I've just started using this pen today, and this was super helpful, especially as most people I've seen using this pen have been doing manga or cartoon-style, which isn't my thing. Thank you! :)
I love drawing with this pen in my sketch book just to loosen up. I'm usually one to go for a clean line art, but I love to use a brush pen to do more free lines. It helps remind me to not be so uptight all the time :) You're right, the worst thing that can happen is that you learn from a mistake and re-draw it. It's easy to get caught up in every little inch of a drawing when doing line art. But once you take a step back, it's never that bad. Great video!! :D
Thank you for this! I've been considering picking up a Pentel brush pen (I'm currently using a Faber Castell and I'm not super in love with it.) and your video really helped give me an idea of what it's capable of.
So i totally just went to micheals with no intentions of finding it..AND BY GOLLY THEY HAD IT AND I DARN NEAR CRIED. I BOUGHT IT IMMDIATELY. CANT WAIT TO USE IT
+Hannah Wisdom yes they'll have it, but the price at micheals is insanely High comparing to getting it on Amazon, I recommend getting a 40% off coupon on their site :)
Hi I think it would be fun if u did a video on how to draw different types of skeletons. I really love your drawings an think that u are an amazing artist
Thanks for this tutorial ouo I'm going to buy this brush-pen and before this video I had no idea of how you use it. (sorry if I wrote something wrong but I'm not so good at English)
Thank you! These tips have definitely helped! But I have a question. I'm still relatively new to using brush pens and I've seen a lot of artists who have done pieces with the Pentel that could have easily been mistaken for being done with extremely fine-point pens. The amount of detail is almost absurd. Like I said, I still don't have a whole lot of practice, but do you have any suggestions for brush pens that might be easier to get really thin lines and details with, while still keeping a fair range of widths and organic look?
The one that gives me the most varied lines is the Pentel but you can definitely still get good line weight range with the Zebra fine or extra fine disposable brush pens. They're soft and pointy but also durable enough. I think I like them better when I'm not feeling like being stressed about how sensitive the Pocket brush pen is. The Pentel Pilot brush pen is also good for that--detail and fine lines but not as strand/hair like, more durable.
Amazing and very inspiring video! I'm not sure if I should get a brush pen or not, I have a Pentel Aquash (in light black, M), and I've been using it for a month now so I have a tiny bit of exp, do you think it's similar to this brush pen, does it work the same way as the Aquash?
+Chloe It's similar in it's type of tip. If you're familiar with handling their sort of brush ends, using the brush pen will be similar--the Aquash is thicker and more watery. It's more of an inking/filling brush than line art. You'll definitely have an upper hand in using the pen brush, which I think is easier.
+alexplaysmcpe It shouldn't make a difference--stroking towards your body rather than away is basically keeping control because the further you push your hand/arm away, the less control you have. Ideally. But it definitely could mean something different!
Hello, I have a problem with my pentel pocket brush pen that I have not been able to find any info about, so since you seem to use it a lot, maybe you can help me. The first few times I used it it worked great, but now it's like there's too much ink on the bristles. I can't make thin lines anymore, it bleeds and I can see some ink drops on the tip. I always use the same paper so that's not the problem. I tried storing it in a vertical position (I used to just leave it on my desk) but it's not helping. Have you ever heard of this problem, and do you have any ideas on how to solve it? Thanks!
+GamerBanana My pen used to leak out of the little side hole, but nothing like this. It could be the way your ink well was popped open. Try using a new tube of ink and carefully watch while you press down to open it. If this doesn't help, then it's the manufacturing of your pen and you should call/email pentel or whomever you purchased it from to get a new one.
+gweakles Thanks for your reply. I'll try to replace the ink cartridge and see if it helps. It could very well be the problem because I had some difficulties at first; no ink was coming out so I took the cartridge out and put it back in again, and maybe I pressed too hard. I hope it does work, because other than that I really like the pen!
+GamerBanana They're definitely a little finicky. Don't give up, it is a really good pen but if it isn't working for you make sure the company takes care of you!
awesome drawings!! my goal is to be a comic artist and I feel a pocket brush is really important for practice. are they expensive? and where can I buy one??
@@gweakles What ink do you fill the tubes with? The refill runs out very quickly and it is very expensive to buy the cartridges from Pentel. ////You have excellent handling of the line.
i have bin using this pen for 1 and a half year, and im not even close to your skill level. grate advice with the; stroke towards body, gonna try that.
+Samuthekid Don't worry about your style, that comes with time. Enjoy the journey, keep practicing, and find out what you want to get from art--what about it makes you the most happy!
me and this brush pen are not friends, doesn't matter what paper i use (I've even used the same one you used in this) it just bleeds everywhere and looks a mess =/

Your inking is so good!!!!So dark and the line variations are very clean and between thick and thin!!!I wish I can get that pen but it's so expensive
Le Ralle I bought it for 8 bucks :D
I've had the pentel brush pen for about a year now and found this very helpful!

Just got one of these pens and love it. Hoping to be able to achieve as fine strokes as you do at will in due course.

Omg I hope my Michaels has it they usually only carry like two copics and some random colored pencils
+Hannah Wisdom yes they'll have it, but the price at micheals is insanely High comparing to getting it on Amazon, I recommend getting a 40% off coupon on their site :)

I wonder how the 'pull towards yourself' tip would work for a left handed person? Anyone know if the tip works the same even if you're left handed?

awesome drawings!! my goal is to be a comic artist and I feel a pocket brush is really important for practice. are they expensive? and where can I buy one??
+Ella Langdon They're fairly pricey, but you can refill the ink wells and keep the pen for a long time. You can get them from Amazon or Jetpens :)
+gweakles oh okie. thank you!! X3

Amanda Mathea Pental and you can get it at your local art stores but it's really expensive like 20 dollars at blick
