To those who are worried about sony’s lenses, sigma just announced 9 art series lenses for sony’s line up.
I am 6 d mark1 user and i was planning to upgrade to a7r3 but now I can get a7iii plus a good sigma lens for a7r3’s price.

00:13 GH5 Autofocus = Depth from Defocus (DFD). Apparently you get 'Depth' (focusing on the background) by 'Defocusing' on the foreground.
Love that those Sony events have lots of things for you to shoot, must be fun putting those events together! Great video as usual Kai! Really excited to see the Siii later in the year and decide which of the three suits me best!

Really glad we switched to Sony last year, they're producing some impressive stuff. Too bad they couldn't give us a proper flippy screen, would've made a nearly perfect camera. The A7III has video capabilities similar to that of the A7SII, and if they are calling this "basic", what's in store for the A7SIII? Also, how does the AF compare to Canon's dual pixel system?

A. Rawlin Hewitt, well, it should be that way. At least from what I've seen so far, this camera is a no-brainer. Why would you event want to consider 6D (given you haven't got a significant lens collection)? This has all the features that enthusiasts/semi-pro's need for their photo and video work. And photo+video thing has really taken off. In fact, it's getting more and more embarrassing to continue to use Canon system for photo + something else for video. The first Sony's had their problems and limitations, however, with this release, I see that many of those shortcomings are properly addressed.
Canon is dead.
I'm impressed Sony still upgrades the "basic" model! I would have never recommended the a7II over different models but the a7III really stands its ground

Finally Sony are releasing full frame cameras with great battery life. That is all I ever wanted from them. The Sony A7R3 and the SonyA73 are both on my to by list.

If you're speaking about vlogging, yes. If you're speaking about photography, no way. The 6D is a solid DSLR who takes fantastic pics.
Canon 6D is a great camera, no doubts. But it's the same price. 6Dmk2 was launched @ 2100eur. With this one, you are also getting a bundle of PRO video features for the same price! And it is clear that it outperforms Canon in ISO, dynamic range. No doubt 6D is good enough for many cases. It's just that you can now get soooo much more with Sony. No need to carry two cameras if you do photo+video. There's no longer need for a debate either as it's so obvious. Canon is like Nokia in 2007. We know how it all ended.

Chris. Filmmaker gh5 still gas 10 bit and is still meant for manual video users. Idk if this has 10 bit or 4k 60. People will still buy gh5 for those reasons. For vlogging this is bet tee for sure, but autofocus and low light isn't everything.

Agree that Kai needs Lok very badly.
I like that Sony organise these events carefully, so much so that the "low light tests" for the A9 (hockey match) and A7 III (wedding dance scene) were all lit by large softboxes with continuous lights in them. It's funny how the Af gave you 2 sharp shots and one blurry shot out of three, in the bride and groom dance scene, even though they were iluminated by that large light. Not an action camera, that's for sure. Other than that, specs are great.

Kai is for fun and Sony only uses him for propaganda. Always brief and on the surface. Jason Lanier is in-depth and with real working hands-on, though some may not like his style. Go check out all his A7iii videos for real info and demonstration cos he has had it for 2 WEEKS before the announcement.
I feel like for years we have watched evil twin of Kai before. Whoever this guy is he directly dived into the camera review without any unnecessary blabber, extremely bad jokes and condensending attitude towards Sony.

So I get 3 things out of this announcement. First: Sony wants more people to get into FF, only by then realising, that the necessary FE lenses are freeking expensive. Second: If this is the basic model, in terms of AF and Low Light, what can we expect from the upcoming A7s? Third: I can imagine that there are many A7r III owners out there, biting their asses off like many customers did when the A6300 - A6500 issue took place.

If you bought an A7Riii you want the extra megapixels. I have the A7Rii because I am a landscape photographer and want the extra megapixels.
First point is right. Everyone compares Nikon, Canon and Sony, but only the bodys.
I would like a comparison with standard lenses (kit) and then pro Lenses. Categorized for portrait and landscape for example.
What matters is that you can find the lens you need. It doesn't matter that Nikon or Canon have 10 times as many lenses. In the next few years both Canon and Nikon will have to migrate to mirrorless systems and they will be years behind in developing lenses for that system.
Soon the Sony a7S III will appear. The main difference of the the third generation of a7 series cameras is the bigger battery and the dual SD slots.
For me both are not so important and make the camera significantly heavier and bigger. The second generation was bigger and heavier too than the first generation but the sensor stabilization is very important.
Dual slots events are vital. I never had a problem with an SD card and I had shoot many hundred thousands photos. I use many reputable with lower capacity SD cards instead of a large capacity and less known SD card.
On average Sony every six months introduce an new full frame mirrorless camera. That is very impressive and helps the depreciation of previous models.
Been using the a7ii as my main cam for a year and I love it. Only reason to change it would be either better AF (DPAF), 10 Bit Video or way better colour science. This one has got none
Also better battery, it's a critical thing
As far as I know, it does have better colour science. It's the same as in the a9 and a7r3, which is way better than what you were used to with Sony
Been using the ii for years now and i can see myself upgrading. the focusing system is apparantly as good as the A9 according to Jason Lanier. So the upgrade the focus system, the better ISO performance (def noticed a difference at 12800) and the dual card slot has sold it for me. plus my ii is a lil worn and torn anyway haha.
just saw that on other reviews too. waiting for the a7sIII and most likely go for this if the a7sIII has still 8 Bit (I would love slog3, but that doesnt make sence on 8bit)

What's dull about the original A7? I think it's more than perfectly fine for photography. Very happy with it.

Yep, you are right. I want a Sony A7 with 4K for blogging, but so far no flip screen.
Since Canon released M50, Sony will have to release a a6700 with flip screen not too far into the future.

I like to tilt my screen without having to pop it out to the side first (you usually have to do this with flippy outty twisty, right?).
It’s not really meant to be a vlogging camera... I’m fine with it just tilting up and down. Used that feature on my D750 all the time.

I still take a D850 over this. Would you not? Look at the lens prices, build quality, the lack of constant firmware fixes and weather sealing. ;-)
Besides: When Sony releases a new product and uses a location with freezing cold temperatures … you should be skeptical, it was the same deal with past releases, the colder the location the more overheating issues that thing will have. And apparently it was freezing cold this time. ;-)
And for Canon? Well, apparently they don't give a shit about entry level FF, because that 6DII is indeed a joke.
Traumglanz if I wanted more MP I would get the A7r3. Sorry, but I could never go back to dinosaur dslr after using the EVF on a mirrorless camera. Not to mention 10 fps with silent shutter, IBIS. All the features that the d850 will NEVER have. especially for that $2,000 price point. Besides everyone (including Nikon) know that d850 is pretty much the last Harrah for their DSLR line. That's why they officially announced their plans to switching to mirrorless, along with a new lens mount. So your argument about the Lenses and overheating are invalid and weak, especially when there are no reports of the A9 and A7r3 overheating.

No way. If you have a small video production and you are on a budget it's a great option and a very good camera (but still 4K UHD 8bit). But if you are a photographer I don't think so.
