  • Another simple easy upgrade. The clock and dome light install only took me about an hour from start to finish.

    And so it begins....Inherited my stepmom's '93 truck with 118,000 miles on it two days ago, and one of the first things I noticed was lack of clock - even on the radio! Second thing was the slipping clutch - I can replace that, but first the easy stuff - find and install a clock! So time to cruise the junkyard tomorrow after getting the tires re-balanced - thanks for the info about the install!

    Outstanding video. Thank you you saved me a lot of grief and the possibility of damaging any dash components when installing a new stereo and a digital clock into my 91 Toyota 4X4b truck.

    After checking what seemed like a couple of dozen 4Runner's in wrecking yards, finally found one with a clock in a recent arrival! Warning - if you get one from a Toyota Surf (4Runner in North America!), the mounting tabs will be reversed because of the RHD!! I managed to cut them off and reattach with hot glue, so it will work for me - but extra work to install.

    Cool video Jon! I'm getting ready to upgrade my father in laws stock stereo in his 92 Toyota pick up. Disassembly of the dash looks easy enough. I just might hook him up with a clock too. Thanks for sharing man :)

    Thank you -- so I have a 1994 pickup which looks like yours -- so do you think there is also an electrical hookup, a blue "faux plug" behind my dash too? I kind of want to know before I try to pull it apart!

    Great videos!! With your video help I visited a local junkyard to swap out the rear view mirror and dome light from a 4Runner - sweet upgrade. Improved the sound and cut down the rattling dramatically by installing 4Runner speaker boxes. Replaced my original '93 pickup crazed 3 instrument cluster with a clear 4Runner cluster that displays oil pressure (thanks to your video) and a tachometer (adjusted potentiometer and added a wire as you instructed). Of all things the clock has been the biggest pain. Three junkyard clocks later - none worked - I removed the springs and soldered the leads as per the Toyo forum. The clock's four plug has power on the bottom left plug and yet I cannot get any of the three clocks to work. Would you recommend buying a working (tested) clock from an online site or after three clock failures do you think it could be the truck wiring. I'm sure it's not a fuse because the dome lights work and the bottom left plug shows over 12volts. Lastly, the new fuel gauge appears to read a tad high - is there an adjustment for that?
    Thanks again for your video instruction - you have helped me upgrade my POS from a rattling bucket to a semi tricked out quiet truck I enjoy driving. Thank you.

      S K So awesome to hear, I feel the same way. The small mods made it more enjoyable/functional and worth driving everyday! I can't believe 3 clocks all don't function. It just doesn't seem possible. I've gotten over 20 clocks for the 88-91 Civic/crx over the last 10 years and all of them have always worked. Is there just 2 wires going into the clock, I cannot remember? Try running a cable from them to the battery directly. Maybe it'll power the clock on just to test if it's working. You might have a wire disconnected/shorted out that lead to the clock.

    • @GarageBuiltHondas
      @GarageBuiltHondas  6 років тому

      S K As for the fuel gauge, I do not know of any adjustment. You may be able to pry the needle straight up off the cluster, then reinsert it into the right position. It works like that on the 88-91 Civic clusters.

    • @GarageBuiltHondas

      There's probably an auxiliary fuse which powers the clock and radio. Most cars have this and it's already incorporated into the wiring.
