Never seen any of the original chains have damage whatsoever unless they were grinding the guides to metal or the tensioners completely failed and it was wearing into the cover. I wouldn't bother replacing it unless you're using a high dollar OEM equivalent, or it'll likely be a downgrade.
13:03 hopefully you pulled those old globs of "fixing to fall" RTV chunks at the areas where the heads meet the block by the water pump...I've seen so many of those chunks clog oil pump pick up screens in 4.6 and 5.4....for some reason everyone leaves the old factory RTV chunks.... Great video....
Didn’t have to remove the motor mount bolt for the valve covers on mine, just removed the coil packs and had just enough room to squeeze them out the front of the engine bay
Oddly enough my 2000 Town car I didn't have to either on the passenger side but my wifes 2001 for the life of me could not get the valve cover off on the PS kept hitting the AC/Heat box. Was pretty frustrated and went and took the bolt out underneath right by the AC compressor for the motor mount and the one bolt on top that you can see when looking down past the manifold. Lifted the engine up a couple inches and came off without any fuss. So I wonder if there is that much variance with where they place the engine in the car of if the one years difference was the reason.
hey man finally did this job today on my 2011 P7B but ran into an issue. I've asked about 100 people online and everyone is telling me something different, so I thought I'd ask the expert directly. I replaced the chains, guides and tensioners with Melling parts. The driver's side chain lined up perfectly dot-to-dot. The passenger side is off 1 link. Would you suggest I remove the cam holding tool & turn the cam sprocket with a wrench slightly to get the chain to line up? Some are telling me this is perfectly fine to do, and others are saying not to do it - and if it's not lining up then something is wrong. I would really appreciate your input. Thank you sir
wow what a great tutorial - thank you. I'm about to do this job for the first time on my 2011 P7B and rotating the engine for top dead center is the only thing I've never dealt with. you rotate it by using the crank pulley bolt right? and about how many times do you usually have to rotate it to get everything lined up?
@@DrArtshotrodrehab thanks for the response. I noticed most videos were very adamant about not rotating the cams at all while they're locked & the chains are off. but then some videos needed to rotate them slightly to get the master links to line up on the new chains?
Hello brother. Im in this job i take my heads to machine shop . But now im confused do i have to put the mark only in the 11 position . Or it may have other marks like the valve in specific cylinder is colsed / open. What marks to focus on other than the dot
Piston at top dead on #1 cylinder and both valves closed on the #1 And time the opposite cylinder head according to the timing marks with the cam gear attached
Don’t know much about those engines but I learned something here!!👍👍👍

you made it look easy, you don't have rusty valve cover bolts that no socket fits anymore.

If the dots on the crank are all lined up both links and the spot in the crank are perfect. Yes, it’s OK to move the cam slightly for one tooth.
dont you just love them 4.6 lol they good engines all but them timing chains
Mr Art. Is this the same process (timing chain kit and valve covers) for an 07 Lincoln Town car ?
Thank you for your time and help.
Yes

Yes crank bolt
And usually less than one rotation

@@azizshavershian2065 well ok rotating the cams with the chain disconnected
Less is better
@@DrArtshotrodrehab last question lol - after you removed the passenger motor mount - where did you jack the engine up from?
@@azizshavershian2065 trans bellhouseing
Vice grips on the cam gave me a legit heart attack 😮
U don't have to jack it up the other videos show diff check them out😊
Is it the chain itself that goes slack, or the tensioners failing?
Tensioner fail
They are driven by oil pressure and the seals fail
