- This version of Diamond Head's "The Prince" is from a March 1982 jam session early in Metallica's career. Recorded in Ron McGovney's parents garage the linup was James Hetfield vocals, Dave Mustaine -Guitar, Lars Ulrich Drums and Ron McGovney - Bass. Metallica would record the Prince as a b-side for "One" in 1988.
Ron's bass is so good on this
Wow! I can hear those bass!
Ron definitely sounded the best on this one.
Ron Mcgouney

Of course but the songs that later came wouldn't be the same.
@@spacecase7504 In other world, would be normal
Weird hearing Metallica without a rythym guitar.
This is why Ron is my 2nd favorite bassist of Metallica.
Never heard this Prince version in my life. Incredible! Bass was clear and thunderous! Unbelievable!!! A great vintage find!!! I'm blown away this existed and was recorded when I was 12. Insane!!!
so james is not playing guitar here? wow, 3 version of the prince, pre-kea era, mop-era, justice era
No in the really early days James wanted to be a singer only. They had a few rhythm players who didn't last long. Jeff Warner from Black N Blue was one of them. And Brad Parker from Odin was the other.
So as those were leaving james played rhythm guitar but didn't wanted to be the singer 😅
@@lautarothepro420 when the rhythm guitarists wasn't working he said screw it I'll be the best damn rhythm metals heard
Ron playing much tighter than Cliff with the classic clean bass tone, cliff added another style with distortion and solo lines... but I personally prefer this tightness and clean bass, its so damn solid
Mustaine ripped these solos.
I think Dave was born with a guitar in his hands.
Bleh.
It was weak
@Joe Yabuki what dave is a very good guitar player
James sounds ALMOST identical to sean harris
Awesome
Pretty much the original metallica line up
Lars james dave cliff? Or ron?
Ron
If you have the ear for it, you can hear the sharpness of Ron's pick attack. Same with Jason. Cliff and Rob don't have that (with the exception of "72 Seasons", where Rob uses a pick during the intro and choruses).
Def MUCH truer to the original Diamond Head version
James did a pretty solid Sean Harris impression back then, ngl
James not holding a guitar? What kind of parallel universe nonsense is this??
He didn't play for awhile. He wanted to just be a front man.
It’s not the same without James rhythm, but it’s always cool to hear old musical nuggets.
Leftest ıs ron-- middle james-rıght dave, drum lars
Is that James singing?
Yes
Dave always gets this weird praise from fans saying his lead playing was so amazing, and Kirk couldn't hold a candle to him, etc. I just don't hear it. I never have. All the live footage I've seen, and early stuff with Dave it's just a screeching mess. He's maybe a notch above Kerry King.
Yeah me too. Never liked the guitar tone he has either except in Symphony of destruction.
@@dandan71 Yeah, very high gain. No lows or mids. Just sounds really stock and uninteresting.
@@mattdad8429 His solos are nothing special, but his rhythm playing is incredible.
Hammett smokes Mustaine in those old solos.
Well he made all the solos on kill em all and a lot of riffs even on other albums he made a riff for leper messiah and the main riff to ride the lightning so he is good in my opinion leagues above Kirk and he is a very good rhythm player.
Kirk’s solo on this song was way better than Dave’s
Mustaine was so terrible.
Hes not
but he got better
It's so bad and old yuck
I'm just going to go ahead and say you probably think Slipknot is old-school metal
