Yes, when you consider the price and what we generally need for amateur radio.
12 volts and so far has survived a rough and tumble life. It also don't mind smearing it in stickers.
@n2yqt in the auto world more stickers equals more horsepower, so it is safe to assume more stickers equals more output power 🌮🌮🌮
I just cracked the digitizer on my iPad during a POTA activation. I know it will take me more than $80 in parts and time replacing it. This is definitely purpose task device that is easily replaceable.
My friend and I bought these specifically for ham, but I think it makes a perfectly usable general purpose laptop. We easily replaced the cellular modem with an M.2 SSD drive, and it was good to go. Neither of us felt the need to do remove bloatware. It just doesn't seem to be a problem. I love this thing for what it is, a light and handy laptop. Enjoy.
Awesome tutorial. Even a not so smrt guy like me got the debloat software going!
Thank you Mike.
I’ve had one for quite a while. Works for everything I’ve ever needed. Slow and steady wins the race. Haha
Slow and steady is a good way of looking at it. It is an $80 laptop and it will not break the bank if it gets damaged in the field, which is a risk we take everytime we haul all of our gear out to have fun. Thank you for watching.
I got mine last year for $60. I use it for portable 3d modeling.
Just got my Evolve iii - wow! I removed everything and truly zips right along!! Cannot wait to get it out to the park!
I was impressed with the performance with it after running the reboot tools. I am going to add an additional SD Card to it for more memory.
@@GraymanPOTA That’s been another good one too. Going to add a decent sized one to my Amazon basket.
Thanks for the great info. But I have already installed some programs on my computer. Should I run this debloat program? Thanks
Good question, you can still run it but it might cause problems with some of the apps that you have installed if there are any dependencies to anything turned off. I think the warning was more around Windows profiles that are created.
Just got one to go with my Ancient Acer netbook that I’ve been using. Will try this before I haul off and install Linux!
I was impressed on how it responded after I ran the debloating tools. If you are already a Linux user, I would suggest that you stay with what you already know. I was trying to keep is simple for the masses, but I will am planning on making a video on installing Linux on it. Thank you for watching.
Any program I would need to start my portable ham station because I have an old laptop laying around and would like to use it. And what would I be able to use it with or what can I do with it?
Is it the best? Before seeing the video, I'm just going to go with NO. Is it the cheapest Windows laptop? Quite possibly yes. Can't wait to see the video to see if I'm right! :D
I like Chris Titus Tech's debloat tool but very similar stuff. If everyone who owns a Windows computer would use something like this when they first get a computer (or have someone do it for them) their computers would run much better, whether it's a low powered machine or a beefy machine.
There are several good tools out there, but you are absolutely right about getting the junk off of the computer. Thank you for watching. 🌮🌮🌮🌮
Great video. In future videos, can you lower the volume of the music? Thanks and 73.
Better still cut it out altogether!@@barryzoll9772
I bought the famous one that TO did a few videos on. I reloaded Win 10 because I use it to maintain DMR radios. I used the generic ISO for this. Can this series help that install as well? Thanks!
You can run it, there is a lot of unnecessary processes that are enabled by Windows.
I ended up buying up someting more reliable and powerful but powered by USB C, which I'm ok with.
Im in VK so it wasn't worth importing here anyway.
Good info and debloating is necessary on any Windows machine, whether fast or not.👍🤠 73
I am sure it would cost more to get the Jankopotomus imported in than it is worth. It does fit the bill here based on cost alone, if it gets broken going out in the field.
@GraymanPOTA yes, very good point.👍
Just out of curiosity why did you chose to leave windows on it and not install Linux like a lot of others do? I see the benefits of both and just wanted to hear why others choose what they do. I have a Lenovo student laptop that I picked up because it has usbc charging and I think 8gb of RAM. I choose to use Linux Mint and use KM4ACK 73 Linux.
Good question. I could use either OS, but for the purpose of the video I stayed with Windows to keep the complexity down. Thank you for watching.
It's ok. I also have the asus student edition. It's more rugged
Good deal, I am sure there are others that fill the need. Is it able to be changed with 12vdc? Thank you for watching.
@@GraymanPOTA not sure if it does 12 V. It uses a USB-C though, so that’s good.
The fastest way to remove bloatware is a Linux boot drive
No arguments from me, but I am trying to keep it simple for now. I am sure you might see a Linux conversation in a future video. Thank you for watching. 🌮🌮🌮
Please speak louder on your next video of turn the volume up. My volume is all the way up and I can hardly hear you.
I used to have that problem too until I found hearing aids. 🌮🌮🌮
Never will I subscribe to a channel which plays music over their presenter's voice. Please, turn off the background music! It is beyond me why UA-cam content creators think playing background music over the presenter's voice is somehow enhancing their videos. We came to hear you; we are not here to fight background music to hear you. The background music quickly becomes extremely annoying, distracting, and intrusive. Many folks have hearing difficulties, thus while concentrating on your dialog we must also concentrate on tuning out the music; it is very frustrating. Your background music ruins an otherwise exceptionally good presentation.
@@ricdonato4328 thanks for watching.
