camera! Finally somebody did it. Where did you get that phone? You bought it in a regular store? I pre-ordered it in June and mine is still not even shipped. Thanks CATERPILLAR.... Greets Dennis
Hey man of course! I know it was brief as it was just an unboxing video, but in my full review I'll insert pictures comparing the 7 Plus primary camera to the S61 primary camera. I would say it's not flagship status quality, but more than worksble for daily use. Although optical image stabilization would have been nice. Yeah officially, the phone isn't released yet, but I found this incredible site called Overseas Electronics that somehow has it in stock! The link is in the description!
ctuan13 Oh, you already wrote it into the description 🤔 I got to admit- I haven't read it 🤐 shame on me... But like I said, I'm really thankful for the review and I'm desperately looking forward for the review after you used it a few days/weeks. Maybe CAT delivered mine in the meantime.... Greets
craigdg123 Yeah actually thanks for mentioning that, now that I think of it I remember clove shipping worldwide and now that it's released, you don't need to worry about Overseas Electronics being the only place to get it. Give clove.uk a try!
I'm not exactly sure what you're asking, but the box did come sealed, but it is a claimshell box. The unboxing occurred live on camera so what you see is what you get.
craig williams As stated in the beginning of my video, the link can be found in the description. Although it is available from Caterpillar now as it is after the official release date, you can also buy it from Overseas Electronics like I did. welectronics.com/gsm/misc/Cat-S61.HTML
Dash Christinat The range for the Laser distance tool is about 26 feet and the range for the thermal camera depends largely on available light for MSX overlay to work and thermal gradient between the subject and background temperatures.
Hey thanks for commenting! You know, I actually don't really use NFC all that much so I haven't personally even tried it. But I'll get some NFC tags and try it! Stay tuned and I'll try and include it in a future video!
Is the Lincoln yours? Dayum. The thermal camera definitely has much better detail than my S60. The laser measurement tool would just be used as a laser pointer by me, for fun :-p Definitely test the battery to exhaustion. Go nuts watching videos etc. The S60 drains its battery in a hurry when I'm on UA-cam, and the power saver is off by default after every charge- annoying after my always on HTC's power saver. The S60 also doubles as a heater ;-)
Yes it is mine ☺️ Yeah the thermal resolution is much better than the S60 for sure. So far I've been super impressed with the battery life. I'm usually always connected to a Bluetooth speaker and even with bluetooth on I get over 12 hours of screen on time. Without Bluetooth on, its approaching 20 hours of SOT.
craig williams I see, I am unsure of the release date in Australia but your best bet may be asking a trusted individual from the US or UK to buy it and have it shipped to them, and then they ship it to you. I hope that helps.
xbull3yx "a drama"? But no I've had no issues with overheating and the only times the phone really even gets warm is when you are charging or when you are using the thermal camera. But even then, the phone is just warm.
ctuan13 that's good also I found my s60 the microphone mesh and foam tore off and yeah wasn't a good experience I have doogee s60 now but it's slowed significantly and take a pounding might try another cat phone
xbull3yx Ahh well just know all those build quality issues have been addressed. If you want to see my full review, check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/vhwFtpajxyo/v-deo.html
Paul Esthète Are you asking about the thermal camera? Yes it can view things in the dark, although without the visible light camera to provide the MSX overlay, it can be more difficult to discern distant targets, especially if the temperature gradient between background and subject isn't that large. But yes with any level of differing temperatures, visibility in the dark is more than possible.
Paul Esthète Well that I'd just a different color pallette to help differentiate things. It is in the strictest sense an infrared camera as in it views the energy emitted by objects in the infrared spectrum, but it does not produce it's own infrared light to illuminate like some night vision equipment. It is a thermal camera designed for viewing temperature gradients and heat, not for low light visibility.
Paul Esthète Aww thanks, I try to respond as soon as I can! I imagine the reason you see the lack of quick responses with larger UA-camrs is it becomes difficult with the sheer volume of comments coming in to answer all of them.
craig williams Oh, well you've gotta navigate over to the Cat Phones site, here's the link for the S61: www.catphones.com/en_us/cat-s61-smartphone.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIls7LkPGT3AIVGMJkCh1EXgtdEAAYASAAEgIQ5_D_BwE
This phone has some capabilities that is supposed to work as a professional tool like distance finder and thermal camera.Holding it in hands and talking about it inside your room of your parents house without the results of a real test this is not convincing. Why everyone does not own this ultra durable smartphone and finding it in everyshop, but only buy it from online ordering?
Not sure why you feel the need to be so condescending toward me. I do my best to try to give objective, complete and useful reviews. But yes, my job doesn’t entail the same stresses of a contractor, plumber or builder. Still I did what I could to put the phone through its paces. By it’s nature, the review is a summary of my experiences with the device, not actual testing. If you’d like to see actual testing of both the thermal camera and laser measurement tool, check out the countless other videos in my S61 series on my channel. As to why this phone isn’t in every corner shop and is “only buy it from online ordering”, it is very clearly due to the niche nature of this product. It was an expensive device at launch with a list price of $1000 and it makes countless compromises for it’s rugged nature and durability, which I highlighted in many of my videos. These are sacrifices and compromises the average person just isn’t willing to make for durability they will never need. Hope this helps.
DONT BUY THAT ITS A JOKE ! I have one in front of me not working in less than a month! I am about to travel now and they dont want to refund me even when the product doesent respond to its qualities. you will be very disapointed to pay these money for this thing!
I've had mine for over a month and a half and I'm quite happy with it. I'm sorry you've had such a bad experience, but it would appear to be an isolated incident. Have you contacted CAT? Cat phones has a very robust warranty if you have any issues. What exactly is wrong with your phone?
Sorry but this was a waste of time. I wanted to see how measurement would've worked say for ie. measuring door width and height with few examples. Also for the thermals I would've like to see ie. car rotors after braking, example image from live electrical box and ie. car exhaust manifold or even better good picture from running motor. Oh well, looks like no professional users have yet made anykind of review of this thing in _real_ life scenarios. Oh, yes and I did look through the actual "review" video.
Well my apologies for not having all the tests you'd like in either my unboxing video or my review video. But I do have more videos coming that will demonstrate the measurement tool and more of the thermal camera. For now, hopefully my nighttime thermal test is of some help to you! ua-cam.com/video/wbpE6dZf_T0/v-deo.html
The wait is over! My fulll review is here!

I just unboxed my S61, and it won't charge. I haven't set it up either, was waiting till I get a calling plan from T- mobile. Shouldn't it charge up regardless?

Mev Konjuhovac You got it! Feel free to check out my full review here: ua-cam.com/video/vhwFtpajxyo/v-deo.html
This is the best smartphone presentation ever.Everything is shown.Great video.Help mi to decide to buy this phone ..Great job.Thanks.

Ordered mine from Home Depot site, it's available now.
Do you using it now ?
Thanks again. I ended up ordering the US version from CAT. They said, the EU version might work but the data will be limited. I'm not sure what that means, exactly but... it's on the way.
Gerry926 That's great to hear! I'm sure you're gonna love it! It's a great phone! My review is coming soon!

How do you still like the phone after all this time. I was thinking about buying it, or should I look for something else now
Nice one. Just one thing I miss. Can you please show how you did the calibration of the lesser¿.
Cant wait for your next video on the cat s61. I would like to see a test to back up cats claim that the phone will keep working in the summer heat with out dieing. Being on the AT&T network have you noticed any problems?
Zeke Rivanian I haven't noticed any issues with connectivity on AT&T. Same LTE and call reception as on my iPhone, if not better.
Thanks!
When you review it could you please test the loudspeaker compared to a normal phone, test the camera photos in low light comparing to an s7 edge, S8 etc? Test video recording walking to check the image stabilizer ? Thankyou.

Felice Graziano Definitely, I'll be sure to demo the loudspeaker and also compare it to the sound of my iPhone 7 Plus!

Try this crowd in the UK. www.clove.co.uk/international-customers.aspx
Curious... how did you move any contacts from an old phone to this new phone?
Hi ctuan,
thanx for reviewing the primary camera! Finally somebody did it. Where did you get that phone? You bought it in a regular store? I pre-ordered it in June and mine is still not even shipped. Thanks CATERPILLAR....

Hello2106 Of course! Stay tuned for my review in a week or so. In the meantime, hopefully yours arrives soon!
I will buy it when the price drops to under $400
Thorough down to earth 🌍 review. 👍
Wow! Excellent Review! Thank you!
Glenn W You got it! Glad to help! Thanks for watching!
Hi I had a look to see if I could get the cat s61 phone but there was a message saying they don’t ship over seas because I live in Australia
craig williams Aww damn, that's unfortunate. Have you tried checking on Caterpillar's website?
Try clove.co.uk they ship worldwide
craigdg123 Yeah actually thanks for mentioning that, now that I think of it I remember clove shipping worldwide and now that it's released, you don't need to worry about Overseas Electronics being the only place to get it. Give clove.uk a try!
Do you have problems hearing at a whatsapp audio in private (using the sensor)?
Hi,
Does the paper box come sealed (evolved) with plastic or some kind of seal stickers (lock tag)?
I'm not exactly sure what you're asking, but the box did come sealed, but it is a claimshell box. The unboxing occurred live on camera so what you see is what you get.
very good .... everything is very nice .... but in no way they explain how much is the " IR resolution "
victor morel I'm sorry, I'm a bit confused as to what you mean.
Hi I would really like to know where did you buy the cat s61 phone from
craig williams As stated in the beginning of my video, the link can be found in the description. Although it is available from Caterpillar now as it is after the official release date, you can also buy it from Overseas Electronics like I did.
welectronics.com/gsm/misc/Cat-S61.HTML
sir.is this available in philippines area?bcoz id like to buy that s61
Hi. What network are you using? Verizon? At&t? Thanks.
Gerry926 I'm using AT&T. As far as I know, the S61 can only work on GSM networks. Thanks for watching!
ctuan13
Thanks! I was switching to them anyway 😁
Dis be fun on big game or pest control. While having a social media etc.
What's the range/distance for the flir. ? Or laser distance
Dash Christinat The range for the Laser distance tool is about 26 feet and the range for the thermal camera depends largely on available light for MSX overlay to work and thermal gradient between the subject and background temperatures.
Hi. Wheres the sweet point for nfc on s61?
Hey thanks for commenting! You know, I actually don't really use NFC all that much so I haven't personally even tried it. But I'll get some NFC tags and try it! Stay tuned and I'll try and include it in a future video!
Otg to HDMI cable works with s61???
Well OTG typically refers to a USB C to USB A adapter, but yes the S61 also supports HDMI video out.
Thanks for the quick response
Is the Lincoln yours? Dayum.

LOCKnLOAD You got it, man! Glad to help! And if you have any questions, just ask. Stay tuned for my review!
I tried the Caterpillar's site and they don’t sell phones
IDK where you are, but if you wanted to meet up that'd be nifty. Hopefully everything goes well for you.
I have tried them and they don’t ship to Australia they only ship to retailers thanks anyway
craig williams I see, I am unsure of the release date in Australia but your best bet may be asking a trusted individual from the US or UK to buy it and have it shipped to them, and then they ship it to you. I hope that helps.
